The EVO's screen is not made by Samsung though, so if this kind of battle is going on it would lend itself to the delay of the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon (HTC Incredible does feature an AMOLED screen produced by Samsung.)

The HTC screens are made by Samsung. Just because it isn't AMOLED doesn't mean Samsung isn't making them; they produce LCD as well.

I see. From forum posts regarding the EVO, I was under the impression that the EVO's screen was made by Epson and Novatel.

Ah, you're right.. EVO uses Epson and Novatel. I even corrected someone about that on another forum! D'oh.

That was conjecture anyway. It sounds like the real delay is 'final testing'.. and has it even passed the FCC yet?

As best I can tell, Android and Me were the first to report and I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary:

Fair enough, I've taken apart 3 of them so far.

I've noticed one screen has two ribbon connections while the other has 3.

Obviously couldn't do the intended swap.

First, guys, let's not get off topic here. This thread is about the Epic 4g's release date, not the Evo's screen. Second, I had no luck emailing them. They just say that they can't give me the info because they don't want to give "false information," so I can't back up any of the rumored dates. Somebody might have better luck by calling them for more information. Besides, that's how we got the July 28th rumored release date.

Talk about a soft launch! Releasing a phone in 12 days a NO announcement? Sounds like product suicide.

No better way to NOT sell a phone than zero hype and ads until it hits the market. I'm really hoping for some form of presale as I refuse searching store by store day of launch.

When I was at the sprint store last the representative said they were probably going to launch the epic no later than the beginning of august. A major reason why they are waiting is because the intercept was released less than a week ago and they don't want to confuse customers unfamiliar with smartphones. That's what he said in a nutshell.

Really?! You don't want a silly season thread to get off topic?! Gimme a break. It's a moot point thread and we are passing time. You can guess in one hand and crap in the other and see which one gets filled up first... simmer down.

Secondly, we were speculating the delay of the Evo's hardware possibly having something to do with the Evo and Samsung being a possible supplier. IT wasn't like we went off on a tangent without merit. Truth is, if you want hard facts, you won't get them from a forum thread like this. It's all speculation and good fun.

I just got this on my facbook page not too long ago so I went to the Sprint website and searched Samsung Epic and I was able to sign up to be notified - so you know what that means - it's coming soon.....and I can't wait

Did you guys not see my EVO Post... I got trolled a lot for it. The new DOWNGRADED Evo screen " " ... I was the firsto n sight to report the nova vs epson 002-003 models....

People hated me for it. hahaha.


By the way that update on the sprint site has been up forever..... But you'll be one of the last to know when it has a date haha.. People tend to get informaton here first!

Nevertheless, I think some of the advertising is free for sprint because the whole line of galaxy s phones are being promoted by other vendors/carriers already. The Epic won't need AS MUCH advertising as something like the Evo.

Dang, CALM DOWN. I come from waaay stricter forums than this, so I was assuming that we have to stay on topic for each thread or a mod will do something about it. Please, talk about whatever the heck you want, but I'm an Android Newbie for a reason

what a lucky guy....the most i hate in this mobile world is the query keyboard ...i recenty got the evo and i love my phone but i was thinking in giving it to my girlfriend and then get the epic but they killed me with the keyboard ...literaly i hate that is something not for everyone ...and is loosing fans every day ..on top of that it rests style on the handset ...all of the other carriers did not put it in but of course ...our beloved sprint did it ..

Well that's just it right? Sprint has two offerings, The Evo and the Epic. Both different styles to offer its customer base but both are considered premiere HIGH END devices. They also have two low tiered Android offerings of the same design.

Also, like I told my friend, this phone is thin enough that you could still have it and never slide out the hard keyboard and still feel like it's a waste of thickness.

Other things our beloved Sprint did (no sarcasm from me tho) is the flash on the back and dedicated camera button.

I agree with that. They need to have both a touch screen only and an android with a physical keyboard. I got rid of my EVO because of the lack of physical keyboard. That is also why this one appeals to me.
