AT&T HOX Update!!

I still can't get the update...

Am I doing something wrong? I go to Settings>AT&T Software Update>Check for update.

It says checking for new software but I get nothing.

Called AT&T and the CSR said ,You have to do the update over WiFi connection. My partner is trying the last 3 days and he's going to try again tomorrow at work as we don't have WiFi @ home.:D

Where my update? I remember when I used to check for an update it would say there is no update if there was none or that my phone had the lates update. Then it would say I cannot check for updated for 24 hrs. Now it checks for an update and nothing happens I don't get any message and the message box "checking for update" disappears and back to "check for updates". And I can keep trying to check for updates with no messages saying I can't check for another 24 hrs. I tried on WiFi and 4g also tried rebooting and nothing.... My phone is bone stock... Wonder if just did not receive the update yet or if there is an issue? Anyone experiencing this any works around?????

I had the exact same problem and contacted ATT (there is another thread somewhere here about that). I was told that HTC notified ATT on July 31 that there was a known problem w/ the update and that some phones would not be able to updat OTA. You need to do it from HTC's website and make sure to follow the instructions. BTW your phone will be reset to it's factory settings and all data lost so back up. I did this today and all went fine and the update is doing what it was supposed to.

Got the update this evening. Everything working as reported here. Has the same chrome issue.

HTC Smartphones and Tablets - Support for HTC Cell Phones and Tablets
select HTC One X from the drop down menu and click GO
Look on the left side for the software updates link
read the link w/ specific intructions about dl the link that was released 8.2.12
Make sure to first have HTC sync manager installed (this is different than HTC sync).
dl the file and follow the on screen instructions.
I was cautioned to turn of my screen saver and adjust hibernation settings so nothing will interupt the install.
Oh yea, phone is connected to PC but the instructions covers this.
whole process takes about 10-15 minutes and the phone works better than before so the imho the factory reset is OK

Yahoo mail app is broken with the new update. Once you open an email you don't get any options for replying, deleting etc.

This update fixed my wifi connectivity problem; the link used to get dropped one every 2-3 minutes even standing next to my access point at home and work -- now the connection is rock steady as long as I have a signal. The menu workaround is a nice touch, too.

Not so on mine, I use what I changed to now be a menu button and those options come up.

Sorry, didn't realize I needed to push the menu button twice. Works fine now.

New owner of the ATT HOX and ive been reading about bugs and what not of this phone, especially wifi. I bought the phone 8/3/12 and got the update as soon as i turned it on for the first time. same software version and running 4.0.4 now.

Still having problem with wifi staying on. when i turn on the phone from sleep, i would see that the icon for wifi would go in and out and while thats happening i would not get any data go through (wont even use 4g lte). This only happens for about 5 seconds and after that data would be fine. I guess it was worse reconnecting before.

Settings are use wifi boost on and at always on when the phone goes to sleep. Thats what i found so far as far as bugs or problems.....will write back if i find more.

this whole thing with the menu button now overlayed to the recent apps button is just an arguement to bring back the capacitive menu button that used to be at the bottom of all android devices.

Always wondered why they did away with that as i found it useful.

What would be the easiest way to go about updating this to 4.0.4 without Windows? I can't get it to work with the OTA as it says it is up to date.

Press for menu. Hold for recent apps

I am exactly opposite - press for recent apps - hold for menu. Before this fix, I have moved towards more apps that satisfy my needs that don't have the menu button (i.e. menu is integrated in the app's interface). And, I use the recent apps button to switch between tasks all the time - way more often than accessing settings from some apps.

Osho

Same here. As far as I can tell, it's a 'recent apps' button first 'menu' button second.

Now Faster & Smoother!

So, am I the only one who hasn't gotten the update yet? I'm rooted, would that effect it? I've been checking for the update for a few days now.

Most definitely. Rooting prevents and/or books updates. Try going back to stock, unroot and update if the update is that important. Remember that update breaks root though.
