Bad news about ICS for the Thunderbolt

Nope the nexus s has a single core (and less ram than the thunderbolt as a matter of fact) and ran ics fine. It is actually now running jellybean.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your ICS upgrade

True but even if the update doesn't come out (which would seriously surprise me after the all of confirmations we have seen from HTC) we will still have the option to run AOSP ICS. I'm actually posting from Liquids ics rom right now... data reports as 1x in the notification bar, however we definitely have 3g speeds. Only a matter of time before we yet a completely working ics rom (and who knows maybe jellybean :p) without the help of a leak from HTC

That would be terrific. I've never been big on the whole rooted thing, but once I'm past my upgrade date I figure I have that much less to lose. I've already resolved, at the very least, to flash back to the stock version we ran prior to the current OTA if HTC announces that ICS isn't coming to the bolt. (Hated the current OTA almost as much as the one that brought us spontaneous reboots). If we don't get ICS from HTC then I will most definitely root and install an ICS ROM made specifically for this device.

Hah, interesting. Dude took an ICS leak from the Bionic, modded it and cloned it for the Thunderbolt. Has working 1x data, although speed tests indicate it may be 3G?

It definitely seems more like 3G to me. I have it on my phone now, and I'm getting 4+ Mbps down, and around 1.5 up. Until they get full 4G, I won't keep it on my phone, but it's kind of fun to play around with when I'm bored. It really has made the phone much faster, and I'm excited to see what Jester can do once he gets hold of the leak from Verizon (if we get it).

Well that sucks. I wanted Google Chrome.

Y'know I just downloaded that for ICS on my tablet. I'm not seeing what's so special. I can get my bookmarks synced with the default browser, and I can't even see how to get Chrome in full screen mode. It seems to have nothing over the Dolphin for Tablets beta even.

Yea chrome does not support flash... you need to use the stock browser in ics and jellybean in order to use flash content

No, i meant flash doesn't work in any browser in current ics build with working data by jester

Looks like you're right... I've been trying to ween myself off of flash content since html5 is the future. Flash definitely does work on ics and jellybean though so I'm sure once we see jester's out of beta it will work

Yeah sadly no flash on the current Liquid ICS rom with data.

But realistically since Flash is being completely gutted from Android permanently you may as well just remove it now and save yourself the trouble of adapting without it on their terms. May as well do it now and learn to live without it, again lol.

Chrome is a decent browser, but to be honest, it's not really any better than stock. In addition to those two options, I also have Dolphin browser and find myself using it more than the others.

Glad we can put this thread to bed now! ;-)

You're referring to the ICS leak yesterday? Haha, not so fast. :) It's a test build from April! Meanwhile, the Incredible 2 also had a test build leak out yesterday, but it's from July AND has a newer version of ICS (4.0.4). Is there a newer version they're still working on for the Thunderbolt or not? Things that make you go "Hmmmm...."! :p

But the thread spoke originally about the assumption that ICS for the Bolt was doomed regardless of version of the leak, simply because the Desire had its upgrade pulled. So still, it's safe to say now that an OTA is coming.

Now GOD let's hope it's bug free when it lands, unlike most other Bolt OTAs we've gotten.

Agreed. Until HTC says otherwise, I'm expecting the update to be released by the end of this month.

I doubt it will be released to us by the end of this month, but HTC may release the base build to Verizon by then. Verizon will then need to customize it and bloat it up, and then we'll start seeing RUU releases, and when the screams die down from the early adopters, one of them will be packaged for the final release.

It will almost certainly be several weeks from the first RUU leak to the rollout, and there's no sign or word of when the first RUU is due out, or even any indication of a date for it.

If Gingerbread was any guide, "this month" will slip to "this quarter" which will slip to sometime in the Spring.

I hope not, but that's what history indicates.

Spring? lol no definitely not.

They (Verizon/HTC) hate this device with a passion. I bet they wish owners of it would just rage-quit and get off it so they don't have to deal with it anymore.

I'm betting they want to push this update as soon as physically possible to be done with it. I'm expecting ICS to be OTA pushed to Thunderbolt owners by no later than mid-Sept.

Hell we may even see some OTA pushes in a week from now.

Anyways what I REALLY don't like is that the leaked build shows a build date of April,2012. WTF? Really? This build has been sitting around for over 4 months? What are you doing Verizon/HTC?

I think I am absolutely done with HTC permanently, and Verizon is REALLY making it hard for me to stay with them. After that post about Motorola claiming they wish they could unlock their bootloaders, but they have to comply with carrier specs, puts a final nail in the coffin that is Verizon vs OEM's bootloader locking. Screw Verizon. If I didn't get discounts through them and still maintain my unlimited data, I'd bail in a heartbeat.

I don't get the HTC hate. It isn't them, it is Verizon. They hold updates forever, pretty much end of story there

Then explain how Samsung is pushing out OTA's for Jelly Bean on the GS3 already. If it was always just Verizon, then you wouldn't see a JB update for the GS3 for another 4 months minimum.

Don't be so quick to purely blame Verizon. HTC is to blame as well. As a device OEM their profits come from new phone sales. Updating a device does nothing in the way of making them money, but it sure does cost them.
