Apples new drop down notifications and Stolen WiFi Sync

The only thing that was copied was that it's a pull down notification. If you look at the information being presented from the pull down it's very different from Android.

I also agree with the other poster who said he doesn't want to see lawsuits from this. Competition is what drives innovation.

Apple is not known (although they want to be, and at times pretend to be) for being the first to market with bleeding edge technology. They are more known for making current technology work really well in their relatively closed ecosystem, in a user/consumer friendly manner. The fact that they now offer notifications and have enabled lock screen widgets...err...applications should be no surprise. They are making iOS as good as it can be based on current tech, which just so happens to be stuff available on Android for some time now. Apple has seen what people like/want with Android, and they are stealing, sorry, borrowing from the best to keep up. It definitely raises the bar once again for Google/Android to come up with even better offerings for consumers, which benefits all of us in the long run.

Its actually funny you mention that, because initial reviews have said that apples implementation of the shade is different than androids, but better. But it had to be. Androids shade wouldn't work on ios and vice versa. From what I've seen of it, its more like a different take on a similar concept, and in a way that's better suited to each respective OS. They are different though, so saying it's a copy isn't exactly accurate.

True, I don't think anything Apple has done with the new iOS release is a direct copy of anything. Simply their implementation of concepts already seen and used eleswhere. But had they NOT seen them before, would they have come up with it on their own? Maybe, maybe not.

Exactly. Apple is playing catch-up big time. Would they have come up with pull-down notifications on they're own if Android didn't use them? We'll never know. The important thing is that Ice Cream Sandwich needs to bring in some new innovations to keep Android ahead of the curve.

Oh the irony... haha
But What actually would've been pretty cool was if they had done like a 4 finger touch to bring notifications and just do that again to put it away. Now THAT sounds Apple-like considering they have the multi touch trackpad for their macbook pros. Maybe android may one day do that!

It may be a "similar concept" but do they not sue everyone else who has a similar concept? If Apple really had their way they would have a monopoly on the smartphone market. So many of their patents are on "concepts" or general ideas rather than something specific. Like "unlocking a touchscreen device by inputting a gesture".... That would force every other touchscreen device to be unlocked by a physical button or switch. So I mean, it may not be an exact copy but Apple constantly sues others over less than that. I just thought it was funny. Especially with their current lawsuit with Samsung because some of their devices look "similar" to the iPhone. I wouldn't want to see Google stoop to their level and try to sue them because I believe in healthy competition and I feel Google does as well. Apple just wants to sue anyone they feel threatened by. I'm a total Android user but I have respect for Blackberry and Windows Mobile. I can't force an ounce of respect for Apple. Just because of the way they do things and how they twist words around and purposely mislead their customers. Remember when the iPhone 4 was going to be called the iPhone 4G as in "4th Generation device" at the same time REAL 4G phones as in "4th generation wireless technology" were being released/advertised. They take advantage of the fact that most of their customers are technologically challenged and just buy the shiny things they see on tv.

What you cite is different. Unless you can point me to a patent that Google holds for the app drawer, your argument doesn't make any sense.

They used to be. Before the iPhone, that is.

Familiarize yourself with the case. It isn't that they look similar, its that they accuse Samsung of PURPOSELY making them look similar to draw away customers and capitalize on the iPhone's stature. Whether its true is debatable. But it isn't just that they look similar. (and they're also suing them based on specific things, like icons and packaging design, which actually make up more of the case than how the phones look)

I wouldn't want to see Google stoop to their level and try to sue them because I believe in healthy competition and I feel Google does as well. Apple just wants to sue anyone they feel threatened by.

If that was true, Apple would have sued Google into oblivion the moment the first Android handset hit the market. Oh, and I'm as much a fan of google as anyone here, but they're just as evil and manipulative as Apple is, they just do it behind the scenes.

Oh, and what would those be? (see below for why the example you gave doesn't count.) I understand you don't like Apple, but backing up those claims is sort of important if you don't want to look like a fanboy. (remember all the stupid arguments that Apple fanboys give against Android?)

That was a rumor created by the tech blogs. They named it the 4G because they didn't know what it would be called. Apple never said a thing, and never hinted at that name or any other until the 4 was announced. Usually the ones I've seen peddling that name are stores like WalMart that try to take advantage of the clueless.

Was it really necessary to come off as a such a condescending dick? It's one thing to have a discussion but try losing the attitude. Thanks.

Everyone needs to just stop arguing over who is taking what from who. My Macbook from 2007 has a dock, similar to Android, with apps in it, again similar to Android, and a tool bar which pulls down when you select an item..

Tech companies innovate and take from each other queues to improve their OS and further innovation. That's what makes technology great. At this point we need to be looking forward to what Google will be pushing to match or exceed Apples recent announcements. Google needs to stay off the path of Blackberry and Palm and not stay with a tried and true OS; they must keep evolving Android regardless of how successful it is today.

Precisely! I use Android (Samsung Fascinate), iOS (iPOD Touch) and Windows (Dell Laptop), and have likes and dislikes for each. It's great to see them pushing one another, and I kinda feel like we are in the midst of a pretty cool technology "revolution", with tablets and mobile devices leading the way right now in some respects. I'm excited to see what will be available to us in the next few years.

don't care that apple stole, it was good for a laugh that's for sure.
along with all the other magical and groundbreaking announcements they made which were things stolen from android or windows phone

The do have a way of trying to convince people that everything they do these days is magical and groundbreaking. That is definitely annoying, but kinda funny at the same time.

I have as much patience for Android fanboys as I do for apple fanboys. Your 'discussion' wasn't based on any facts except your own dislike of apple. If I come off as a dick its because of the tone of your original post.
