Aug 11th "Official" Release Date?

I'm not trying to cover for sprint. I just don't see how it's their fault the phone isn't out. It's not like they are sitting on a million of them, too lazy to put them into stores.
Well the delay is being caused by either Sprint or Samsung and given the track record of each company, I'm assuming Sprint. I may know someone in corporate with plenty of inside dirt to share, but aside from that we can all see they botched the Nextel merger and have struggled for years to provide half the customer service level of tiny T-Mobile. If the wireless market didn't have such enormous barriers to entry, I gotta think Sprint would have been pushed out by now.

They have no 4G phones available for sale and they can't decide a release date for this one, even internally, because they can't be sure they'll be ready. Is that not laughable?

Let's put it this way, I know that Sprint PR doesn't even know this phones launch date. I also know Samsung connects, they are full steam ahead.

Disagree... Everything he said was based in some form of truth. It sounds like you are just trying to start an argument over it since you don't have a rebuttal to make.

Try reading my first post and look up the link. That rests my case.

If there was something comparable (QWERTY keyboard and Android OS) on AT&T I would already have the device. I know it's silly but the device is the sole reason I'm considering leaving AT&T. The more they drag their feet on it the more I'm thinking about not going with Sprint.

I reread your post and to me it sounds more like your bitter towards sprint since you can't have the phone you want right now. Be patient good things are worth waiting for.
Wow, you are trolling, and/or reading challenged. There is nothing "bitter" in my post I was making factual observations after being a sprint customer with an average of four lines and 15 years (since they were GSM), and having some experience in telecommunications myself.

It has nothing to do with what I want. it has to do with the profoundly short window Sprint has. How long was the "iphone killer" Pre relevant, a few months? Handsets age more rapidly than ever. Sprints window is VERY small.

I am up in September, I am not the least bit worried about avbialvbity for myself. The availability problems with 4g handsets are a serious problem for Sprint, not for me.

Thanks!
I disagree entirely, his words do not sound bitter but rather a fairly logical observation on the current state of things. I don't see any reason you could see that as bitter unless you yourself did not like what his post contained so you were "bittered" by it.
Thanks!
Some of your information here is believable, but Sprint and Clearwire are beginning their own test of LTE and will implement a much faster spectrum than ATT and Verizon. Clearwire has already purchased that spectrum. 70mbps download speeds sound pretty damn good to me, faster than Verizon. Clearwire aims for 'real world' downloads of 20 to 70 Mbps | ZDNet this is the link to the article that read. It won't be long before Sprint has LTE maybe by the end of 2011 but for sure sometime in 2012. So I put my faith in Sprint since they have been my preferred carrier since 1997.

You would find all of it believable if you knew anything about the business. It is all is factual, not some.
Sprint has been my carrier for all my private family lines since early 1995. I have 45 line years with Sprint PCS, so since I went through their change from GSM to CDMA, I know what switching technologies can entail.

[like most people my corporate provided handsets have not benn Sprint, but ATT and Verizon]

The fact is that wimax to LTE will be seriously messy for Sprint and to some degree for its wimax users.

Sprint and clearwire have NOWHERE near the deep pockets of ATT and Verizon. From a financial perspective in order to deploy LTE they will have to cripple wimax roll out. From a technology perspective is a looming problem with handsets.

Are you thinking they will concurrently have LTE and Wimax? if so with what spectrum. If not, do you think the makers of handsets are going to put wimax plus lte in individual handsets? If so for what carrier? Sprint alone?

And lastly when it comes to Sprint, they lose controlled spectrum advantage if they are going to deploy wimax and LTE concurrently and overlaid.

What some people don't realize is Verizon will not be rolling out a city at a time, they will be unveiling something like 100 million to 130 million person 4g coverage around December.

Now you didn't rebut a single data point or conclusion I made. It wasn't anything but a discussion of the problems caused for Sprint by the availability problems with their 4G handsets.

Uhm, rufflez did mention iPhone. He said the Epic's competition would be Droid2, iPhone, and Vibrant. I'm not sure how Aero misread that enough to pen a six paragraph diatribe.

I agree with the sentiment that Sprint is broken and needs this phone badly. However, it's quite obvious their inability to get this phone out is indeed just another symptom of the same problem - management is incompetent.

Yes I did misread his mention of iPhone. If you look at the two sentences he wrote ATT follwoed VZ and I skipped reading the period. so for that I correct myself. The iphone is the single existing in stock high end phone. (you and I may not want it, but for the consumer the brand value, name recognition and preference is king, I would image for 90% of buyers even if evo and eipc were available).

the rest is not a "diatribe" but an assessment of how sprint has a small advantage window that is closing fast. Each day without selling 4g handsets is a day of contract sales they won't recover easily.

I mention it stridently, but certainly not "bitterly", not because I don't like Sprint, but because I do like Sprint.

Either somebody at sprints management screwed the pouch withe inventory estimates, or they simply don't have the financial power to get anything more than a token form htc.

Just read this on the unofficial galaxy page '' Sprint: The Samsung Epic will be released sometime next week. Local stores are waiting for their training on the phone as well as more information later this week.''
''Received the information from Sprint directly. More information and pricing should be released later this week.''
These rumors are ongoing (sigh) :(

You could at least post a link.

that would be great except hasn't every "official" release date so far for this phone claimed to have been directly from sprint?

Sorry man. I would have text you if I had good news. It's just been one rumor after the other around here.

Yeah, I was coming here every minute of internet that I had, but I only found rumors. Thanks for looking for some legitimate info though.

It seems like Sprint is starting to lose it. Uncertain launch date for the Epic, severe shortages on their flagship phone, weak marketing, and switching to LTE in the future? I mean, why in the world doesn't Sprint just switch to Wimax 2 in the future? Are they going to merge with someone else or something? I am aware of the T-Mobile/Sprint merge that's rumored, but I HIGHLY doubt this will happen.

Sprint will release the phone when it's ready for release not any sooner. I said it would probably be September. I spent time with the device I know I will get one, I could care less if it comes out tomorrow or next year. Oh and I have been in the technology field for 25 years so I have some knowledge. I was able to do some beta testing with the epic and as much as I like the evo I believe the epic will be better. I can wait for it since it will be a month or 2 before I am able to purchase it.

Kind of OT, maybe posting in the wrong thread, but I didn't want to start a new thread for just a quick question, you know? So I got my pre on 6/6/09, since I have an everything plan I'm part of the sprint premier customer thing. So I was eligible for an upgrade starting 6/6/10. So if I get the Epic on whatever day it comes out, will it still be the advertised price of what people will get for example $199 after MIR even though my 2 year contract isn't up. (I'm assuming I'd have to sign up for a new 2 year contract anyways.) Thanks for the help!

I come back only to find that instead of a launch on the 11th or the 20th, it could be in September. I really do hope there's a soft launch in 4 days and an official launch on the 20th.

I think many of us hope that...but its a false hope. I don't expect it to release on the 11th. At this point I'd be quite happy with a release on the 20th.

Yes, thats the idea. Stores like Radio Shack and BestBuy can also do the $199* without mail in rebate

*Subject to what the actual price of the phone is after MIR

Thanks! I was just hoping they weren't just going to take off $150 since my contract wasn't up yet.

If you spent some time with the device then you're coming from a completely different perspective than the rest of us.
