For all these years, the iPhone has been dominant in the smartphone market. However, the Galaxy SIII merely marks the starting point of Apple's downfall, triggering Apple to fight back. Last year, Apple didn't really make a big jump from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 4s. Combine that with the new android smart phones being released this year, and as a result, Apple is suffering a downfall in the smart phone market this year. If Apple wants to keep their lead, they're really gonna have to make a iPhone 5 that won't disappoint or else they will lose their business to android.

How is the SIII the beginning of Apple's downfall? The Evo was a better device than the iphone. My Samsung SII is a better device. There are others as well. But that didn't stop Apple from selling 35 million iphone4's last quarter. How many did Samsung SII sell? A "better" phone apparently hasn't been able to outsell iphone and as I said earlier, there are plenty of better devices out there. The reality remains that no single device can outsell the iphone one on one. The Evo LTE won't and the SIII won't either. This year old iphone4 will dominate sales again this quarter and then probably smash its existing records when the next iphone is revealed.
See me when a single device eclipses 35 million in sales for a quarter and doesn't begin with "i". Then we can have a reasoned discussion about iphone's downfall.
By the way, I'll be adding to SIII's sales numbers when it's released.

I agree with you but the reason its the way it is is because the MAJORITY of people out there think that Apple is the best smartphone money can buy! Because of marketing and hype! Majority of people don't care and aren't as informed about the latest and greatest technology as we are here! Like the majority who also think that Beats headsets and Bose systems are THE BEST there is in audio. There will come a day when these people wake up and realize that what they have ISN'T the best they have bought with their hard earned money!

I have a friend and a nephew who are die-hard iPhone fans. They love everything about Apple and you can't tell them otherwise. I do try to have a normal discussion about why they think Apple is "the best" out there but I never get a solid response. All I get is "it just is" or "because they do it better" as a response. I ask them to clarify what "it" is exactly and get a blank stare.

Apple is just pissed that Samsung is kicking their ass inn technology and sales. They are desperate to stay alive. It makes me laugh that the only 2 things they market, siri and retina, neither of which are apple products. Siri was bought out by apple, then they terminated Android development. LG developed the retina display for apple... Wonder how long it'll be till IPhones have quad cores? 4 years?

Lets not forget that Sammy has quite the patent portfolio themselves. I think I read that they have 12% of all LTE patents and Apple has almost none. We'll see what happens when the IPhone supports LTE in the future.

Samsung with have to license the required technology to Apple under FRAND.

Yeah, lets see Samsung be the recipient of a full blown antitrust investigation and lawsuits for abusing standard essential patents. Because that's already started, and if they attempt to wield ANY SEPs in the future, they will find that regulators are not a forgiving bunch.

Apple gets most of their micro chips from Samsung. Is it smart for apple to be suing there supplier? I've laugh if they cut them off and every other company boycotts supplying them chips. Then apple either goes back 2 steps to make their own, or collapses

Separate divisions & Samsung gets paid wayyyy too much to be able to just drop them. They'd probably take a huge hit in their business.

Here's what would happen if they tried:

1) Apple would sue them into oblivion for breach of contract.

2) Shareholders would sue them into oblivion for acting against the interests of shareholders and the company.

And

3) Many of samsungs divisions would record record drops in revenue and profit.

Samsung is not stupid. Apple can replace their parts easily; Samsung cannot replace apple's multi-billion dollar annual contracts without some difficulty, if at all.
