AT&T LG G2: excessive battery drain

Re: at&t only battery drain?

I will probably try the empty/full scheme, but I'm curious about one thing...once you drained your battery down to zero, how many hours did it take you to charge it to 100% while phone was off? Last night I turned my G2 off and plugged in the charger. In 8 hours, it only charged 70%! Once I turn it on and started charging, it began recharging normally. That's why I want to know how long it takes to go from 0 to 100...while phone is off.

I wanted to post here again on this since my scenario of my phone dying when I got to work happened. Since I had this conversation going, I made a note of when I plugged it in and when I first saw the green light indicating a full charge. Plugged it in at exactly 10:30 and Saw the green light at 12:27. Exactly 2 hours to charge full.

Re: at&t only battery drain? ATT

I experienced the same as several other users: first couple weeks I had incredible battery life which would last somewhere around 48 hours before I'd hit any low battery indication. Soon thereafter, the drain started. I'm a very light user - some texting, emails, and maybe 20 minutes of talk each day - and would start each workday at 100%. By 8pm each night, I would be +/- 10% battery and having to charge before bedtime. I tried all the changes routinely noted in these threads about the G2 with very little change in battery life.

I did the factory reset wiping the phone clean, and started from scratch. Now the phone's back to that sweet spot. I'm seeing very little drain. It's 1pm and I'm at 97%.

Re: at&t only battery drain? ATT

Just to add to my earlier comments, only one night, but my phone did not lose battery last night when I brought it home. Did not do anything differently, but perhaps it was because I accidently let the phone die before charging. Not sure if this was the reason or not, but thought I would share.

Re: at&t only battery drain? ATT

The battery on my G2 has always charged very quickly. Using the LG charger and cable it takes about 1 hr. and 40 min. to charge from 20 - 100%.

I have never experienced significant battery drain issues. Even though I was getting good battery life (18- 20 hrs, 5.5 hrs screen on time), I wanted to see if I could make it beyond 24 hrs. After rooting I disabled carrier IQ, froze bloatware (AT&T and LG), and used Greenify to hibernate some apps. Now I get great battery life (24-48 hrs, 7.5-10 hrs. screen on time). I'm currently at 73% after 18.5 hrs. (2.75 hrs. screen on).

Re: at&t only battery drain? ATT

I just went on a chat with LG and they said it is not a common issue, when clearly everyone on this forum is having it (including me). They also said there is no update currently. I know this is asking a lot, but everyone try chatting with LG. If they see enough of the same issue, maybe they'll try to fix it :)

Re: at&t only battery drain? ATT

Have you tried installing the new Google Play Services? Suppose to help battery life. I haven't had any battery issues but would notice once in a while it drain faster some days. Havent noticed a big improvement with the update... but maybe a little.

Re: at&t only battery drain?

About leaving it on all night... I did that at first, even though the salesman (Costco) told me to turn it off while charging. I thought he was wrong, but I read some technical articles from Battery University and learned that he isn't. They say that it is not good to leave a lithium-powered device on after full charging (doesn't matter whether it's lithium-ion, lithium-poly, etc - that's just packaging, and they are essentially the same). The reason is that there is a trickle charge when it's full, and if the device is on, it triggers this trickle charger to go on and off too often, which stresses the battery. They also say it's better for the battery to charge it to slightly less than full.
I have an AT&T LG G2 (stock) that is one month old. The first couple of weeks the battery life was outstanding, but in the last week or so, I was always at around 12% at the end of the day, with very light usage. Connected to Wi-fi all day, auto-sync on, bluetooth off. I had been charging the phone overnight, but leaving it turned on. After reading your post, I turned the phone off when I put it on the charger for the night. Today after 10 hours so far, I'm at 86% on the battery. A HUGE improvement, and pretty much what I was getting the first couple of weeks. Thank you!

Re: at&t only battery drain?

I hope this doesn't happen to me but for the less than a week I've had mine, this hasn't been a problem. I haven't had a problem with long charge times and I turn off everything not in use as often as possible.

Man. I tell you guys it's a hit or miss. With iq disabled I always have Bluetooth on and the rest. I can get great battery life for a few weeks and then it goes to massive drain with moderate use. And always when I need the great battery this phone has proven to me is when it goes into stupid drain mode. For example, this phone is my alarm sometimes I go to bed and not charge. Mostly if I'm at my girls place and at 40% I feel confident it will be ok to wake me up the next morning. 2 nights ago same situation I was at my girlfriends place I was at about 40%, checked my alarm but asked her to set hers to in case because she wasn't working and I had to get up. Well i ended up waking up to my phone totally dead off and hers woke me up. Thank god I was thinking about a back up because if I counted on this phone at 40% on idle for maybe 5 hours I would have never woken up.

