I believe Tmo throttles your speed after a certain amount. In Indiana Tmo's coverage is not good so If you do any traveling around your state I would definitely compare maps carefully first.

If you have the fully unlimited plan they won't throttle on a hard cap (such as after a certain amount).

My area rarely sees congestion and I use a lot of data.

T-Mobile is more than aware that they have limited coverage therefor they need to make their promotions, etc. as appealing as possible.
I agree that they have more than raised the bar on Promo's, options, etc. but if the phone don't work.....well, there it is.
I am on Verizon and dislike a lot of what they do but I cannot recall the last time I did not have coverage (signal) and I travel all over the country as well as Canada. Pick your poison.....

Important is whether it gets good service where you need it. Service can vary greatly even in the same building.

This depends on the area though. I get consistent service in my area w/ T-Mobile and can still use photo + data at the same time like AT&T since it uses GSM like AT&T.

There is wi-fi calling (which includes sms/mms). I travel all over the US and no problems with T-Mobile coverage. Recently I was in the CA high desert when I didn't have a signal the wi-fi calling came in handy. I must be a risk taker

But I really like how T-Mobile does business so I may not be objective.

I'll clarify before people continue to fail to understand my statement and make cute responses.
If you are happy with your current provider I wouldn't risk the change just to save a few bucks. T-Mo has a test drive option, take advantage of that and hope that your AT&T rates will be the same should it not be a good fit for you. Service is subjective. there willbe varied opinions based on their usage, where they use their device and coverage which may be vastly different from yours, even if in the same area.

One thing for sure is T-Mobile today is not T-Mobile of the past. Their business plan has been very successful at taking customers from At&t & Verizon. If they succeed in making those people happy their customer base will continue to grow. This will only make service better for everyone no matter what carrier you choose.

Let's hope a couple of the other minor carries are able to make as big strides.

They do not throttle. They do data prioritization. If you are in the top 1 or 2% of users in terms of data consumption and you are in an area of congestion, your data will be de-prioritized and temporarily slowed. Here in DFW where capacity usually isn't an issue, we use around 20GB a month just on my wife's line as our daughter watches youtube on my wife's phone constantly on the drive to and from school and we have yet to experience any slow down. AT&T and VZW when they offered unlimited data had the same terms in their TOS at the time but in some cases would completely cut you off if they felt you were abusing the service.

Just out of curiosity where did you get that map from? That would be a welcomed upgrade. I made the switch to T-Mobile from Verizon last Friday. Did the test drive for seven days and overall was very pleased. Yes there are dead spots and the signal is definitely not as strong as Verizon in areas as it can literally change from 1 inch to the next. I have traveled to a few locations in the last week where Verizon service was very spotty and surprisingly Tmobile's was excellent. I have one more week to try it. Tmobile is running a 14 day guarantee when you first sign up. If you don't like it within those 14 days you can return to your old carrier they'll take all the equipment back and everything for no fee. And I believe that applies to AT&T as well.

I'll hang on to my 2 for $100 unlimited data and hope their projected end of 2015 coverage map is correct.

The coverage maps are - at best - guessed at. Believing them is like believing in fairy tales (because they are fairy tales). I'm in a maybe 2G/maybe 3G AT&T area and get solid 4G all the time. My daughter is dead in the middle of a Sprint solid 4G area and we can't even get 2G inside her house (no calls or text at all), but AT&T and Verizon cover even the basement with no problem.

As a dealer, there was an entire village nearby that Nextel showed as solid coverage - and we all knew that the only way to use a Nextel phone there was to leave it in the next town and wire a handsfree to it. Even the Nextel rep warned dealers to not sell Nextel to anyone that might want to use the phone there - it made Nextel look bad. But the map said ...

I've learned not to take the maps with a grain of salt, but to use them as brand indicators - pink is TMobile, red is Verizon - that's about the only thing they're good for - on Straight Talk packages. As an indicator of coverage you might as well cast runes or flip coins.

No way. I've used all carriers and T-Mobile is the best bang for your buck. No throttling on the unlimited plans. If you're in a T-Mobile area then go for it. You can't lose. They will pay off your current plan. And if you don't like them then simply go back to your preferred carrier no love lost since there's no commitments.

I live in LA and tmobile gets bad service at certain spots at both my home and work, whereas Verizon is much much better. I know many people who are happy with tmobile, but it is not necessarily true that tmobile will work great in large cities where you need it.

Btw this is true of any Carrier, even Verizon. I know spots in LA where Verizon is weak,but tmobile is stronger. Cell signal is very dependent on the specific location

Thanks for all the replies.....after much consideration, the wife and I decided to stay with At&t. We crunched the numbers and At&t is the best fit for us. We both don't use a lot of data only because where ever we go, there is WiFi coverage that we can access, and the ability to have a strong signal out of state is huge, i.e. McCall, Idaho.

Going to the store today to pick up a LG G4, hopefully they have it in stock, I will call ahead to make sure. Anyways, I can't wait to get this phone, I hardly slept last night. I'm upgrading from a HTC one M7.

I agree w you as I have 4 lines with att. Customer for over 10 years and tried them all as well.
I heard T-Mobile improved in my area so when I needing a new line with lots of data for work, I signed up to test.
Huge difference from 1 yr ago. They launched 700 MHz in several metro's and I can't believe the service and downloads. Super impressed.
I also like that they don't brand and junk up there devices as much as att...ver.

Key for anyone is to research 700 deployment and do the 14 day trial.

I left T-Mobile after many years with them, for actually worse service at my house with AT&T.

I left for one single reason, Customer Service and I've never looked back.

I left AT&T for several reasons. I am in the Dallas area and would recommend T-mobile over all other carriers.
Reasons I left ATT, and my family will be switching soon as well:
Price, and Customer service (last 2 years wtih AT&T have been pretty bad in terms of Customer service, lots of random fees/bills for no reason and overpriced).
They tried to rip me off, wasn't having it plus my internet/calls/gps had been messing up for last 2 years. Buffering constantly, slow internet, issues making calls.

It seems in Dallas AT&T has too many customers for their network, so it's not great. In fact none of the carriers but T-mobile/Verizon can provide a good reliable service. Verizon is only marginally better for nearly twice the price. So the choice is simple in Dallas.

So I'm due for an upgrade soon on At&t and 100% going with a G4. Only thing is t-mo has a promotion running for a unlimited plan (data/talk/text) and that's very intriguing for my wife and I because it's cheaper, than our current At&t plan.

Now how are the two services compared to each other? Data speeds, voice quality, service strength etc.... I live in the SF bay area, if that helps.

Go with AT&T. TMo doesn't work very well (or at all) when you leave a larger city.
