Are screen protectors really necessary?

Condoms aren't necessary either.

I'm glad ya liked this and thanks for the thanks, but in reality, I never use screen protectors. I have cases for my phone and N7 that cover the screens when not being used.

I use one of those zagg shield and i notice that when playing games, and there is a tendency for your finger to "stutter" a bit, but otherwise it is fine. One benefit is that there is less smudge marks on the glass so strangers can't track your login.

I put the Skinomi tech skin on my Nexus 7. I am less concerned with scratches than I am with glare and fingerprints. It works great for that purpose and protection is just a side benefit. It is a little more expensive than the cheaper products, but the quality is worth the cost. It uses a wet install method that is much easier to do correctly and since it is air permeable, any bubbles will disappear after a few days. It's also a soft rubbery material that is resistant to abrasion. There is a very slight amount of drag to it, but if you learn to glide your finger with slight pressure it is barely noticeable. Bottom line - if you want less glare and fewer smudges then give it a shot. If you go with the cheap stick on protectors, you will probably be disappointed. This is based on my experience with the brand and not on any connection to the manufacturer.

Is worth a few bucks? I think so. I've already found nicks and scratches in the protector, now maybe the glass wouldnt have scratched, BUT a colleague showed me a phone with GG2 that gained a scratch within two weeks of use.

When you get a scratch or crack, its too late to change your mind.

In my opinion I think you don't have to have it but it helps. Since I move about heaps and usually have dirty fingers (dirt etc), the screen protector is a peace of mind and helps minimise and manage dust, scratches and impacts. The goriila glass is fine on its own but with the screen protector just some extra protection for those that need it or are heavy users

Yeah i agree, I don't really use screen protectors for keeping away scratches but more for finger streaks. I think it just keeps it cleaner.
