Are you planning to get the Pixel 7?

I was seriously considering upgrading my pixel 6 to the 7 until I heard that Google is still going to use a Samsung modem in the pixel 7. Imo the biggest problem with the pixel 6 & 6 pro is its crappy modem. It's fine if you have really good reception but if you are in an area where the service dips just a little bit it will result in dropped calls, extra battery drain, etc. And it's all related to the crappy Samsung modem that Google chose to go with for this phone. The iPhone 14 (all iterations) is using the newest snapdragon x65 modem which apparently has superior 5g performance over last year's modem and improves so much on the previous model that battery life on the iphone has went up by almost 3 hours compared to last year's. I enjoy using android phones and have no desire to start using an iphone. My issue is why can't Google do the same as Apple and use the latest snapdragon modem in the pixel? Why do they insist on using the worst possible parts for the most important features of their phones? If there's anything that you should be sure to get right when you design a flagship cellphone, it should be the PHONE part. Smh.

Reception is my biggest issue with this phone as well. None of my other phones have as hard a time with reception as my pixel. I'm just glad it was free and that I have other phones, because if I had paid for it I would be more upset about it than I am.

So I'm thinking I'm going to come back to the Pixel family and get the 7Pro. I have a S20+. It's a nice phone but I really miss some of the Pixel features from when I was using my Pixel 3.

I felt the very same way when I was using my S10 from my Pixel 2. I do miss Samsung though now that I'm using a Pixel 5. Both manufacturers have merit, that's for sure!

I think a lot of those reception issues will be resolved with an on chip modem like what will be on the Pixel 7. I still think that external modem is a lot of the cause of heat in the Pixel 6 line and heat in a modem will degrade its performance.

Hopefully this is correct! I really want the Pixel 7! Reception issues are definitely a deal breaker!

I wasn't considering it since my 6 Pro was ok..... until it fell about a foot, and landed on it's left side bottom corner, and rendered 1/3 of the screen completely useless. SO back to my 4XL until the 7 Pro comes out.......

Ouch! No case or screen protector?

I'm a big fan of going naked, but that's cost me a lot of money in the past

Oh, no! How awful!

I bet... those tickets can start adding up ;) But on a serious note, I never use my phones without cases, mainly because they're just too slippery to hold on to without one. Almost like they were designed that way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The ole' "oops it slipped honey, guess I need a new phone" routine? I like it... sometimes you gotta get creative :p

All flagship phones these days are some variation of great. Great cameras, great connectivity, great screens, CPUs and RAM that are more than fast enough for just about any use other than perhaps hard-core gaming.

That being the case, in the absence of screen or other damage, there seems little reason to move from any current flagship to the latest and greatest flagship. I'll stick with the P6Pro a while longer. :)

I also had major issues with the Pixel 6's reception to the point I was unable to make and receive calls. That's aside from the numerous bugs and other issues I had with the phone, months after its launch.

To answer your question, will the Pixel 7 get the Snapdragon x65 modem? No, it's rumoured to get the Samsung Exynos 5300 modem which hasn't been used in any other phone, so the jury is out on whether it'll be any good. I susepct it'll be a weaker modem than the Snapdragon modem by a long shot, but hopefully it won't have the reception issues the Pixel 6 has. Why won't they use the x65 modem? It seems Google have contracted Samsung to manufacture the Tensor processor (which is a throwaway Exynos design) and use Samsung's modem in the phone, so it's extremely unlikely we'll see the Qualcomm modem in Tensor.

In addition to that, the Tensor G2 is looking to be yet another flop of a processor for the Pixel. The Pixel 6's Tensor has by far the worst performance and battery efficiency of any modern flagship procesor.Link

It's even worse than the Snapdragon 855 used in the Pixel 4 back in 2019. Now the Tensor G2 is rumoured to have the exact same, inefficient and hot CPU setup with two Cortex X1 cores yet again, old A76 cores and old A55 cores, just running at slightly higher frequencies. Why Google wants to continue with this poor setup rather than just adopting a Snapdragon processor is unknown, but at least the GPU gets an upgrade to a Mali-G710 which should see improvements.

Add to that the fingerprint scanner was the slowest and least reliable FPS on any modern smartphone, and who knows what new bugs will be introduced into the Pixel 7, no, I have absolutely no intentions of getting the Pixel 7/7 Pro at all. I've already experienced the Pixel 6 Pro. Once bitten, twice shy.

No. I never use cases or screen protectors. I have dropped phones in the past, in similar fashion. Hell I dropped and kicked, by accident, my 4XL across a parking lot, and the only thing wrong was a crack on the top front right corner bezel. I'm shocked it still works, and pretty good for a 3 year old phone now. I'll revaluate cases with the 7 Pro...lol

I was really hoping they would do the etched glass on the back of the P7/P7P to be less slippery. I hate cases. I ended up putting a clear matte skin on the back of my P6 and really like it that way.

The only thing I miss about the Pixel is the camera. I'm currently using the S22+ and the camera lags whenever I open it. I love the UI and customization on One UI. I like having all Samsung devices now. They all integrate and communicate well together.

Yes, I will buy but I must ask, who at google is choosing the colours? Stevie Wonder? Apple are much better at giving colour options. I will have to go with white or "snow" as they are calling it.

Nope, keep rocking P6P. I Google makes the Fold, that will be a a different story

I'll probably be getting the pixel 7 pro. I got a 6a for $200 with trade in. Wanted to see if I liked the pixel. I'm really enjoying the 6a so the pro should be much better
