Available Now: Droid X 2.3.340 Update Discussion (Not Gingerbread!)

For the rant - actually its far worse than that. Loads of bugs with 2.2, but absolute silence from Verizon and Motorola. Needless to say this will be my last moto phone ever.

When I used to be a tier 3 for a really big software company (the last stop for technical support issues before they got escalated to engineering) I tried to make the point to many of the engineers I worked for that "telling me no, sorry, impossible, I can't look at this until next week, get bent etc" was far better than not saying anything at all.

Motorola takes that last track. For the bugs the phone has they could have said something like "yes we know there are issues we are working on a patch, and we don't know when it will be released" but no - they kept completely silent.

Because these people have no SPINE, TEETH OR NUTS. they just cower and hope we go away and deal with it. I cant believe i switched from blackberry to this BS. i could have made a hybrid of my own in the time it takes these gingerbread eating tossers to fix a simple bug.

And how can they honestly sit there and think/justify that their users want a stupid a$$ football game on their phones eating up memory. And the damn thing isnt even free at that. if i was sitting in the room when they thought that grand idea up i would have been like "put this damn gun in your mouth and pull the trigger before i do it for you!"

Maybe ill email the whole company and have them fill out an ID10T form to see what kind of people we are dealing with. JESUS HELP!.......PLEASE.

You should really look around before you make claims....

Hey guys, I'm trying to use z4root 1.3.0 from the xda site but it does not seem to be working with this new update. I get the SU icon but none of the apps I try can get root access (root explorer, titanium backup, adfree..).
You guys think this method still works? I've tried wiping the phone and sd card and z4root stil fails:(
I need my dang root access!!!
Thanks

All of you trolls that come into this thread or even this forum to complain and whine, go away.

I for one love the X, but I am curious to see if i do see any improvements with the update once I get it.

anyone interested in the manual download?

btw, for those that dont know how, here is how to apply the update (you do NOT need to be rooted)

*quick aside: if you rooted on 2.3.15 and removed/renamed bloatware, you need to put it back before attempting this update, or it wont work

may help someone....

Hey guys, this is my first post here but i thought i would share this with you. Last night when the OTA up date was down and wasn't available i thought i would see if this worked, i dont know if it was complete luck or not but what i did to gain access to the OTA update was put my X into airplane mode, restart the phone and when it restarted i took it out of airplane mode threw wifi on real fast, connected and checked for updates and away it went.

Like i said i dont know if it was sheer dumb luck or not but if you wanna try this instead of trying to manually install 2.2.1 its worth a shot, good looks on the manual update though!

looks like the manual download is now dead, I got it tho, I can put it up on one of my servers if need be

Just installed the manual update! Thanks a bunch!
seems like my phone is snappier? not entirely sure though? I'll have to use it for a bit and see if it bogs down at all.

Quadrant is the same I think, but overall, seems much better than before! Games don't lag ever for me anymore, new addition to the dialer is awesome, Madden is crap like every other piece of bloatware, new vibrate is interesting? it pulsates and increases in strength, music player had icons refined? hasn't completely locked up my phone yet :) hmm what else??
browser performs better? Can't tell for sure, but I think engadget scrolls smoother. Launcher pro also doesn't hiccup when you scroll a screen for the first time

Give the manual a shot if you don't want to wait. Works awesome!

so if I am on 2.2.1 am I up to date with the latest update. I kept seeing things about 2.2.3.40? Or something like that?

Also does anyone know how to completely wipe my phone and sd card?

2.2.1 is the android firmware version, 2.3.340 is the system version, so if youre on 2.2.1, you should be good!

you can wipe by going to menu>privacy>factory data reset

for the sd card: menu>sd card &phone storage>format sd card
