Oh wow, I wish this was around when I did my first root. jcase made some great steps, but having JUST got my first Android ever and not knowing a damn thing about ADB (let alone that it existed!), going through the steps were a bit overwhelming. Finally getting down to where I'm risking it and modding my phone, amongst other things. Definitely getting this in case I ever want to go from Rooted to Non-Rooted, and back for any reason!

auto unroot was causing trouble for some phones, i dont think the auto part of it was the problem but it was safer to pull it as i dont have a TB i didnt want to be in a position where i wasnt able to help someone in that scenario.

but auto root should be solid unless your sdcard is bad but thats not very often

I need to unroot , and I have the slightest idea as to how to it .............please someone help me
I need to take my phone to verizon becuse the mobile network is not recognizing

did you follow the link i provided in the unroot section?

I was going thru the steps but everything back working fine now

Lovin tha Thunder! Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk

So I'm hoping I don't have an issue. I used the auto unrooot and everything worked flawlessly. Only problem now is that the software version is back to 1.12.605 and when I try to update it it won't let me. It says its checking for updates and then that disappears. Any ideas? Thanks

phew!

Finally pulled the trigger and want to say thanks to anyone involved with this method and DroidXcon!
You are so committed to it even without the TB anymore from what i've read, Outstanding!
I think its my 4 year old lap top but after doing the same thing 7, 8, 9, times (lost track) everything happened and am now finally rooted :)

Thanks again so much for your time doing this!

hmmm, newbie looking to remove bloat/junk where do i go now?
head is spinning with all the rom options available :)

You should read cyber warriors sticky on making backups and flashing roms before you remove anything, good luck, and make nandroid backups often.

Thanks Zero! I had to take a break but came across
The post you mention , reading it a few times. I will get at it tomorrow
Been long day :)

As Zero mentioned, head over to the guide for backing up and installing roms. Back up your stock rom before making any changes to the phone. A good rom with a strong support and development team is Das BAMF. All of the roms and their download links are available in that guide.
Here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...-backup-restore-install-roms-thunderbolt.html

As for removing bloat you have Cory's guide for removing bloat or if you just want to stop the apps from running but still keep them on the phone, you can use an app called Titanium Backup Pro and freeze the bloat. Its also a good app to have to make backups of your apps including their data/info/settings.
Cory's guide: Removing bloat with Root Explorer
Titanium Backup market link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&feature=search_result
Also for backing up apps and app data, you could also use MyBackup Pro:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro&feature=more_from_developer

So in case I lost you:
You have ROM Manager to backup, restore & install your stock rom/custom roms.
You have Root Explorer for removing bloat
Or Titanium Backup for removing bloat ...and backing up apps.
Or MyBackup for backing up apps (also the newer version has the option to freeze apps also, like Titanium but I never tried it)

I personally use all the apps listed but mostly ROM Manager and Titanium.

worked great first try. thanks. is it possible to delete PG05img.zip from sd card as instructed through phone?

Yes, use the file manager app on your phone. If you don't have one, download one from the market. Astro file manager is a good choice and it's free.

Ok so I started root and got about 75% of the way through and found this thread. Please forgive the dumb question, but what is the MR1 update? Is that the OTA update that VZW pushed to improve the 4g/3g switching?

Yes, it includes the latest OTA update from Verizon which includes the 1.13.605.7 radio. You can just download the latest radio if you already rooted using a different method.
Thunderbolt Obligatory Radio Thread: http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...adio-obligatory-thunderbolt-radio-thread.html
Go to Menu.. Settings.. About phone.. and check what version you're using, you might already have it.
Was that faster then DF? ;)

Significantly, LOL. Thanks man. I will be installing shortly. Any Roms you like, I was thinking about DasBAMF or LiquidThundersense

Nevermind, after reboot 2 times market worked. Flashing BAMF now

Okay, yea I didn't use this method to root my phone so I don't know too much about it. As far as roms, I was using Lightning Rom for close to two months and just switched to Das Bamf 1.7 a few days ago and like it sooo much better.

Downloaded it and it is SWEET! One question, do you know if the weather portion of the clock widget was removed? I really like having that right on the home screen. Thanks for the help.

Yea.. I don't think that clock has the weather with it. I use Beautiful Widgets for my weather. I flashed Das Bamf and then right away restored my old setup so I'm not too familiar with the clock they're using. Post your question in the Das Bamf thread and somebody using that clock could help you out better. If I had to take a guess, I would say no.. it doesn't include the weather.
