Cool. Thanks again to checking!
It is only for adding a line or new lines. Not upgrades. Oh well.

Get up to $1000 off an eligible Samsung Galaxy smartphone when you add a new line or upgrade an existing line.
That is directly from the AT&T page. I'm going to call AT&T and make sure that I am covered, otherwise I will be stuck with my Note 9...
I'm confused. When I was in today asking about this. They offer this$1000 credit on the 30 month installment and the ATT next up installment with the 15 month upgrade for$5 extra a month. I'm going back tomorrow to make sure. For example if you try to pay it off after 15 months they will charge you 500 extra.
If you do next up you can hand the phone back in 15 months in good condition and upgrade to a new phone with financing and it will wipe out the rest of the 15 months in payments. Did anyone else get their email confirming the order and it showed the regular monthly payment for the note 20 ultra of $43 or $48?
Yes I think your view is correct. In my experience be prepared to wait. ATT can take several months to start the credits.
I just canceled and did it through rakuten, and you get an instant $150 into your paypal account once you purchase it extra as long as you go through their site. Woot!
Hmm, I did that but not immediately credit back to your Paypal. They normally send check quarterly.
This $1000 off is too good to pass up. My order is in.
It's not like Verizon is doing enough good for existing customers unless you add a line so kudos to ATT..
It's rare for all carriers to give incentives to current customers.
