Available Now: Droid X 2.3.340 Update Discussion (Not Gingerbread!)

Just in case anyone was still wondering what happen to the update rollout the quote below is from a regular user on the motorola forum

The update was only available for a few hours. Once they closed the window you can't download it anymore and will have to wait until it is released. Like Dan said it will probably be a couple days to a week

I for one love the X, but I am curious to see if i do see any improvements with the update once I get it.

Mine seems fine. However, it wasn't bad before the update. Im loving my Droid X. I believe it is the best smartphone I have owned to date and I have had a lot of them. After the update, my X does seem to be a little faster, a little smoother, and I haven't found a bug yet.

for anyone who's installation failed, mine was too. To fix it, I cleared my cache. This can be in the standard recovery screen accessed by turning the phone on by holding the home key, then when you get the exclamation point, pressing search.

Once I cleared cache, the install succeeded.

Has anyone been able to get z4 root to work and root their x after the update. I had mine rooted before and downloaded the 2.2.1 update and it installed just fine but now I can not get my x to re-root. Do i need to do a data reset and erase all root apps and the super user app first or should it just root even though those apps are installed.

I just rooted successfully with z4 on this update. All I did before the update was uninstall root-only apps. I was still rooted when I updated, the update killed root, then I installed Z4 and got root back.

1) Open Z4 and Try to root for a while (It will hang or your DX will freeze or a combo there of)
2) Pull the battery
3) Reboot
4) Open Z4 and Try to root (it should work this time)

So what exactly did this update bring to us, because I've seen no changes at all, except that I had to spend 45 minutes re-rooting my phone and I also now have MORE bloatware on my phone.

My Corporate Sync still does not work, 3G still drops, etc. So what did this update do exactly? Was it purely a way for Verizon to load up our phones with more crap?

I flashed the update btw. Didn't actually receive it on my phone.

Same exact process for me lol

I have the update.zip file. Im trying to move it to the root folder and manually update. Is there a way to do this? I dont not get the option to move the file even though it is there in my download folder. Any suggestions?

Strongly suspect the OTA version will be tweaked in some way. Simple enough to just reflash over the new version (or wait for the new OTA if you flashed on the older one) but I think I'm going to wait at this point.

There isn't actually a folder named "root", the root folder of the sd card is just putting the file where all your folders are just drag and drop it there. I updated this morning and haven't ran into any issues.

I got it now thanks though!

anyone having issues doing the manual update with a rooted Droid X. I have downloaded the file several times from two different sources and I when I try to run the update I get an Error in /sdcard/update.zip ( Status 7 ) installation aborted. I have tried downloading the update.zip file to my computer and copying it to the root of my sdcard I have tried using my phone to download the file and then using root explorer to copy the file to the root of the sdcard and I get the same results. I am confused. any help would be great. I am still using the stock Verizon ROM when I got the phone so nothing has changed other then the phone is rooted.

Could this work if someone posts the sbf for 2.3.40? Could use that to get past the leaked version im on? Im currently on 2.3.20

Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

the sbf for 2.3.340 probably wont be available for some time, but that probably wouldnt work for this anyway. i would swing by the roms/hacks forum for help on this one.

EDIT: someone in there is having the same problem. here is the link: http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...leaked-froyo-how-get-back-official-2-2-a.html

Possibly a dumb question here, but if I load the zip file to update my X, will this have any issues when G-bread comes out, or any other future update? Meaning, will I have to downgrade to upgrade later? Or does it make absolutely not a bit of difference because the downloaded zip file is the official release and not a leak?

Thanks!

can anyone tell me if the OTA download is available now or has it yet to be put out there? i am rooted, using Z4root, and have yet to see any update. i had no problem when the official Froyo OTA came out, but im not seeing anything as of now. Im not running any custom roms or anything that i would think would cause me not to see the OTA update. along with root, i have setcpu, cache cleaner, wireless tether, titanium backup, adfree, minfreemanager and real hdmi (set for super user permissions). would any of this cause me to not recieve the OTA?

edit: i havent frozen or deleted anything using titanium backup. i only backed up my info once.

I'm sure you've seen their laundry lists of changes and fixes, so I won't touch that, but from personal observation, I have confirmed a few improvements so far.

1. They fixed the annoying problem where the text editor jammed special characters, like comma, colon, hyphen, etc. immediately next to the last alpha character. It's a small thing but I'm sure glad to see that one gone.

2. Video playback consistently looks quite a bit smoother to me. Far fewer frame drops that caused jerkiness, especially during pans and zooms.

3. I'm not sure if this existed before, but it is now easy to add a single contact info on the home page. Pretty handy if you want to keep that data quickly accessible for the short or long term.

It will be a few weeks before I'm confident that they have fixed any, some or all of the weird behavior that intermittently shows up on my DX, and sometimes goes away. Until I see some indication that graphics file losses aren't a problem anymore, I'm staying with wireless connects to my PC for syncing. I'm also sticking with the Music Mod app to avoid the erratic problems that the stock Music player was causing.

So far, I haven't seen any negatives, but I haven't tried everything yet.
