Are You Happy With Your Nexus 6?

I've had mine since Friday afternoon so really two full days of use. I think the size thing is really being blown out of proportion... But it is a matter of opinion. I have used a Note 3 in the past but prior to the N6 I was using an iPhone 6. Quite the change but really within a matter of a day I was adjusted to the size difference. The camera to me takes as good a shots as my old Note 3 and LG G3. The iPhone probably has the best of the bunch but the N6 isn't far behind. Battery life the first full day was horrid but after settling in today it performed well. Is it a two day off the charger phone? No. But I charge my phone every night so no big deal. I live in an area with marginal service so even that extra stress did little to diminish the battery experience. Android 5.0 has a few quirks but that's to be expected (I've owned all but the first Nexus). Overall I've had a great experience with the device and it works great with my Moto 360. Count me as a satisfied customer :)

I have the HTC One M8 and my Nexus is on the way. It's been my experience that the batteries on these phones need a about a week or two of use cycles to get conditioned and function to their maximum capacity. I went into T-mobile and bought the phone and they had next day shipping available, but the phone was back ordered when i checked the status. I was so disappointed. But, because it will end up taking 5 work days to get to me, T-Mobile credited my bill with all shipping charges for the phone. I'm giving a Nexus device a dry run to see if it can replace the beauty and comfort of my M8. I know I'm going to miss all of the M8 camera application software, but not the camera itself. I might even miss Blinkfeeed, which I happen to love. I suppose I will return to Flip board.

So far the 6 isn't much better in terms of battery life.

Had to respond here... My Nexus 6 absolutely destroys my Nexus 5 when it comes to battery performance. My usage is pretty much the same now as it was when the 5 was my DD... forums, news, email, hangouts, some browsing... not a lot of games or video. If the 5 hit 4 hours of SOT, I celebrated and took screenshots to show my other Nexus 5 brethren that it lasted so long. It happened like once or twice and only when I fiddled and did a bunch of power management tricks to get there and ran it till it was almost empty. I obsessed with wakelocks and CPU speeds and tweaks... I fiddled with all sorts of stuff to squeeze every last minute out of that 2300mah battery... tasker and llama profiles that turned stuff on and off, Xposed modules to curtail wakelocks... you name it, I tried it.

I usually charge often, but the last time I let me 6 churn down to 30 or 35% there-abouts, I looked and it sat at 5 1/2 hours of SOT and I could have easily blown past the 6 hour mark if it hadn't of been late and I needed to call it a night. No tweaks, no endurance mods, nothing...

Basically, I'm getting roughly 66% more 'SOT' out of the Nexus 6 over my Nexus 5 and stopped bothering to worry about my battery since it will get me through the day without much fuss... I'd say that IS much better.

I REALLY miss Gravity Box, though. I used that to make my S4 pretty much perfect for my needs, while using a vanilla Android ROM, and I loved it. Bums me out that Xposed is not ART compatible, and may never be. :(

I feel your pain. There are a few Xposed modules that I am missing dearly. GB is one... the other is the Exchange security bypass.... I could never get my work certificate stuff ironed out but I'm sure as hell not going to give IT remote admin access to my phone in any case. Considering I can log into OWA via a browser... why worry about me using a client?

We'll have to wait and see about Xposed though... the developer got burnt out and probably annoyed at the constant whining from users.

But I think the BIGGER hangup isn't so much getting Xposed to work with 5.0...I think the real big gotcha is the fact that I think that Xposed might require more extensive system modifications to work (i.e. flashing stuff in recovery). It's light footprint was one of Xposed's major benefits and, due to security fixes in 5.0, it might have to stomp around a bit to install..... and if you are getting to that point, you might as well find a custom ROM that includes the features you want baked into it.

Such a shame... Xposed was an INCREDIBLE tool.

I was/am in the same boat coming from the M8. I have had my N6 now for about two weeks. I love everything about it including having a much much better camera sensor. However, I do miss the two things you talked about the camera app itself and blinkfeed which initially I hated the thought of on the M8. So far I am getting by using CameraZoomFX which seems to be much better than the stock app. I have not looked into anything to replace blinkfeed though right now.

The only other thing I am missing now is the ability to do wifi tether which is starting to appear like root might be the only way around that now with my unlimited data.

Compared to the 5 this thing is a monster with the battery..... Since I work in an office at a desk and my phone sits idle probably 6 hours a day while I am here I charge at work... I leave here at 4 pm with a 100% full battery and easily power until 11 pm with 40% remaining... by morning when I get up and out the door it's usually only down to about 35% sitting idle all night... I know my first two hours at work are too busy so I set it on the wireless charger and let it boost up and from 35% to full on wireless two hours usually gets it REALLY close to 100% anyway....

Even if I had a really late out night if I leave work at 4 with 100% it will easily go all night.....

Right... my criteria was always "Is this bad boy going to shoot its wad before I'm back home (or near a charger)?" My old SIII didn't have a chance in hell of making it unless I didn't do very much. My Nexus 5 did a better job, but during vacations and day trips where I had to take a bunch of pics and video, the thing would start to suck air quite early in the afternoon and I'd start doing the ol' Airplane Mode Shuffle to stretch out the power.

This summer, I swapped the N5 for a LG G3, man, what a relief. The fam and I went to the beach a day or so after I got it and I sat there playing with the thing.. took video, slow mo video, 4K, burst pics... and I futzed abount in Youtube in between taking a ton of pictures. I wouldn't have ever dreamed of trying that with my 5...

So the fact that the Nexus 6 gets me a ways past the G3 even.... I'm all set. If I wanted to, I can pretty much go through an entire day... from charging full in the morning while I got ready for work, all the way through the day and overnight until the next morning when I put it back on the charger (I don't like leaving the thing plugged in for hours at a time).

