Apple is at it again. WTF

There is some truth to this but everyone forgets that Apple completely ripped off Palm to develop the iPhone. It's a good thing for Apple that Palm never had enough money to defend their intellectual property.

Thank God other companies don't behave like Apple or there would only be one brand of everything!

**clears throat** I sure as hell didn't forget. My first "touch" anything was Palm. Back in '03 I was rocking a Samsung SPH-i500 and going forward the Treo 600 > 650 > 700p > 755p. Don't get me started on the Tungsten line...E, E|2 & T|5.

Yea...I'm that old! ;) and appalled Apple considers themselves to be so innovative. Somewhere along the line they forgot their humble beginnings.

I hope that Judge Koh realizes that all Apple is trying to do is stop the Galaxy S III because Apple knows its going to be an iPhone killer. I mean look at the sales of the two previous generations of Samsung's Galaxy S line and then you know why Apple is doing this. The "patents" the GS3 suposedly infringes on are very minor and I dont think should warant a ban. Apple is very much afraid the Galaxy S III will hinder iPhone 5 sales because Apple knows its a better phone.

Okay, so this hearing is to determine whether or not the S3 implements the same features as the Nexus, and should be included in any ban restrictions pertaining to the Nexus. It doesn't mean either of the two would be banned by the 21st, does it? (though I guess a temporary injunction would certainly delay the launch.

Just read the linked article and I am waiting for the sprint release of this phone on the 21st to see if I exchange it for my lte evo that I already bought. I am a silver reward BB member so I get 45 days instead of 30 days to exchange from the 5/24 purchase date. If this phone gets delayed beyond the 45 days I may write off Samsung for ever. I love their phones but, there are many ways to skin a cat in the way of developing an iPhone comparable killer phone with the same or better features. Samsung knows what issues will come up when phone in development and how can they proceed and eventually release it knowing may face legal action against them?? And how come Apple did not block the European market release, are the U.S. phones that much different? The European market I believe is larger than than our when you add Asian and Eastern markets to it.

If I made some wrong assumptions, please correct me.

...and what did you think back in 07 when they introduced the iphone? that apple copied palm?

i think folks should watch the original iphone keynote and think back to the 'smart' phones they were using at that time to compare. steve even states they patented the hell out of it.

lets also switch it around.... had android been first to market what would ppl think if apple then released the iphone and copied gesture based controls, app store, etc etc? would it then be OK for google to defend their 'innovations' via patent infringement claims, temp restraining orders, etc?

I watched the original iPhone keynote and I laughed. Everything of value that the iPhone brought to smartphones was already there from Nokia and Palm, just packaged differently. Nokia in particular had both smartphones with computer capabilities (check Nokia Communicator), and touch-screen devices with 4" screen and skype, browsing, multimedia (Nokia Internat Tablet, N800 etc.). What was fairly new was the capacitive touch screen, which wasn't unheard of even before Apple and was a natural development of mobile device design, not something revolutionary.

"An iPod, a browser, and a phone in one device"... Pfffft!

I did buy the iPhone in '07 and yes I felt there were many similarities to Palm. Who didn't?

This is troubling. I'm sure I won't be the only pissed off S.O.B if my phone gets delayed because of these patent disputes. I'm annoyed at apple and even Samsung. I don't know if Samsung infringed on these patents (I hope they didn't) but if they did knowing how sue happy apple is and how they are trying to destroy android and competition they only shot themselves in the foot. We can all hope that this will get worked out swiftly and without delays.

So many people here are hoping a man 'rots in hell' just because the company he ran, before dying a nasty death, MIGHT temporarily block the sale of a new cellphone? Thats an acceptable thing to say, but calling someone an idiot is absolutely off limits?

Annnyway, wasn't trying to debate patent laws, or their morality. Fact is, the laws are there, and every company in business will use them to protect their intellectual property AND profits. Just out of curiosity, how many times has Apple won/lost patent cases?

Nicely said.

I just hope samsung returns this favor when apple tries to put out a LTE phone. Samsung owns alot of LTE patents.

Be careful with the BB Silver Membership assumption.

I was told that Silver gets us the right to "return" for 30 days not 45 on cell phones but after 14 days you loose any chance of getting your upgrade reversed by Sprint so you can't actually swap out to another phone.

Fortunately my EVO LTE's final death was on day 14 and I returned it and they reset my upgrade...otherwise, my assumption was exactly as what was stated a few posts back in this thread.

For all these years, the iPhone has been dominant in the smartphone market. However, the Galaxy SIII merely marks the starting point of Apple's downfall, triggering Apple to fight back. Last year, Apple didn't really make a big jump from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 4s. Combine that with the new android smart phones being released this year, and as a result, Apple is suffering a downfall in the smart phone market this year. If Apple wants to keep their lead, they're really gonna have to make a iPhone 5 that won't disappoint or else they will lose their business to android.

Thanks for the info. The BB mobile mgr told me I have 14 days from activating to return for refund and reset upgrade. As silver member, I get 45 instead of 30 days to swap only for another phone. I will double check w him when I go to pick up my preordered GS3.

You are both right. If you want to do a straight return and re-set your upgrade you only have 14 days, but if you are wanting to do an exchange you have 45 as a silver member. As I understand it you can keep exchanging untill you are happy.

Not sent from my Pre-Ordered Galaxy S3 as it is currently busy being taken to court by Apple, whose motto must now be "Don't innovate, just litigate"!

But if you get the phone from Sprint you can only exchange once.
