Aug 11th "Official" Release Date?

When I read official I thought Sprint made an announcement. This is far from official.

Just got off the phone with 888-BEST-BUY which is the corporate number...The phone is up for preorder at SELECT stores and has been since the 3rd of this month. They will be in stock on the 11th , i had him double check it to make sure. He knew exactly what i was talking about and was really excited about the phone himself. He did not know whether or not the phone would only be available at select stores only on the 11th or nationwide...call yourself if you dont believe it

If true, I'm calling Best Buy a little later tonight.

If so- that's a terrible strategy- I've been to multiple stores and they don't know anything about a preorder program, launch date or pricing...reminds me a lot of the pre launch- only advantage of THAT- was it was on the weekend- having this on Wednesday really sucks- (need to take time off of work on an UNCONFIRMED hunch?)

Sprint never launches phones on Wednesday. Normally it's Sunday.

Pre launched on Saturday.

Preorders for the Epic 4g will be available starting tomorrow for Sprint Premier Customers and on Friday for everyone else.

All you had to do was check other forums which have been slowly leaking info much faster than Androidcentral and Engadget

I'm hoping that what really happened was that Sprint was this close to announcing everything then something terrible, horrible, badnasty happened and they had to scrap their plans at the last minute.

I say "hoping" because otherwise there really is a high level of dysfunction going on at Sprint and/or Samsung.

So Mr. Newman, are you thinking their prediction is flawed? You seem to have a pretty good grasp on things. I'm curious of your personal opinion.

So, this is my personal take on it. Samsung is ready to get this thing going full steam ahead... they are absolutely ready. Sprint isn't; and won't ever be for any device people actually want (e.g. Pre, Evo). They aren't sure on how to deliver this phone with advertising / current Evo conditions.

Now, as far as a date goes... that's anyones guess at this point. The advocates have not gotten their phones and let's face it, don't need them to launch a phone. Put two units on display in each store and you've got the phones to sell themselves (plus it's Android, the companies 5th device which means their store reps SHOULD be able to demo the simple crap). All of the dates we've heard (July 29th, Aug 1, Aug 11, Aug 20-22) have probably been all thrown around Sprint corporate at one point or another (hence the confusion); yet none have been locked in firmly.

This is one of the more hostile silly season's I've ever been a part of though.

I can confirm the PRE-ORDER since August 3rd line. However, upon calling 3 different times (hey, I work for AC, I like to make sure I am right), 2 confirmed that they think it's the 20th but don't have anything in the computer about it. While the 3rd said they can't speculate on dates and have no idea when it'll be out.

Well just to add to the confusion (since there isn't already enough misinformation out there)... I just called Best Buy's 1888 number and got a rep. She said the release date is Aug 20th, but there's no preorder list. She "suspects" the launch price will be $199. I know I'm pretty new here, so there's no reason to really trust what I say, but that's my experience calling BB about 20 minutes ago.

Hell, it could even be released in October and it would be less infuriating if Sprint were to just come out and say, "Look, something's f*cked. The last intern who used the Epic had it explode in his pants and now he can't find one of his balls, so the phone went back to the FCC. We expect October." Because at least they'd be saying something.

Sprint rep has a ballbusting headache of Epic proportions.

And to Dre3001 who asked if I was "all right" due to my frustration fueled rant...I'm so glad today's news cleared everything up so we can see how I've blown this all out of proportion.

CLEARLY, we've all successfully preordered our phone, and know where to buy, for how much, line up on which day...

I can't wait for the Epic launch ... on April 1st. Do you think it'll ship with Gingerbread?

I've always been under the impression that Sprint tries to release phones before the VZ and AT&T. Hence why you almost always end up with shortages...

sprint does big launches Friday Saturday aka pre instinct and evo. Normal releases Sundays. August 11th was just photo shopped in and scammed a bunch of websites. Usually training is 2 weeks before launch... so 20th sounds good
