Are You Happy With Your Nexus 6?

GOOGLE NEXUS 6 7h 53 min (Good)

APPLE IPHONE 6 PLUS 6h 32 min (Average)

GOOGLE NEXUS 5 4h 50 min (Poor)

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4 8h 43 min (Excellent)

Our Google Nexus 6 battery life test is complete, phablet lags behind the Note 4

In addition, it should be mentioned that with the Note 4, a 10 second swap out to a fresh battery is a big plus. I carry at least one, and sometimes two spare batteries for my Note 4.. So, after that whooping 8 hour 43 minutes, in a 10 second battery swap,, I am reading to go with another 8 hour 43 mins and a fully 100% fresh battery.. :D :D :D

Did you have the splash screen? Since the other stuff is removable, I can live with that. But the splash screen, not so much. In addition to my own distaste, there have been a few occasions when I've needed to surreptitiously turn on my phone in a meeting and it would not be good to have it blare out whatever obnoxious tune AT&T has placed there. (And yes, I am on of those people who turn of their phones from time to time.)

Yeah unfortunately this is still on there. There is a way to remove it, but it involves rooting the phone and I'm not tech savvy enough to risk it. Overall, the most important thing for me is to receive android updates as soon as they roll out. My S4 finally got the 4.4.4 update the other day. Something like 10 months after it was released. Grrrr.

I've had mine since Friday afternoon so really two full days of use. I think the size thing is really being blown out of proportion... But it is a matter of opinion. I have used a Note 3 in the past but prior to the N6 I was using an iPhone 6. Quite the change but really within a matter of a day I was adjusted to the size difference. The camera to me takes as good a shots as my old Note 3 and LG G3. The iPhone probably has the best of the bunch but the N6 isn't far behind. Battery life the first full day was horrid but after settling in today it performed well. Is it a two day off the charger phone? No. But I charge my phone every night so no big deal. I live in an area with marginal service so even that extra stress did little to diminish the battery experience. Android 5.0 has a few quirks but that's to be expected (I've owned all but the first Nexus). Overall I've had a great experience with the device and it works great with my Moto 360. Count me as a satisfied customer :)

That is pretty good. There are a couple of you with those kind of numbers. The majority aren't doing that well. Is there anything in particular that you are doing, like turning off location, etc?

In all likelihood the brightness is turned below 50%. Its the only way anyone (regardless of phone) is able to blow almost all reviewers numbers out of the water.

True but do you honestly have to have Bluetooth, Location constantly on? And I find that 25%-30% screen brightness is more then enough when you are inside.

I want to get in my car and have it automatically connect. When I bring up maps, I don't need extra steps. I keep my screens on 75% brightness. I was lucky to make it to 5:00 with the 5 and on the 6 (so far) I'm lucky to make it to 7:00.

Right now as far as "phablets" go in terms of battery life. 6+, Note 4, nexus 6. Which is interesting with all the nexus v note bashing going on recently. If you sit back objectively, how is a phone with pure vanilla android and "project Volta" not able to come close to a Samsung running a brighter panel, all the crap Samsung puts in their phone and TW to boot? You'd think any phone having to push less things around should win that battle with ease wouldn't you?

It comes to no surprise that I love mine. I'm liking it better the more I use it. It is a big phone, even for myself who is familiar with big phones. The thing is the width of the phone, it's wider than any phone I've owned but I like it. The screen is really nice to look at, I had forgotten how colorful AMOLED screens can look. It works with my Nexus QI charger (the original one) and my TYLT VU charger.

The battery life is not as good as my Iphone 6 plus, but it's not bad. I made it through two 9 hour works days with my normal usage and had about 65% left. I usually work three 13 hour days but this week have been shorter days due to the upcoming holiday. Next week I can really test it at work, but I know it will last because I've played with the phone after work, on and off for several hours. The most screen on time I've got was almost four hours (about 3 hrs. 52 min.) I think I had about 20% left.

I'm not a big camera guy, but it seems really good. From the few pics I've taken they look on par with my Iphone, I'm not sure if it's better but it's close. It also seems easier to get decent pictures compared to past Nexus phones, especially to an inexperienced picture taker like myself. I haven't tried HDR yet.

I like design and build better than my Iphone 6 Plus. Even though it's not all aluminum like the Iphone, the plastic and metal border with the curved back feel better to me.

Android Lollipop is really nice and smooth, and IMO the best update to Android thus far.

