Just wanna know how you guys deal with the battery drain and poor signal problem.

Do you just ignore it? Or most of you guys RMA it until you get a perfect phone in this case, buzz sound, poor signal, and drain battery

For starters, I'm running an aokp PUB build with Krait/bionic (S4 Pro) optimizations and linaro optimizations with franco's latest kernel. I regularly get 4 to 5+ hours on screen time and way over a day's use (many days with less usage). That's syncing everything, gps/bt on (no matter really), but on wifi most of the day.Not many devices on the planet can do that and it's WAY more than I need it to do. That said, top scec'd devices are so fast they may as well focus on better battery life. Also, I've never had a signal problem and I usually rely on Google Voice/Groove IP to make/take calls using data so if the signal wasn't up to par I'd be the first to notice...even hiking the Appalacians. N4 + Tmobile prepaid = money saving BEAST.

I am very satisfied with the Nexus 4. This phone is faster, more fluid, and better looking than my old Galaxy Nexus LTE. Even better is not having to flash roms just to get updates, love being stock. Even with stock being less customizable, I enjoy not spending hours flashing, backing up, and so on.

Hours? C'mon rookie! I can clean flash and completely setup my phone exactly how it was on the Jon at work without being missed (I trade securities...). Just need to use tools like TiBU or MBP and your favorite launcher. Had it unboxed, unlocked/rooted, and all setup like my gnex in about 1/2 hour. Get your weight up:p

Just to update you what I have now. My phone never drop a call even with bad signal. I use GPS too, and never lost a connection. However, I do losing the network connection randomly when I surfing the

web or using app to read news or app that require a network connection. I live in Rockville, Maryland. I have no idea if this fault it's on T-mobile or Google. I talk to both of them, and they blame each other (No surprise here)

I went to T-mobile today in person, and ask the retailer, he said I'm the first one who complain about the bad signal for nexus 4. I feel like I just GOT BS lol. Anyway...

I already request a replacement. I might update this thread if the replacement is better than what I have now. I just want to figure out who cause the bad signal....T-mobile..or the phone..It's just hard to say

Not to pee in your cheerios, but it's almost DEFINITELY your carrier, aka Tmobile, certainly not Google. If it's defective hardware, which is unlikely but possible, it's LG's fault as the manufacturer. If I were you, I would've bought an ATT sim and see if you get better service before RMAing the device. I know MOST of Maryland is pretty rural or flat out boonies. I spend a lot of time between Boston and Newark, DE and haven't had any issues with Tmobile, and I'm used to Verizon's network, for what that's worth. People should note exactly where they have issues when compaining about a carrier so we know what to expect (like you did:).

I called T-Mobile the first day I noticed it. They did the usual, "what you imei and sim number along with turning it off and them provisioning the device" routine. No help so I gave up. I downloaded an app called Network Signal Pro, under $2, and it logs to csv what kind of signal I'm receiving(gsm,UMTS,HSPA+), and the signal dBm/ASU. Also what exact time each connection changes or drops.

I'm going to log a few days and call back to tech support with the logs. Hopefully its not the phone and just a crappy tower in my area. I'm also only receiving HSPA+ about 30% of the time when I'm definitely in an area they consider great 4G coverage. The other 70% I'm on EDGE with full service/bars.

I came from an Acer Liquid E... Yeah an Android phone running Android 2.1 that came out in April 2010... It's a HUGE upgrade and a HUGELY welcomed change.

When the N5 comes out and if it really is priced at around $100 I'll buy one for every member in my family (17).

These Nexus devices are great because it's just pure Android and you can do pretty much anything you like with it. It's almost as fast as my PC, if only it had 1.7GHZ Quad Core and 4GB of ram :( then I would ditch it in a heartbeat :D

So yes, I'm GREATLY SATISFIED with my N4 16GB.

Not everyone love to root and flash the Rom. I came from a rooted and I used to flash a lot of Rom, but I stop with this phone.

Sound like you are a huge Google fan! ME TOO! and I didn't blame on Google for my issue tho. In term of Hardware issue or T-mobile's issue. You didn't indicate why or why not. I'm not the only one with

T-mobile network, and complain about the poor signal. You can read more in this thread

[LOS] Frequent signal loss - Nexus 4 Support | T-Mobile

If the problem is the carrier, there will be tremendous more people complaining. In the thread I post, there is one person who got his perfect signal after the replacement. (If you read it, you will see it), and

he is certain it's the hardware issue because all he did is to change a phone, he did not change a carrier. Of course, there are some people still having the signal issue after the replacement, do you know

how the replacement work? You are not going to get a brand new phone. What you get from your replacement is the old phone that ppl RMA, and the RMA phone is fixed by the manufacture. It's most

likely about chances, and quality control. and I know exactly what my issues are

1. poor signal (without dropping call)
2. buzz sound when I click randomly
3. drain battery most likely cause by the poor signal.

If Google is so certain that the problem is carrier ( like you), then I won't be getting my replacement. They told me I should talk to both of the company (Google and T-mobile), and if you know how a

huge company roll in this world, the only answer you will get it's that Google is going to say T-mobile got some problem, and T-mobile will blame on Google. This is not a joke, this is just how the reality

is. If Google can not be so certain that the phone poor signal is cause by T-mobile, you shouldn't be so certain too....

My sister use T-mobile too, and I compared the signal side by side, my signal is weaker as well.

I consider myself lucky that my poor signal is not as severe as others. Also, why would I want to settle if my phone does not satisfy me?

Again, if you can go google about the nexus 4 signal issue, I'm not certain if it's the carrier or the LG hardware, but it's NOT Google.

