I can't believe that they are using Gorilla glass 3.
Thats not how it works.
Gorilla Glass iterations aren't typically "improvements", they are totally separate products with different levels of scratch resistance vs shatter resistance among other qualities. If its scratch resistant youre increasing brittleness and it will shatter more easily, and if its shatter resistant you increase malleability but that makes more prone to scratching.
As far as returns go;
Literally the only thing about the Galaxy S8 that i find more appealing than the G6 is the use of AMOLED, and only because of how much it improves the always on display. But i knew that going in and its not enough to make me switch.
The G6:
- has an awesome HDR10 / Dolby vision display
- very slim bezzles, gorgeous design
- Isn't awkward as hell to case or hold because of a curved screen gimmick
- can survive a run in the rain or a fall in the pool
- has incredible battery life
- has a camera equal to the S7 (learn to settings) PLUS an amazing wide angle camera
- omg the bundles. 43inch LGTV + Google home + half price off G6 + buying out my old phone? Thanks verizon/LG!
S8...
- Always on Display is much more vibrant than LG's cuz amoled
- Very nice customization on the software buttons.
- Works with Dream VR.
- has 64GB of storage. This isn't really a concern for me since I used ADB to map my SDcard as internal on the G6 but for standard consumers the extra storage on the S8 is a nice boost.
- Has Bluetooth 5. Means not much yet, but it will mean more by Christmas.
- Runs its "QuadHD" screen in 1080p by default over battery concerns...
- At least it isn't "quite" as curved as the S7 edge
- Battery life is a big unknown, but having a bigger screen than the s7 edge which was notorious for poor battery life over time with a 20% smaller battery is very concerning. Not sure an 835 can fix this.
- Has basically the same camera as S7
- No Wide Angle lens for main camera
- Has new dedicated button. For Camera!? No. Bixby.

Basically a button you mostly want to avoid pressing.
- Has an Iris scanner, a nearly unusable fingerprint scanner and facial recognition lock that can be fooled with a photo. Having had an iris scanner on my previous device, I would take a fingerprint scanner i can use (G6) anyday over an iris scanner, except days when i need to wear gloves.
Edit: For Throttle.
