Aug 11th "Official" Release Date?

The playbook I have is from 8-4 and it most certainly has a calendar and 'epic launch day' on the 11th, which is where BGR got there tip. Pics later if possible, just not right now. Sorry.

Having said that, its almost as if it was included on the calendar as a mistake or if 'epic launch day' somehow means something besides the actual launch date since there is ZERO other mention of it.

Also, some employees are attending an epic training on the 10th, where they will presumably be given the phone (a la the EVO), so I guess that lends a little credence to the 11th date as well.

If y'all are right, then I would like to retract my previous statement:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

However, if ya'll are wrong, then I firmly stand behind this statement.

Why is there such confusion about it being in the playbook? I've read at least 5 people say they saw it with their own eyes and another 5 say it's not there. How is it possible for so many to read it differently? Are there different versions? Was it retracted?

This makes sense in every way... except there's no marketing! The buzz is only among us geeks. What are they going to accomplish by releasing a day before the Droid 2 if nobody knows they're releasing a day before the Droid 2?

Unless... is there some sort of big event this weekend that millions of people will be watching? They could unveil it big time then.

They could advertise during the preseason game or even just throw a few commercials up during the weekend and it would create enough hype. Granted people wont be salavating for weeks like we have been, but thats a decent enough hype for a launch sprint style.

Is it possible they might be trying a soft launch due to low inventory? That is, get the device out to us geeks quickly, then build up the hype once inventory levels build up (and Droid 2 hype dies down)?

To be honest, I'm a bit skeptical of that date, but if it means a sooner release, then I won't complain :)

(Quietly hoping Sprint Marketing pulls out something jaw-droppingly amazing or ballsy or both over the weekend)

I doubt they would give a bunch of phone geeks the premier like this, but man I would LOVE for it to happen. An 11th launch, while highly unlikely IMHO, would be absolutely perfect for me as the 12th I go out of town and it would be awesome to take the trip with a working phone.

Looks like the playbook has been edited. I have a pic of the hard copy though.

So looks like it was a boo boo on sprints part.

Could this be the reason that we aren't seeing any advertising?

Switched On: The Galaxy S paradox -- Engadget

Could be. The only carriers I see profiting alot are tmobile and sprint. Sprint will and should use the epic as thier flagship device that stomps the droid 2 and tmobile should use their galaxy phone for an iphone killer. Verizon does have most of their efforts into the moto droids and att well they are so far up apples you know what that they cannot see how to properly price a droid phone to make it competitive.

The speculated released date has changed so much, I was told by a sprint rep that no later than beginning of August and probably around July 20th. I don't see the epic coming out soon and frankly I think that sprint is right now making a bad judgement call.

Just got off the phone with 888-BEST-BUY which is the corporate number...The phone is up for preorder at SELECT stores and has been since the 3rd of this month. They will be in stock on the 11th , i had him double check it to make sure. He knew exactly what i was talking about and was really excited about the phone himself. He did not know whether or not the phone would only be available at select stores only on the 11th or nationwide...call yourself if you dont believe it

BGR: Samsung Epic 4G launching August 11th, Sprint stores to open early? ? Boy Genius Report

BGR: One of our Sprint sources has just given us a heads up that the Samsung Epic 4G will be released on Sprint on August 11th…The source goes on to say that this information is located in the Sprint playbook, and some stores will be opening at 8:00 AM on launch day to meet expected demand. August 11th, one day before the reported DROID 2 launch and the BlackBerry Torch 9800 launch… who is planning on purchasing an Epic 4G?
