Anyone thinking about returning this phone and going to the S8?

Have you tried taking a .DNG?
Because it makes it easier to examine sensor performance as it's the raw file the sensor captures without extra post-processing.
There were cases of good camera sensors smeared by subpar software.
I made the call to do it today. The deciding factors were
Gigabit LTE capable
Blue Tooth 5.0
I normally keep a phone for a few years. Before the G6 I was using a Nexus 6. So those 2 things are big to me.

Of course I have. I'm not throwing away 4-5 years with LG phones without doing my due diligence.

So I guess it would do LG favors if they went with an IMX378 and better post-processing algorithms, right?
I think most users here are much more advanced than the average user. Most people don't want to use manual controls or shoot in raw. They want to pull the phone out and snap and that's it. I have gotten great stills with the G6 but also have a lot of terrible pics with people in the shot.
LG has work to do if they ever want to earn my business back.
Why a manufacturer wouldn't want to use the latest camera tech they could get their hands on is beyond me. The sensor in the S7 cost $13.70. The S6 was $18. So we aren't talking about expensive parts. They need to stop cheaping out.

That is pretty bad. The worst is those unboxing videos where they spent 75 percent of the time opening the box.

I don't watch any of those videos. I'm sure they serve a purpose, but I judge things for myself.

Yes best judge is the consumer itself.. People give reviews after having the phone and using it in daily life... But I would judge a phone really atleast 1 month of use...
If g6 doesn't impress me, there are many other models to go with... Maybe try out the s8...thou G6 is getting great reviews

Every phone is going to have it's quirks. For some people, having a camera that does well in low light is important. Some need a good front facing camera for selfies and video chatting. Any back camera on any smartphone is going to suffer in low light. The only other phone I was considering over this one was the Pixel, but I love the theming on this phone. I knew the camera wasn't going to be as good as the Pixel. But not by much. That was the only thing I felt was better. Just from reading and watching the reviews. I feel like I would've gotten bored using stock Android and would be sucked back into rooting and custom Roms. I also love the little software features that LG throws in. Like double tap to wake and being able to switch around the nav buttons.
once the fascination with the bezeless display on the G6 wears off after a couple days, its a very mediocre phone. The camera is stuck in 2015, the battery life is not great, the phone gets hot, google assistant takes forever to load up when toggled, fast charge is painfully slow, the lcd screen isn't anything to marvel at, the 32gb of storage is less than optimal and the SD821 while still pretty good, will show its age towards the middle of 2017. If you are like most people who keep their phone more than a year that's gonna suck. I sent my g6 back after 3 days and have an s8 on preorder.
I beg to differ on everything except the storage and maybe the camera. My phone doesn't get hot at all, Google assistant loads the same as it does on the other phones I've used it on, the 820 is still running strong as it has been for the past year in plenty of phones, the dpi of the display is rather high making for a very crisp display, fast charge seems to charge just as fast as my Axon 7 did, as for battery please refer to the image below.
The thing I'm really struggling to understand is all the people saying "I returned the phone for something else because it sucked". If that's the case then why are those people still posting in that phones forums? I don't go back and continue to post in any of the phones I've sold so unless someone's trying to convince themselves they made the right choice, why come back to such a horrible phones forums?

Your experiences may vary, but most of us come back to warn potential buyers of the issues that we have had. Im not the first to claim the charging is slow. maybe its a known issue with certain devices being defective, but its more than just 1 or 2 people. From your screenshot, it doesn't really prove much. You have drained 13% in roughly an hour of screen time but you seem to be on wifi which is way less of a strain on the device. When I was home all day on wifi I was getting 5 hours SOT just fine. But once im out and about with auto brightness constantly changing to adjust to the conditions and running on LTE I wasn't sniffing 4 hours. No one is on this board trying to convince anyone, we have owned the phone and a question was asked. We have the right to answer it honestly, and if those issues we have deter other from buying it then that's the intent.

Based on the reviews and general consensus on this and other forums I'd say the very small minority are having issues with anything but the camera. As far as the draining goes outside of wifi and with auto brightness, this phones 3300 battery performs the same as any other phone with comparable battery size. Do you really believe the S8's 3000 battery is going to somehow be substantially higher? Yes its a new chip that "should" be more efficient but in return they offered a smaller battery. Makes no sense to complain about something that is on par with every other phone on the market and then go to a smaller battery.
Maybe not you, but I see the same few on this section daily repeating themselves over and over again about why they hated the phone and returned it. I just dont understand coming back on a daily basis unless you're regretting you're decision. Like I said though, not you.
I think the phone is great and pleasantly surprised me how much I enjoy it. I have 2 days to decide. The only factor right now is the camera. It's my main camera for taking pics of the kids. It's really driving me crazy. Minus that the phone has been a home run for me.
The camera definitely is a huge issue, I dont think anyone can honestly deny that. I personally dont care because I very rarely ever take a low light picture. So far any images with motion have turned out fine for me because they tend to be in good lighting. Thats one area where the S8 is going to stand apart from the G6 because we know what that cameras capable of since they didnt really change it and are sticking with last years tech. Something people seem to be complaining about with the G6 oddly enough.
I don't know why people keep saying the s8 has the same camera tech as the s7. They are completely different sensors and well as new software optimizations to enhance the overall experience.
The s8 uses the new sony imx333 sensor. the s7 used what I read was a sony imx220 or something close to that.