+1

The Nexus 6 and the Moto 360 are a match made in heaven!!

This is a good phone. Battery life is miles ahead of the N5. I usually get about 5hrs of SoT, and about 12 hours off of the battery. It could be better, but so far I'm liking it.

Ridiculous to disable those things, ever. Everything stays on, always, on my phone.

And battery life still fine.

Why is it ridiculous if you don't ever use Bluetooth or location? If anything logic would dictate it is ridiculous to keep them on unused.

I've been using it for about three days, now. When I first got it, the size (and weight) were fairly jarring to me, as I was coming from a Galaxy S4. It felt cumbersome at first, but over the last couple of days, I've started getting used to the size and feel of it. The biggest drawback is that I can't really do one-handed texting anymore (which was nice to be able to do, because it was easier to sneakily text at work, where they don't take kindly to employees pulling out their cell phones during work time), but it's whatever.

Battery life has been fine. It's a little better than on my S4. It's obviously not going to hold up as long as a 3900 mAH battery, like the Droid Turbo's, but my usage level is fairly moderate. I made it work with the S4, while having at least half the battery left by the end of the day, so if I can do it with the S4, the N6 definitely holds up for me.

The only "performance problem" I've had is that Chrome seems a bit laggy, but then again, Chrome seems to be similarly laggy on every Android device I've used it on, so that probably has more to do with the app itself, rather than the phone.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it, and I'm glad I'm starting to get acclimated with it. Never thought I'd be able to handle a 6" phone. I REALLY miss Gravity Box, though. I used that to make my S4 pretty much perfect for my needs, while using a vanilla Android ROM, and I loved it. Bums me out that Xposed is not ART compatible, and may never be. :(

It is ridiculous to leave them on if you don't use them. But I use location and Bluetooth a lot so I prefer just to leave mine on so I'm not toggling all the time. It's been nice not having to have those things affect battery life on some phones.

I went two days with all that stuff on and then two days with all that stuff off. (Bluetooth, Location and WiFi) the difference in battery drain was less than 5% more with them on and not in use most of the day vs off while not in use and only turned on when I needed them.... and that is about how it should be minimal battery drain when not in use.... It's not much extra work to go into the pull down menu and turn on/off blue tooth when getting in or out of the car or turning WiFi on/off when going/leaving home... but you shouldn't really have to do all that... One of the days I had it switched to off I was home 2 hours before I realized I was on LTE instead of WiFi...... Good thing I have an unlimited data plan or that could be a costly mistake to make....

I hate when that happens!! When I get home and I've turned off WiFi and then I've been gorging on data. Sigh. First world problems.

But it's nice when you can't really tell a difference between LTE and WiFi..... That is a nice problem to have....... Specially considering I have Verizon Fios at 75 Mbps download speeds..... My LTE isn't THAT fast but it was fast enough I didn't even notice at first...

I'm really enjoying mine after having HTC flagships since the OG Evo.

- Front facing speakers aren't as clear as my M8, but they are really close, and may be a little louder. I'll take louder over clarity at this point though.
- I'm in love with Lollipop. It's so minimal, so clean, animations make sense....I really enjoy it a lot..
- I did have to download a separate application for my work email (MailWise) because I cannot stand having to check my work email through the gmail application.
- Sprint did have to manually activate the device.
- The screen is very responsive, except for sometimes when I try to hit the backspace key on the keyboard (which happens more often than I like to admit) as I get used to the Google Keyboard coming from HTC Input. (Is anyone else having this issue or is it just my fat thumbs?)
- The phone is a bit lighter than my M8, but the case I have puts it over.
- I'm starting to get used to Active Display notifications, coming from an LED, and I'm getting used to it.
- I side loaded the G3 version of the Youtube application, and watching videos in 1440 is incredible.
- I don't like that contact photos don't sync from Facebook profile pictures, instead they sync from Google+

I really like mine, I bought one to replace my horrible Samsung S5. I will never buy another Samsung phone or tablet again, I hate, hate, skinned Android releases, especially Touchwiz, Samsung should be ashamed of themselves and their update cycle is the worst I've seen from any company. My Tab 3 is still stuck at 4.2.1, ridiculous, shameful. Anyway, any phone with an unmolested Android version is ok in my book and the Nexus 6 defiantly stands on top. It's fast, has a wonderful screen and it even fits in my pocket. Only complaint is it's a lot chunkier than my Xiami M4 and Nokia 930, also it's a little overpriced.