Hours implied flashing one rom, not liking it, starting over and so on until finding one that I like, and what I need works. And then reflashing two days later, and before you know it I've spent 10 hours a week messing with a phone.

The only things I would change about the Nexus 4 are:

1. Add LTE
2. Better Camera

Thats it. I'm satisfied with it. Its been a great introduction to Android coming from iOS.

I'm definitely a big fan of Android, and of Google's general business practices, but I'm definitely not a blind fanboy. I've used about every platform at one time or another and there's strengths and weaknesses on all. I said it's certainly a possibility that your device is defective, but I would've tried an ATT SIM in the device or at the very least travel to the closest urban area (if possible) that is known to have a proper Tmobile signal before returning the device (assuming you weren't on Tmobile before). Just something you may want to keep in mind in the future. Hope you get it all straightened out! Every manufacuter has some quality control issues. It's just extremely frustrating and unfortunate when you end up being one of the unlucky few. Sammy had terrible QC issues with the gnex. Even worse, it seemed the defective devices where just reissued to someone else who RMA'd their device. So it seemed the "few" that had been unfortunate to get a defective gnex kept receiving "new" defective units. Fortunately, I haven't seen any posts of that nature regarding LG/the N4.

As for rooting/rom'ing, I totally understand that one of the beauties of Nexi is you really don't need to as far as updates, but there's more to it than that. I flash custom roms/kernels for the performance, battery, and very cool/useful features. You cannot touch the quantity or quality of developement available for AOSP/Nexi devices. I had CM10.1 on both my GS3 and LTE gnex at one point, and it was buttery smooth and stable with everything working on the gnex, not so with the GS3. I've only been on AOKP pub builds on my N4, but dozens of different ROMs on my gnex (tons of different builds). Generally speaking, they were all very stable or even more stable, much snappier, better on battery, and just worked "better" than stock. My gnex still felt snappy and "brand new" way after a year of owning it and I attribute that to always having new software to flash. Of course, the N4 will be the same, only much cheaper for me to own:D

Instead of changing carrier, or even drive to urban area...or even change a sim card...

I just got myself a replacement, and the signal issues are all solved..Call Google, and they send me a RMA link within 2 hours...and replacement is shipped the next day..and I got the replacement today...

No signal issue overall...No loose sound when shaking the phone..no buzz sound...I can follow all your step, and just end up with similar issues.

I just got mine today but I love it. Battery life so far is more than double my Galaxy Nexus which is fantastic, though I wouldn't complain if it were a bit thicker for an even larger battery. ;)

I'm satisfied with it as a PDA, as a phone, not so much. I'll try putting a custom ROM and kernel on it to see if that improves, but if not, I'll buy a Z10 as my phone and keep the Nexus 4 around for games.

Glass! Has anybody had problems with the glass? 12 days after receiving mine in the mail the back cracked. I DID NOT drop it AND had the bumper on. Called Google and they refused to help me. I always kinda thought that the Galaxy plastic seemed cheap, but now I see that it is functionally better in something you put in you pocket and carry around every day. Also miss not having to worry about power all the time, with my S2 swapping to the 2nd battery was great. My T-mobile signal is fine, now I hear about T-mobile getting LTE and I'm stuck without. Can only keep 2 to 3 nandroids or I'm out of memory. Other than that the N4 is great.

Pretty satisfied n4 owner here. The software experience is pretty much is exactly the same as the galaxy nexus. So I wasn't wowed by that.
When I owned both the galaxy nexus and the n4 and held the screen side by side, I actually preferred the gn screen. Sharper and more vibrant colors. Having sold the gnex, and having no other screen to compare, the n4 screen is fine.
Of course the n4 is way snappier and boots up in half the time. No lag when scrolling at all, which the gn had probs.

When I got the gn, I put having a nexus device at the top of the list for owning a phone. No manufacturer skin, pure android experience blah blah. Now after owning the n4 the 'owning a nexus device' has been relegated to second place. Now the number one feature in a phone for me is having a gsm unlocked device. Verizon sucked the life outta me. Sure their service is good but they are so expensive and you get stuck in a deathgrip contract. The amount of money I paid to them in my 2 year contract makes me cringe.
I am now contract free and on straight talk and saving boatloads of cash. I am happy.

BTW I am a total crackflasher and doing custom software on a nexus device is so painfully easy and rewarding, you non rom flashers should really try it.

Overall, very satisfied. Previous phone was Samsung GS3. Went to this as way to move to prepaid and reduce overall costs. Very happy with quality of design and software. At $349 for a 16 Gb, the value is incredible. Biggest complaint would be mediocre camera. Hope the next Nexus steps it up in that department.

I love flashing to. But the N4 is soo fast it is hard to improve on the stock ROM. Mostly its for tweaks and that kinda sucks. On my SGS2 roming ment improving performance. It just seemed funner to run a Nexus ROM or an Expiera on a Smasung device. So, what ROM are you running? I'm loving the "Baked" ROM with Franco kernel.

Hope you can update us with the result =], I will surely update my result after the replacement come, which is already shipped today =]

One week later, I'm still having issues with connectivity. I finally called T-Mobile back after not hearing from them in 72hrs like they said I would, and made it to their retention dept. I said I wanted to cancel due to me not receiving 4G in an area they say should have no problems at all.

The lady said she noticed a tech order noted on my account the last time I called and complained. She confirms there was/is an issue with the tower in my area and that it should be fixed by EOW. She also offered to take $5 off my bill for the next six months because of the tower issues. This better be resolved or I'm going to really furious.

I also complained about my 2G data counting towards my 4G data limit, which didn't really go anywhere.
