Apple / Samsung Court Ruling

Thanks. So where is this case now? I haven't heard of any Moto phones being pulled off the shelves. And this link states that Apple had no luck with the same case in Netherlands.

Edit: found it

Still don't get why galaxy s3 is the target since there's no defined path to Swype, just like others went around this silly patent.
By the way, gotta love how you can Swype into a new message, camera, browser, etc. without unnecessary unlocking. Apple BS only makes Android better

The predefined path is only one of many claims in the patent. Samsung could still infringe even if their phones don't have a predefined path. (And the newer ones don't even have an image)

Yes, I have 2 friends who got a galaxy phone because of the publicity of this lawsuit.

In all honesty, that's silly. Get the phone they need, regardless of any lawsuits.

publicity and ads drive many sales. I highly doubt someone bought an s3 if they didn't really want one. the publicity can put the item into ones consciousness, prompting the purchase

Yep, there are other patents in this case (which can all be worked out) but why include Swype to unlock if it's not infringing?
Sounds like a case of throwing crap on the wall and see if it sticks.

They are going to throw out as much as they can and see what will stick and what doesn't.

I know Apple's shares are high just now, but all this saber rattling makes me feel that Apple are again trying to find a reason for not releasing the iPhone5.

I feel sorry for the Americans, who could soon be limited to either an Apple portable device (costing 100's of dollars) or a couple of tin cans on a bit of string.

I just waiting for Apple to now say they patented the Internet, and the cellular network for mobile phones.

Exactly. Through these cases, Apple is finding out how strong their patent portfolio actually is.

I don't think they will do that. Apple seems to like an iPhone with major changes right around the time 2 year contracts are expiring. In the off years they release kind of the mid-range phones... iPhone 4, followed a year later by the iPhone 4S. Those with iPhone 4's, their contracts are expiring this year, so they will release an iPhone 5.

apple learned long ago that their customers will settle for ho-hum updated iPhones, so apple keeps dribbling out modestly improved phones. the faithful line up for hours, which always makes me chuckle

Apple probably doesn't need to release and replace their phones every two months.

Then you haven't been paying attention to Apple's release cadence.

I just wonder why Apple want to go down this path. Because at the end of the day i am sure Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony, will come up with a revolutionary style and features and Apple like back in the mid 80's will be churning out the same old rubbish with slight upgrades, because no one will share with them. And there is no Steve Jobs now to push them in a new direction to take the market by storm.

I feel Apple are in their death throws and that is why they trying to take as many of their competitors as they can with them on the path of obscurity .

I thought that's what they've been doing for a while now. :p

With their value & $ they're far from hurting & their market % is still on the rise, however, it's just not growing as quickly as Android...but it's tough to keep up with sales of over 1M units per day that's why they've had to find some sort of way to attack the competition.
That being said, I'm sure Apple will always be around even if eventually the market share split becomes the way of PC -vs- Mac as there will still be money to go around.

Apple roughed it out and beat IBM. IBM used to be a household name. Ask a 15 what does IBM stands for. Better yet, ask a 20 year old. Every teenager in America has been exposed to Apple. With their brainwashing commercials, they'll be in business a long long time.

Google has a weird marketing strategy with their devices. They barely advertise, yet they had the nexus 7 on backorder.

One thing I don't understand about this patent case, why is Apple going after Samsung?

Isn't stuff like pinch to zoom and bounceback a part of Android? Samsung didnt make android, so why isn't the lawsuit against Google?

I assume they're only going after Samsung because the Galaxy sales are cutting into iPhone, but if anything I think this ruling will HELP Samsung in the long run. Forget fanboys on either side, the average consumer may now view Apple as an unreasonable bully. Apple as the most powerful company will be seen to many as Microsoft was in the 90s -- huge backlash which led the company to start stumbling as people moved to competitor products. I can see the same thing happening to Apple.

Well said.

You know what would help Samsung and Android out a little....if they started calling it 'spread to zoom' instead. That sounds sexier anyway.
I can see the ads now....A female hand on an Android screen and the slogan says: "It gets bigger when she spreads". HIYOOO!!!!

I'm gonna go copyright this now and if I see this on an ad, I'm gonna SUE SUE SUE!!!

This is Android forum not playboy forum.. Lmbo!
