Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Ran this probably 15 times now and still no root, it wont even finish the process. It gets to the part where it says adb will close and restart in a few seconds, comes back up, says its pushing software, kernal, hboot, etc. Then just closes down. I've tried going to bootloader and running the PG05IMG file on the card, then starting back at step #2 and it still does the same thing, just closes out, no error messages or anything, and never comes back up....

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Actually I figured it out. the root method was super simple to use! thank you Droidxcon!!!

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I keep getting a message that says adb out of date and then it will kill the program after a few attempts. Any suggestions?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

You want to leave the pg05img file zipped. Do not open it or extract any files. It need to be placed on the root of the sd card zipped. Download it like any other file and save as is.... do not unzip the file.

I seem to be running into a somewhat similar issue. I am running 2.2.1 and using TB_Auto_Root / HTC sync. The PG05 file is zipped inside the folder along with the PG04IMG_downgrade....
BUT when I get about 70% + through I keep seeing:
  • misc.img downgrade checksum error
  • please disconnect and pull the battery
  • Then start the application again
  • ...now exiting press any key to continue
I've tried like ten times already today and getting the same result.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and love this forum! :D

if the checksums do not match, the auto root will not continue bc if you flash an incomplete radio file you could brick your phone.

i think you need to download the files again and start over from the beginning.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Hey, I am kind of new to all of this but have a decent understanding of cmds and what not. I just need a little help. What root program do I get? Is there a certain place I can download it?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Why is superuser set to a version of 9.9.9? With this you cannot check for updates to ensure it's up-to-date in the future?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I just finish rooted, but I closed the window too soon. What was the file I'm suppose to delete?

Should I set up my gmail acct and load up my apps now or wait till I flash a ROM? I remember reading flashing ROMs delete things but I'm not sure about what

Delete or move the pg05img.zip from the root of the sd card... it will block you from getting into recovery from bootloader if you ever need to.

If you're going to flash a custom ROM... I would wait to set up anything, you need to wipe the phone when flashing.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Ugghhh, keep getting different errors. Getting "adb service is out out date. Killing service *daemon started successfully*" than it keeps running and I get the: misc.img downgrade checksum error
please disconnect and pull the battery
Then start the application again
...now exiting press any key to continue

Any help would be appreciated :)

Anybody having trouble completing the process, first try another USB port and then try rebooting your PC if switching ports doesn't do the trick. I couldn't even get started until I switched ports, then when I downgraded, I couldn't get it to continue until, out of pure frustration, I rebooted my PC - then, it continued perfectly!

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

thanks a lot man. i was gonna try and do this the hard way using ADB (which i hadnt heard of before this week) and you just made my life way easier.:)

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

im getting those adb server is out of date. killing... messages over and over too, and then it starts daemon.. I don't know if its rooting properly or not. I used another root option for another TB yesterday and it worked wonders, but this other one I picked up was on a newer firmware so I didn't trust the old root... now I'm nervous. Am I in trouble?

I guess worst case scenario is I can do it manually using adb, but I haven't adb'd a device since the original droid so I'd need to brush up again I suppose.

Can anybody help I think I might be doing something wrong here. The program shuts off once it resets it self right before the image appears onto the phone. Whats the deal?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I know someone asked this probably already, but if I rooted a while back using old methods, can I unroot using this method?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Special thanks to jcase and Team AndIRC for all their work and for streamlining the manual adb process

[warn]The method of rooting your Android device as described in the article herein is solely for enthusiasts and not for the faint of heart.

IT WILL WIPE YOUR DATA. IT WILL WIPE YOUR DATA. IT WILL WIPE YOUR DATA.

Android Police, Android Central, Team AndIRC and myself disclaim all liability for any harm that may befall your device, including, but not limited to: bricked phones, voided manufacturer warranties, exploding batteries, etc.

Download times maybe rather long, root includes OS downgrade and upgrade images.
I have created this to make the process easier but as a user you should know and understand the use of adb.
If for some reason the process should fail there may be need to manually troubleshoot and proceed using adb commands
under the tips area of this thread i will supply references to familiarize yourself with adb[/warn]

[info]USB driver download (All are the same):
Tip: For best results use USB ports in the back of the computer. [/info]
[INFO]
  • This Version includes the most recent rooted update.
  • i also have added auto checksum. so that if the proper files have not been written to the phone it will not let you proceed into bootloader
[/INFO]

Auto Root MR1

  • Download Auto root
  • Unzip to anywhere on computer
  • Activate debugging mode and stay awake (below USB debugging)
  • Set the phone to Charge only
  • Open TB_Auto_root Folder
  • Double click Start_Root MR1
  • Follow prompted directions carefully

[tip]
Remember the following:
  • HTC sync installed
  • Use USB ports in the back of the computer(adb only officially supports the first primary USB port -- these are all in the back of the computer, and slower/older computers often have problems using a different one)
  • Activate debugging mode and stay awake (below USB debugging)
  • Phone in charge only mode
  • When the process looks like its hanging its actually writing the file to your sd card so be patient
  • READ the directions carefully.
  • After root is done restart the phone.

Familiarize yourself with ADB

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Hi there, I have a Verizon Thunderbolt and find that the process keeps stopping at the bootloader screen.

After it pushes the files to the sd card, the phone reboots into recovery. Just as the instructions stated, I pushed the power button with the blue bootloader text highlighted. It does a very quick check then goes to the fastboot menu and does nothing.

Is there a reason for this?? How can I continue the process??

Your help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Just copy the ADB + dll file from your Android SDK to the auto root folder.. should work fine then.

I can get past that part, but can get the 'push yes to update' screen
