As everyone used to tell me on crackberry.com -- NEVER TRUST REPS. They most often don't have a clue and are not given any clairvoyant insight into phones or anything of that nature. By all likley hood you are more informed then they are.

I would think with the shortages that sprint is facing with the EVO and how its hurting sprints 4G roll out, that the Epic would see a release very soon or at least in the next couple of weeks.

I have a feeling that sprint wont make an announcement ahead of time of a release date, they will only send out a press release the day the phone is released.

i'm going to say an early august date, maybe even august 1st because in the latest playbook linked a couple of pages back you'll notice sprint education about the Epic 4g.. usually when that starts it's about 1 month till launch.

For whatever it's worth, I called Samsung Mobile USA customer service 1-888-987-4357 yesterday to inquire as to a release date for the Epic. The person I spoke with said the Epic will be released through Sprint on the 28th and to call Sprint for more details.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the date that the Epic is released. It fits in with the release date of the other galaxy phones. I just hope Sprint/Samsung have enough phones, so that they don't pull an Evo.

A Wednesday is a weird day for Sprint. Highly unusual... however, I won't discount anything. Recently, a technician was at a store recently with the Epic and it was still in the testing phase, but "final testing" was used several times.

I'm hoping for such a rls date, but you would figure those working for Sprint and in the Advocacy program for this phone (I know a Sprint employee on the N. side of Indy who has been accepted for the Epic program) would have received there's by now or very soon.

The folks in the EVO Advocacy group received their EVO's around mid-may ...

thats an excellent date

I was just told by a samsung rep that ALL the phones would be released by the end of this month but there is no specific date on there end listed.

So July end would make sense -- but I don't and wont give these guys much credit.

Interesting... so now we have a camp of people saying End of July and a camp of people saying Beginning of August.

The only thing that worries me is that there is no VZW roadmap with their Galaxy S phone on it. We know how that all goes too... if there is a problem with the CDMA version (and Samsung's past CDMA performance *coughMOMENTcough* has been less than stellar), VZW will find it and hold it up.

There is also the rep that I spoke to that said the phone is in "Final Testing", which I've never heard of two weeks prior to a launch. It might make sense since the testing windows are getting shorter and shorter due to the push of tech out the door, but it's still worrysome for a solid time table. Makes speculation / silly season less fun. :P

Reason why no vzw is because they are about to launch the droid x and now announced the droid 2...Maybe they have an exclusive with Motorolla and put the Galaxy S on the back burner...Fine by me....Launch the droid x....let that simmer...then launch the Epic...It's all about timing....Yes the timing is killing us....but it will be worth it. I hope the release date is towards the end of August so that hopefully I can early upgrade from Oct 1...That could be another thing...Could Sprint look and see how many can upgrade in Aug, Sept or Even Oct and they some how know that those people will upgrade to the Epic....or are they waiting to get more EVO's in stock or are they given HTC a chance to produce some screens for the EVO's.

I am here just helping pass the time.....Why do I feel we are all in that Macy's after Thanksgiving commercial saying "open open open".:p

If it is a legitimate bug, then that would be a good thing.

It makes you wonder if Verizon would have released the iPhone 4 with the antenna bug, or would they have required Apple to fix it before releasing it to the public

I sent 2 emails to Samsung (by accident) about the release date of the Epic 4g. I doubt they'll tell me, but at least it's worth a try. I'll report back when I get a reply (I really do hope they say the 28th).

I was told before the end of month for all phones--- yet it does not make sense to me. Don't they announce a date and then wait a few weeks before release? if it was the 28th then it would be just under two weeks-- they would have to announce today or so.

They could also be in negotiations with HTC about releasing the phone early due to Evo shortages (which apparently are caused by samsung somehow). As it is right now, Sprint isn't selling any new 4G phones, and therefore 4G market announcements should be delayed.

Samsung screens are in short supply so HTC is also partnering with Sony to make screens for them. We should see a shortage for at least another 2-3 wks.

The 4G markets are deployed by ClearWire, and it's in their best interest to release 4G to market on time or earlier. They bring in 4G home and mobile internet customers. Comcast and Time Warner also promote the ClearWire 4G, but under their respective brands, which also helps bring in revenue into ClearWire.

There could certainly be an interesting power struggle among Sprint, HTC, and Samsung. Sprint promised enough 4G units by HTC, HTC promised screens by Samsung, Samsung promised a July release by Sprint.. who bites first? Obviously Sprint should, but maybe they have to convince HTC to let them. Contracts can be complicated.

The EVO's screen is not made by Samsung though, so if this kind of battle is going on it would lend itself to the delay of the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon (HTC Incredible does feature an AMOLED screen produced by Samsung.)
