Anyone waiting for the Nexus 9 "Sand" color?

I've returned THREE Nexus 9's for poor build quality. I can live with button-gate and the spongy back, but the light bleed is worse than any tablet I've ever owned, and I've owned some really poor tablets.

So I've decided to wait for Sand in the hopes that HTC and Google will have their build quality issues under control by that time. I've checked this forum many times and hope someone will give us a date soon. I gave my Nexus 7 away thinking quality would be as good as it always has been with a Nexus product and now I'm without a tablet at the moment. I'm seriously thinking of other tablets if they don't hurry. The Nvidia Shield is top of the list, but battery life is rubbish.

I really love Android in general. I have a chromebook pixel and a 2011 Macbook Pro running Windows 7 ( I've grown to hate the Mac OS over the years ). But a Lollipop tablet with a bluetooth keyboard and a mouse would be amazing.. Android workstation to replace the Chrome OS.. If I could run pure Android,,, ie Lollipop on my pixel, that would probably be the best, but I obviously don't see that happening very quickly.. Some Android apps will run on Chrome OS, but it's kind of lame..
Thx,
Tim

I am waiting for the beige.

My N7 died on me (you can't imagine how much I used it...

Some Staples stores are selling the N7 2013 at half price, only $128 for the 32 model (see the N7 forum). I think you'd be better off with that than the overpriced lemon N9, even it it came in purple or shocking pink.

To say lemon would be jumping to conclusions as that's not a given. The given is that this thing is overpriced and nobody can argue that successfully.

My Nexus 9 is definitely not a lemon. I've had it since Christmas and I can't find anything wrong with it. I was quite willing to buy it for its asking price, so for me it was certainly not overpriced.

Whether you are willing to pay the asking price or not it still is not at the same quality level material and workmanship wise as other tablets in that price range. To me it has a cheaper feel, to you it might not, but I bet it costs a lot less to make than other tablets in that class as the materials are a good deal inferior.

I'm sure the majority of the people on here would agree with me.

What materials do you feel are higher quality than polycarbonate?

Maybe anodized aluminum or some other metal back? I don't know, all I'm saying is that the n9 feels really run of the mill basic and cheap IMO.

I'd almost like to say it was the flex in the back and the really simple "regular" build that it has that made me feel this way.

My beer and coke cans are made out of aluminum and I doubt if the choice was made because of the high quality feel. I'll bet the choice was made because aluminum was the cheapest container material possible.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree about what we feel is basic and cheap.

Hey at least they don't have beer in cartons. Really you should buy. Bottles instead. ;)

Seriously though you are right ones perception of what constitutes a quality material to build a tablet is based on opinion and preference. I agree to disagree. I still say however, taking the n7 2013 for example, it is made out of plastic too but just (to me at least) seems to be a little better quality (maybe better put together or something), I don't know.

I do know I am Not buying an n9 and that's for sure.

Re: Anyone waiting for the Nexus 9 "Sand" color?

I own both the Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 9. I like the quality and feel of both and for me the edge goes to my Nexus 9. I'd absolutely buy my Nexus 9 again.

BTW, there is a huge difference between quality polycarbonate and cheap plastic.

WHERE IS MY SAND N9????!!!11

How is it possible that it hasn't been released yet? I'm dying over here, lol . . .

I am completely in the same boat. Has anyone heard anything about the sand color? My patience is running out.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched the idea to make a sand colored model after the most likely poor sales numbers.

I really don't know why I'm waiting for sand. It will be in a Poetic case from day one. My deal is waiting long enough to avoid the first run. Just wondering if Best Buy or Amazon has the newest / latest builds. I'm going with white for a change.

I wasn't buying the N9 until the "sand" version was available. I gave up and bought the "white" version and I'm satisfied. I highly doubt the "sand" color will ever be available. All of the other versions including the LTE models have been released, not to mention both the magic cover and folio keyboard but no "sand" option yet. It isn't happening.

And like I said, if it is not released it probably will be based on the poor sales #'s.
Let's face it this wasn't exactly the most well received tablet in the history of tablets. On top of that the $ they are asking for it is ludicrous. Especially after selling the n7 2013 for $200

Sand is now available. It happened Monday, January 12 in the late evening. Very exciting . . . but I sincerely hope the light bleed is now gone. I'd be devastated if I had to return a fourth one. I'd be so distraught, I might even turn to Apple or Microsoft. I'll update whether it has the giant light bleed flaw still.
