This check just got a hands-on yesterday with an Epic. With a BETA Epic.

I can't even come up with a BS reason for them to make her do a hands-on with a beta handset if this phone was coming out next week. Hell, I can't imagine that it's even coming out this *month* if they're unable to offer the press a final-version handset. Hell, she's in New York (said so in the comments). You'd think that they would give press in New York access for a complete phone...

My thoughts? Samsung let them have a hands on, not Sprint. So Samsung has to call it a beta so they don't get into trouble with Sprint for giving out a phone that early for review. IMO.

Has anyone else thought it strange that all this soonish release talk is going on and the official Epic 4g site only has one of 3 videos active. The other two are still "coming soon". Seems to me that those would be uploaded before any release date and I doubt that both videos will be uploaded to the site on the same day.

Yeah, but the phone didn't even have programed radios... there was no cell signal!

I just don't understand why everyone gets so upset that this phone isn't being released when they want it to be. It will get released when sprint and samsung are ready to release it plain and simple.

Its not gettign upset perse, rather impatience as the phone should have released a while ago and alot of us have very broken phones waiting to upgrade.

I don't understand why people keep saying this. We're not mad it's not out, we're mad that nobody in Samsung or Sprint will say anything about a release date, even though it's clear Samsung is itching to pull the trigger.

Again, it's not that the phone isn't out, it's that we don't know anything about the release date.

Agreed.

Samsung is obviously ready for the phone to be released. It's evident that Sprint is the one who keeps changing their minds at this point. That's what is aggravating. I'm pretty sure Samsung would have preferred a mass release across all 4 carriers at once. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Now Sprint is faced with two contenders that are about to hit the market. They urgently need to do something.

If sprint were smart they would release it the 11th. But then again sprnt marketing isnt smart and therefore sprint isnt the #1 carrier even though they have had some of the best exclusive phones in the past 10 years.

First off there is no proof right now as to who is at fault. Untill then we should just sit back and be patient. I know that is easier for some than others but we all should just try.

If my phone was working fine and they told us any date (even one far far away) I would be content. Until then I will speculate.

That is like saying all evo commercials and sprint.com ads will come out before its released.

Spoke w/ a rep at the OP Kansas Campus store (Headquarters)... so take this with a grain of salt, but she said that they HAVE been trained on the Epic. She said that the latest she has been told is that it will probably not launch until Sept., but they did not give her an exact Sept. date. She also put me on hold to check on pre-order, then stated that they are not going to have a list until the release and then run out of stock in which case this will be another EVO type scenario w/ a waiting list.

Just passing along what I have heard.

I'm losing faith that we'll see a "summer" release. Saturday my 30 days with my EVO are up so it's back to my old pre. The good news is at least gaming on a pre doesnt look like windows 95 frame rates.

Decent read, but I didnt like the more screen real estate comment as both phones have the same resolution.

in reply to Phonedog's review...

SERIOUSLY? NOW they review a BETA phone with no access to cell or wifi- this gives us no new information beyond the hands on impressions posted a MONTH ago by other websites.

These sort of reviews prove that people are buying phones now more than ever based on hardware rather than the phone functional software (SMS, contacts, calendar, dialer) which scares me.

Todays smartphone requires alot of hardware, and while Ill agree there needs to be a point where enough is enough (2.0GHz CPu phones?!?! Thats more pulses then my workstation!!!). As long as they can get a day or more from a conditioned battery and do the things I need Ill be happy. But once the phone starts getting the battery life of a normal laptop or things get laggy doing basic stuff then we have a problem.

Take it with a brain of salt but I walked into 2 different corporate stores in the Seattle area and asked about a sale date on the Epic. Both said Aug 11th and they were not doing pre-order.

Again, we all know how much store reps are in the know but I was pretty surprised to get the same info without hesitation from 2 corp. stores 25 miles apart.

It is just really hard to believe that Sprint is going to release a phone in 5 days without even a hint of advertising or announcement. Here's to hoping I am SO wrong!

I have actually seen an ad on my msn homepage. When you click it it takes you to the sprint page where you sign up to be notified. I guess that's a bit of progress. Seems like the same ad space trades off between the Epic and the EVO.

I have seen actually a lot of epic ads around the web in the past few days so I think sprint might try advertising only online. I mean where do you go to find out about a phone other than the sprint store?

BGR and sprint are doing a video segment next week addressing the Epic. Hopefully they will give a release date then. My guess is it doesnt launch the 11th since they are doing the interview the same week

I can't imagine that BGR means enough to anybody for that to have any effect on the release date, or to even be affected by the release date. They just know that us nerds are all over this phone and they'll get tons of traffic.

im not saying they are affecting the date just saying we may get an answer

If they're really launching the phone on the 20th, I think Sprint is doing a big mistake by not releasing more details in a timely matter. With at least 20 days prior to launch, they could've launch a good marketing approach and build momentum to Epic's release date.

I honestly don't think it matters. Look at the Droid 2. It's pretty much definite that it's coming out on the 12th and there hasn't been ANY mention of it other than online in rumor form.