So anyone who says the battery ain't good is, in my humble opinion, doing it wrong.

That is funny. I went from the GS3 to the Nexus 5 and even with 3 batteries and the ability to swap them out (Which to me was just too much of a chore) it wasn't great.. The 5 was slightly better.....

I feel like most of the hard core battery complaints are just from people who you'll just never please or have an agenda towards another fine device... if it went 36 hours and 10 hours screen on they'd complain it couldn't pull off 48 hours and 16 hours screen on...

For what the size of the screen and the power of the processor (and compared to the Nexus 5) it's a massive improvement and I am happy with it... based on most battery test results I've seen it's right on par with all the other 2014 Phablet devices....

It's like nit picking a 100 meter dash race among the top 5 guys... Yeah one guy won but the guy in 5th was only .115 seconds behind......

Size is a personal thing. For me it doesn't feel as big as many reviewers have beaten to death. I've used the iPhone 6+, Note 4 and Xpheria Z Ultra, so the N6 doesn't feel too big to me.

Exactly! Its too big blah blah blah. We get it already. I love the size. I can get by the whole day with this battery.....and I'm a power user. The whole experience is awesome. I have people asking me what phone I have. This is definitely the best device I've had to date.

I really like it. It's probably the best phone I've ever used. Had a Note 3 & I really did like it too, but there is something to be said about just having nice software that just is a pleasure to use. Once I put a nice thin case on it, it was perfect. Feels nice in my hand.

I'm neurotic about batteries. A dead phone is as useless as a rock in your pocket. My kids wouldn't move from the iPhone because, well, it's an iPhone, even though they had to carry their chargers and/or battery packs just to make it through a half day on campus.

After using the Droid Maxx series since they came out, I have gotten to where I DO end up with a dead battery. But it's because I forget to charge it for the SECOND night in a row. That's how good it can be.

Have the Turbo and N6 here for their respective trial periods. The Turbo gives me 6 SOT/24 per charge. The N6 is doing well. I'm getting 5.5 SOT/15 per charge (yes, I'm actively murdering the battery. I have been using the phones instead of my tablet in the evening, which I never would do).

I love the N6. Something about the way it fits my hand is making even my square N7 feel "wrong". The shape allows it to fit in my pocket without me knowing it's there. And the Turbo, which is better than the prior gens, became a clunk after I handled the 6. Though I've only been using it so much to test the battery, I can easily see using it instead of my tablet No way the Turbo would work that way.

So except for the battery issue, hands down, I'm delighted. And as for the battery, when push comes to shove, I can activate battery saver so I'm not left without an emergency communication device if, by chance, it gets to that. Though it worries me to be at 30% by 8 at night because I've never been close to that before, all I have to do is get it to 10pm and put it on its charger. At that point, no harm, no foul.

Like I said, I'm neurotic about batteries. Plus, if I keep it I'll go off contract, which means if Moto comes out with the rumored Droid Knockoff based on the N6 but with the 810 SoC and 4000mA battery as rumored, I can move to that if I have to......

The reboots are starting to get annoying. Recording video is a joke. Love 5.0 though!

best android ph i have ever had. imo..only the iphone 6 and m8 feels as premium. i had my sim in the g3 before my n6 arrived and it had a better camera but the battery was way way inferior and it lagged. the note 4 has a better screen and battery but i am done w skins for a while...if forever. seriously, with 5.0 and up, I see absolutely no need for manufacturer's bloat.

i have not had one reboot. maybe it is an app causing that for some of you all. only thing that made me think of returning it was the battery. but as i got closer to the 14 day return window it seemed to really improve. i am a power user and am making it through the day with wifi, bluetooth, google now, and background sync on.

I haven't had a single reboot! This dam phone has amazed me and I love the keyboard with numbers and letters where you can actually swipe combinations of numbers and letters. M8 GN4

No issues with mine on Verizon that was bought from Motorola. Not experiencing the reboots either, maybe app incompatibility with Android 5.0?

I still wish they would have made a "Mini" version as well :( (Real mini, not 5". Z3 compact is perfect in that).

Im still hoping they make a nexus 5 refresh that also works on all carriers and with beefed up internal specs (camera, processor, battery). Cant see google sticking with just 1 whale of a device, especially with all the new commercials and them wanting to reach out to "the next billion people"

Love the phone in all ways except one, that I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet. It is slippery! The back is too smooth and I'm always scared it's going to squirt out of my hands like a wet bar of soap. I really wish they had made the back more "grippy", like the Note 3/4. I'm not really a case guy, but I may have to do a case or skin on this one so I'm confident I won't drop this gem.

Glad to hear that. My family is switching to Verizon this week and I really want the Nexus but would have to buy it without a contract. I may still do that but since we are going to use Verizon Edge, I'd be spending ~$200 more.

Tjis is true but with a case it is a moot problem. I dropped mine switching cases lucky that I was on a carpeted floor.

I have bought six Nexus devices in recent years and have been happy with five of them but I have mixed feelings about the Nexus 6 which I have been using for over 2 weeks. First of all it is really hard to hold and it is not because it is too big. The power and volume buttons prevent a good grip in the middle and holding it at the bottom feels unbalanced. The phone is just too slippery. Also Chrome is very laggy on the Nexus 6. My Nexus 5 with Lollipop actually runs smother and faster than the Nexus 6 which now has the 5.0.1 OTA installed followed by a factory reset. I am also not keen on the fact that the stock factory image does not allow encryption to be disabled. I will be keeping the Nexus 6 knowing that as Lollipop matures some things will get better. I do not like cases but I may have to get one for this nexus.
