Apple / Samsung Court Ruling

We can argue and speculate all we want about what and where Android would be without Apple. However, I for one believe and said it the first time I used an iPhone that it was a game changer and that everyone else would step up their games to compete which is what has happened.

However, the biggest change that the iPhone introduced was the apps store. That was the day smart phones became more then just phones with calendars and email.

The iPhone didn't launch with an app store.

And the iPhone wasn't the first to have an app store.

But some Apple hater here will probably claim that "Apple claims to have had the first app store".

Or Apple stole the idea to have an app store.

Getjar had "app store" before Apple. Apple threatened them lol

IIRC, Apple trademarked the term "App Store". Did GetJar call theirs an "App Store" before Apple launched the iOS App Store?

yes. Like years before Apple. Getjar even posted on their website the letter they got from Apple, and their response was they had an app store long before Apple and they weren't going to change the name.
Just went to their website, and they still call it the Getjar android app store lol. So I guess they stood their ground.

They were denied enforcement of the term since app is just a shortened version of application. They went after Amazon hard and fast, and were told that since no one would possibly confuse the two that they had no case.

May Samsung will become another HTC. It's such a disaster!!!

It's not really that big a disaster. It's a lot of money which most likely will be reduced to pennies on the dollar in appeals. You also have to consider that to Samsung phones are just a side project. Samsung makes the bulk of their money on TVs and AV equipment.

Go take a look at android pre-iPhone and try and tell us again that it wouldn't be much time before the smartphone hit where apple pushed it to.

I have, and I still say it was all evolving along just fine with or without apple. They came in early and have evolved with the times as much as Android. they may have diverted people to some things but what would be different without them? We might still have a few hard buttons like the Kindle and Nexus tablets perhaps, we might have programs that download from websites rather that app stores, but beyond that (and those are iffy as well) time marches on.

We would still have small, resistive touchscreens, keyboards, and text driven UIs.

In that case, it was over the name- not the concept of an app store.

Look at android pre iPhone. It was clearly a cousin of blackberry. Also look at the phones that came out at the same time or immediately following the iPhone. The majority had resistive touchscreens and awful UIs based heavily around text.

You keep saying the same thing. But you still don't have enough respect for other inventors or imagination to realize that if Apple didn't come out with this phone then someone else would have by now. Or was Jobs an alien, maybe God?
No and no. So why couldn't another human being out of 6 billion people add a multi touch feature to existing single touch screen?

LOOK at what was in development and what came out pre and post iPhone. It may have happened eventually, but the only reason it happened when it did was because APPLE did it. We know as a fact that without the iPhone, manufacturers like Samsung would have stuck with resistive screens far longer than they actually did. How hard is it for you to acknowledge that we wouldn't be where we are today without apple?

The fact remains that neither one of you KNOWS for a fact what would or would not have come out if the iPhone didn't come out so the whole back and forth argument is pointless

in case you hadn't heard, the news today is that Google and Apple are in talks to negotiate something of a treaty in their patent Wars. If this pans out, I think everyone on both sides can agree that it is a good thing for us all.

I agree to a point. Apple is starting to see the walls closing in them and now they want to talk peace. They should have tried to negotiate much sooner. So now I say stick it to them.

You've got it backwards. Apple is in no danger. Google wants to negotiate to make sure none of its manufacturing partners have to pay any more billion dollar fines.