My main point is when this phone is good after 15 hours of moderate to heavy use I still get home with 50% , then at at times for a few days in a row crazy drain with no use.

Sorry for the long rant but I seriously think a patch is needed. I'm 80% and I've been at work since 8am now it's almost 12. What's up with the phantom drain????

Don't worry, just add one app at a time and use the phone for a few days to observe that happens. These G2 are flawless, but users muck them up like any other smartphone out there.!

I had a similar problem, but not as severe battery loss. Sounds like you may have a wakelock issue. Try wakelock detector to see if some apps are waking the CPU. Poor signal can also rapidly drain the battery.

Dude I have tried everything and started from scratch 6 Times. There is no rhyme or reason. I have minimum apps. The bottom line is no consistency. When I really need the battery to rock it fails 8 out of 10 times. And on days I just check it out Its doing fine. I can't trust it. Thank God I have a car charger

Re: at&t only battery drain?

I had a iPhone 3GS for like 4 years (crazy, I know) and up until the day I finally swapped phones the thing would still last at least 1 1/2 days, often more. The day I brought the G2 home from AT&T, with no additional apps or crazy use (maybe hour or two total voice, 20 minutes browsing per day) it would be down its last juice in 12 hours. If I fall asleep without putting it on charge I won't get my alarm to wake me up because it is dead. It simply cannot take a day of little use and make it through the night without charge.

I don't own anything else Apple and hate the idea of owning an Apple phone but they made a phone 5 years ago that is still more functional in terms of the core competencies (talk, text, battery... maybe not so much the browser in comparison) than this G2 I have. I could care less about how fast it is if can't make it through the night occasionally without charge or a number of other annoying or lacking features that from what I gather seem to be unique to the G2 droid stack.

Did you read through this thread and have you done any of the recommended tweaks?
I vary anywhere from a light to heavy user (depending on the day), and I have been amazed at how well the G2's battery lasts.
It certainly has more battery than an iPhone 3!

Re: at&t only battery drain?

I noticed that if I reboot the phone in the morning after pulling it off the charger and killing the IQ service I get awesome battery life. For example, right now I'm at 42% battery with 36.5 hours off charger and over 3 hours of screen time. I have auto brightness set to 65%, Bluetooth and NFC are both off.

I am on WiFi majority of the time and have a pretty decent signal throughout the day. I have push email for my personal gmail account and my work exchange account. I do not sync Facebook and I do not have the weather widget running. I seem to experience battery drain with the default weather widget so I just use Timely widget as my default clock. Instead of accuweather I use Weather Bug and have it set to notify for severe alerts.

Re: at&t only battery drain?

Hey guys, I had battery problems in the past and took some steps to improve that and had much success. I typically expect 58-65 hours of use on a charge. I left for work this morning with around 70% (usually enough to last me two days). I've made two phone calls, looked at twitter and instagram once today, and I just checked the time, and saw my battery icon in orange. It's at 13% now, losing somewhere around 8-10% an hour and not on pace to get me through the day. I have no idea what I did to trigger the nose dive in batter life. It wasn't an gradual loss either. There is a distinct point where the battery started to go. I'm just baffled as to what caused that point. Any thoughts? GPS is off, WIFI is off (neither have ever been on unless I needed GPS for something). Thanks! Here's a pic:

It happens to me every few weeks or so for a couple days. I think I'm getting poor signal sometimes. Any specific app draining most of the power? I would just reboot and kill iq. Works most of the time.

I haven't done anything out of the norm for me. I hardly have any apps on my phone, and haven't opened any new ones that I haven't used. I've had two G2s now because of battery problems. I killed IQ on the first and it never really fixed it. I don't think I ever killed it on the second phone. I just left WIFI off and never charged the phone while it still had juice or was on and that worked great. Just so random.

Re: at&t only battery drain?

It still happens to me sometimes, and I still haven't figured it out. In fact it just happened this morning, as seen in the attached shot. This time though, I knew exactly what I was as I could track back on the time line. My alarm had gone off, and like every morning, I picked up the phone and checked the market and other news headlines on the web. That's it.

As always a reboot stopped the excessive drain.uploadfromtaptalk1392264642836.jpg
