Are you still happy with the g4?

I don't know about ninja but I do appreciate the compliment!

And I agree...there's always tweaking with Android. Every phone I've had, even nexus devices, have been tweaked. Once it's running how I want it, then I'm usually done tweaking and just enjoying my phone. I almost always root as soon as it's available but not yet for the G4. It's running so well, I'm not sure it's needed just yet. Between Debloater Tool and access lock, I have about enough control as I need currently. If xposed and xprivacy makes its way to the G4, I'll probably pull the trigger then.

Do you have a link for the debloater tool?

Rooted today and all is going extremely well. Smoother and faster than ever on top of that complete control because of root, disable OTA and full control of apps even without root . Check out my reply here:

..Sent from an impeccable LG G4 on Verizon..

Here are pictures of my G4.

It has the Spigen Slim Armor on it after several near-drops. It has a black leather back, which I'll be posting a pic of soon.

According to my benchmark scores, it isn't as fast as my Motorola Droid Turbo was. However, in actual use, I don't see the difference in speed; it's quite fluid. Additionally, the extra .3 inches of screen while still being (reasonably) comfortable to hold (note that I have small hands at only 5 and half foot tall) and the much lighter weight are big plusses. I've been fortunate not to experience lag or heat issues, and while only owning for 7 days, I don't see me returning it for anything different.

Yes, I'm still happy to have the G4.

I've been looking to see what you had to say about it. I'm from the turbo forums but looking to possible switch.

From a pure hard perspective, you'll miss the battery and the native QI support (if you were using wireless charging). If you like the "heft" of a good phone in your hand, you'll miss that too. Although the difference on paper is minimal, the G4 feel very light in comparison, and some people don't like that. The curvature and rear button placement helps to contribute to a comfortable grip.

I've seen a lot of people complain about overheating and lag n the G4, so that should enter your thought process, however, I have experienced neither. My biggest gain was escaping the VZW pricing nightmare, and returning to Sprint where I have both a lower bill, and usually better customer service when needed. The G4 has allowed me to do this with no compromise, IMO. Micro SD, removable battery was a nice addition as well.

Honestly.... All problems disappeared on my device when I use the debloater tool to freeze almost all the tmobile apps.

Never seen carrier software hurt a phone as much as it appears to on this phone

After that... It runs amazingly

I didn't see a debloater tool that I could use without root. Haven't done a lot of research though. Help?

For just the occasional text and email, with careful cleaning of hog apps after use, it's possible (with the right circumstances and app usage) to get that much standby time. For your SOT, please check out some of the techniques discussed in the battery and access lock threads noted in the Common Issues and Solutions sticky; it's certainly possible to get 3.5 hrs of SOT out of a full charge (that's what I get), and 2 hrs of SOT is extraordinarily low. In particular, for you, I'd look at what sort of synching you've got going on, and also to do a "clear all" of your apps on a more frequent basis.

Yup.
- Whatever services I don't use, I turn off or disable.
- Aside from basic Google stuff like the store, I have no Google services - no hangouts etc
- Clear my open apps constantly
- I game on it maybe one hour a week.

It's pretty easy to get excellent battery life actually.

I don't know about the built-in gallery app, but with QuickPic you can click on the little circle showing the photo you've just taken, now you're in QuickPic, and you can then scroll through the rest of your photos. (I just tried this, and it works perfectly.)

Excellent. Just tried it and QuickPic does the job. I hadn't even thought of trying another gallery app. Thanks.

I have had my G4 for a bit more than a month. It's been good: battery lasts all day, camera takes great pictures, download speed with ac wireless is much, much faster than my G2 was. Also do not notice any lag, typing is smooth (except when my fingers don't quite touch the right key) and apps open quickly. So I have no complaints here. My phone is from Verizon, should that matter.

I had my G4 for one week before returning it back to T-mobile. Personally, I liked the feel and size of the device, the buttons on the back, and the camera. The negatives were the overheating issue (I am not a heavy gamer or user, but still did not enjoy having a hot device at times), the lag I was experiencing (sorry, just 1 week of use and having lag or problems with screen registering like with knock on....shouldn't be happening), and the battery was not holding up as well as it should be. I know with the battery I could have a backup and swap it out, but with the other issues I decided to make a quick decision, return it, use my nexus 5 and wait to see what the oneplus 2, the moto x, the note 5, and future nexus brings.

Did you try a factory reset before returning the device?

Mixed feelings about my Verizon LG G4. When it's running cool and battery life is decent, I'm a big fan. Love the size, form factor, screen, etc.. But when it decides to randomly start heating up and the battery starts to tank, I'm not too happy, and I start to get the wandering eye.

I can sympathize, my first Verizon G4 did a bunch of that.

But on my replacement, rather than just transferring all 130+ apps from my old phone, I installed just the ones I needed. And I haven't been seeing it randomly running hot.

I suspect that behavior is due to a software issue, and perhaps a "rogue" app, vs something inherent to the phone & OS.

Have you looked into whether a troublesome app or two are contributing to the problem?

I've factory reset several times and set up as a new device. I have minimal apps installed, and quite a bit of bloat disabled. No idea why it randomly runs hot. Seems to happen mostly when browsing though. If I could find a browser similar to Chrome that used less resources I'd be all over it. But they all look or operate strangely from what I've seen.

That's too bad, sorry. I've seen people complain about Chrome being a resource/battery hog. There's one thread about it right now.

But there are definitely options. I have Firefox on my phone as well, and for some sites it also just works better than Chrome. I do tend to use Chrome more often, not sure why, probably simply because I haven't replaced the Chrome shortcut at the bottom of the screen with Firefox :)

Opera and Dolphin are two others that get mentioned. I used to use Opera on my PC, haven't tried it on a phone.

I just started trying out CM Browser, it's supposed to be small and efficient.

There's also #NoChromo, developed by someone on XDA. It's a modified version of Chrome that blocks ads. The no-ads part sounds nice.

There are a lot of articles like this, but one example of a comparison of current browser options:
Best Android browsers, 2015 edition: speed, features, and design
