I'm not sure how to feel about the P5 rumors. I think giving us a zoom lens in the 4 then taking it away is terrible. At least give us all three types of lenses.

I love face unlock but due to the mask situation the rear fingerprint sensor isn't so bad. But still, it's taking away a big feature.

No issue with not using the super cutting edge SOC to lower the price. I've been building my own computers for 20 years and you usually overpay for the latest and greatest chip. I save money there on builds and don't miss the performance.

Bigger battery is welcome.

Really this phone should have kept face unlock, added the fingerprint sensor and added a third camera - so we don't lose two major features of the 4 in the telephoto camera and face unlock. Lower the SOC, the ram and battery increase are great moves as well. The plastic back is fine too. Could have still lowered the price noticeably without taking away too many features. That would have been fine.

I paid the extra $5 a month for AT&T's next plan so I could upgrade my 4XL a year early, expecting triple cameras and a bigger battery at least. I'll be waiting until the reviews start coming out after seeing these rumours. I'm 50/50 right now.

Nice , yeah wait until some reviews see how you like it .

What if you decide not to upgrade to the P5--do you loose that money?

Yes, if you don't upgrade to another device that money is gone into the abyss basically. I'd only consider the Pixel 5. I don't want an LG or Samsung skinned Android OS. Naked Android with Nova is my perfect OS.

I'm not going to pre-order and pay full price, I'm not in that much of a hurry. But I am going to pick one up at the first sale price because I like things cheap ;-)

Every year I say I am going to do this ^^^^ - every year I fail to do it and am right there for the pre-order - maybe this year the mature adult part of me will show up and wait for Pixel Price reduction.

(All bets are off if the Pre-order deal is a deal I can't refuse)

I'm in the same exact boat as you although I did manage to wait to pick up the 4XL on black friday

One more month to go (September 30th) before the reveal. Getting real close now, as the days get closer excitement gets higher. Can't wait to get my hands on Pixel 5 since Pixels are always my favorite phone along with iPhones followed by every other phone.

I wish I could be excited about the Pixel this year. I've been frustrated with lagging and stuttering on my 4XL. I don't think moving to a mid-range processor is a good move. I do regular restarts and always run the latest software version.

Never had those issues on my Pixel 4 XL which worked great, but unfortunate you have had that experience. You can only go by what you experience and if Pixel experience isn't great for you then there are always other great options to choose from.

And also the problem with SD 865 is it's going to be an expensive chip and everyone will be up in arms if they release a $1000 phone again. You will see endless youtube videos saying how Google should stop making phones etc. Personally I wish they stuck with SD 865 and higher price but that's like minority and they want to play in the lower price end especially this year to see how it goes. I think starting at $600-$700 they believe they have much higher chance of success. But one could argue why not just buy 4a 5G. I think that'll be the phone for majority but I want the wireless charging, water resistance and other small things on the Pixel 5 and don't mind paying the premium price.

I agree ...no issues whatsoever here with 4XL ...sorry to see you have had issues ...

I’ll be waiting to see how it goes since I don’t need a new phone yet. I like the FPS returning
Is everyone ok with the polycarbonate backside? If it were matte finish and didn’t show fingerprints I’d be fine going caseless.

I'm not sure what the issue is with mine. There's a long pause when I click on a notification from the lock screen. I do not have it set to skip the lock screen after face unlock.

I prefer glass but I like the Pixel series too much to have the polycarbonate back being deal breaker. If anything I'll be back to carry it without a case. So prefer glass but a well made polycarbonate back phone is fine as well. Heck I started using the regular Note 20 today when has the polycarbonate back and doesn't feel bad at all.
