Hi all, I've had my 5X since launch and I just wanted to ask.. does anyone else's handsets battery life really suck?

It started off OK but not great (fine, i can deal with that) but now mine goes from a full charge to under 15% by about 13/14:00 - I use it for music in the car for about 45 minutes in the morning and then leave it alone for the most part as I use my work computer for anything else I need to do.

Sometimes, the battery percentage used doesn't add up either - there will be about 20% left on the phone and the battery report thingy only accounts for about 40%.

Any help much appreciated, if this continues I'm just going to contact carphone warehouse.

Cheers,

Jack

I will say that my N5x only gets about one days use... After about 14-16 hours, it's at around 10-15% and I'm charging again. I will admit that I'm a pretty heavy user and do use it quite a bit tho.

Maybe you have a bad battery? My battery life is decent. I don't make lots of cell calls but I do check email, skype, make magic jack calls, use ok google, and the like, and I recharge about every 3 days or so.

Your usage is pretty similar to mine if not slightly less and my battery lasts till about 10pm before battery saver mode kicks in (I take off charge around 8am every morning). You may have either a bad battery or an app is causing massive battery drain. Try a factory reset and reinstall each app to see how it responds? Otherwise id def get it looked at

Thanks for the help guys, I think I will get this checked out. I've attached a couple of screenshots from a few minutes ago for your delectation.

I had the same issue with my new Nexus 5x, I did a factory reset and the issue went away. I was getting 2 days from my phone without charging. However 2 weeks on from the factory reset and the issue has reared it's ugly head again over the last few days.

It's really starting to tick me off, I can't factory reset every 2 weeks as it means starting again. Can anyone help?

2 days on this phone? Wow. That's incredible, even for light usage.

I think 1 full day on the phone is normal for moderate use.

With the 5X, I think users need to seriously consider that not all of their apps are optimized for 6.0.1 yet so performance may not be at it's potential peak. Adding an app or letting it auto update may result in unexpected battery impacts if the app/update isn't coded correctly.

I understand that apps will drain the battery during the day but the phone should enter the doze overnight. I could clearly see doze kicking in last week as I would lose 5% max at night. Last night the phone lost 35%, I've changed no setting from last week and I don't even think I've even downloaded any new apps since last week.

I'm thinking that Nexus 5 was a fluke and Nexus 5x is ****. I don't want any mircles in terms of battery life but I want to at least know that it I go out during the day I can use my phone and have enough battery to last until the night.

If I switch my phone into safe mode (disabling all third party apps) it enters doze mode and lasts forever. WTF Google!!!

Exactly the same here with timing, was that around the time of the security patch? The only app i've added recently is a gym one called stronglifts 5x5 which is uber basic.

Before doing a factory reset, just try rebooting the phone and see if that helps. Also recommend GSAM Battery Monitor as a better app for tracking power use.

My battery life is typically 2 days with light use (mostly sitting on a desk and a handful of hours Chromecasting Netflix). One day, it drained down in a handful of hours. Did a power off/power on cycle and the problem went away.

I won't say it sucks, but it's not super impressive. Definitely better than my old Verizon Galaxy Nexus (which many times would not even last the whole day) but not as good as my old Moto X 2013, which would always last the whole day.

My Nexus 5x will usually last the whole day with normal use, but then it will be pretty low by the end of the day (my Moto X would be down to about 30% or 40% at the end of the day, while my Nexus 5x is usually down to 15% or 20% by the end of the day). If I get deep into a game of Candy Crush, the battery drains considerably faster and won't last past the late afternoon.

That said, the fast charging is super fast, and I will sometimes use that to get me through heavier-use days.

If Safe Mode performance is fine, then it is possible that one of the 3rd party apps is not in compliance with Doze Mode.

I agree, the Moto X 2013 was/is an excellent battery miser. It helped that the screen was much smaller, that Moto Display and AMOLED are like the most awesome combination for battery savings, and that the processor is two generations older (and slower).

A power cycle refreshes everything and can stop a runaway app/process (which is likely what caused your steady battery drain that one day).

My guess is that unless that runaway app is updated, you'll see that quick battery drain again once the app launches or the combination of apps working at the same time recurs.

Cheers for the comments all and - eaccentsac - i've done quite a few power cycles and it hasn't fixed things.

I'll try the suggested battery monitor app - see if it sheds some light on things.

I just checked my phone and at 7am (3 more hours) it will be 4 days since I charged. The phone is reporting 42% and approx 3 days left. I would guess that people who are having battery drain problems either have a bad battery or an app that isn't playing nicely with marshmallow.

If your battery drain is normal in safe mode then you have to figure out what app is causing the problem. It's too bad there's no "startup group items" that you can simply uncheck to prevent apps from starting at boot, but unfortunately this isn't windows.

Not like it's any help but my has now returned to 5% overnight (last night). I did a few things the day before -
- Fully charged my phone
- Uninstalled All4 & Amazon Music Apps
- Reinstalled All4 & Amazon Music Apps
- Rebooted my phone
- Cleared the cache
- Carphone Warehouse ran diagnosic check on the phone (and found nothing).

Not sure what one of these actions caused the phone to go back to non-draining battery mode but it's now at 91% after 12 hours (9 hours overnight). In my opinion I think it was the action of uninstalling & reinstalling them apps (both of those apps I used the day before it started draining so perhaps had something to do with that).

Perhaps it just goes into battery draining mode every so often until doze decides it's going to work again.

Ah, Rich, I have recently installed All4!

It's not registering on GSam though.Going to get rid of All4 and see if it makes a difference, and maybe amazon music too.. I'll report back.

Just seen this post from last year -(sorry can't post full URL) but it's a Nexus5x forum post so same as this one but after the Nexus-5x/ it has the following - /614006-crazy-battery-drain-suddenly.html
It appears All 4 app is the cause of the battery drain, it doesn't show up on battery usage either. I've also got a feeling that if you install All4 it doesn't drain the battery, it's only when you use the app, after usage it starts draining the battery.

In the past I've removed the app but it still drains the battery, it's only when I reinstall the app (but I don't load it back up) that it stops draining the battery. I've sent an email to All4 developers, hopefully update happens as I use All4 with Chromecast quite a lot, so have to go through the uninstall/reinstall process everytime I use it from now on.

I'll second that All4 is causing some serious battery drain. Uninstalled after my battery life took a dive after their last update and after reading here that it might be the culprit. Suffice to say I'm now back to trickling battery away and estimated times of over a full day.
