Battery Life on my Z Fold 3.

Batteries have been a issue with every phone with people. Battery life will vary with each person just like fuel mileage varies from person to person in cars. It has a lot to do with how you use the phone. I'm a power user and have no issues with the battery, but I don't expect it to last all day either let alone 3 days. I will compare this to my note 20U all day long. I will also wait for the battery to settle in longer, complaining about battery life in a couple days is not fair either.

You have a point - the first few days or even weeks won't be accurate depictions of battery usage because the user is still setting things up and potentially "being on their phone" longer than usual (to configure settings, to play with it, etc).

After the first couple of weeks, we'll truly get an idea of what battery life will be like.

I always say SOT means nothing because SOT while watching a video file, surfing the net on mobile data, surfing the net on wifi, watching youtube, playing a game, etc. - all will yield different results as each one takes a different level of processing power, so it's pointless to compare from one person to another, unless it's like that video where each phone was doing the exact same thing. We get so obsessed with SOT as if it should be a main indicator of battery life, and for the most part, it really isn't.

That said, I find so far that my battery drains faster using the cover screen vs. the inner screen for some reason. Probably because of the tasks I am doing on the cover have been more intensive. My phone is still learning, so I hope it gets better, but so far I can't say I am impressed with the battery life for me thus far. From about 4:45p (100%) to now (12:40am), I am down to 30% with only 2.5 hrs of SOT.

Well said! I'm with ya on this.

Same. Poor battery life, I lose 15% of battery just by browsing the web and watching a couple YouTube videos on the outer screen. (Small screen) also the battery randomly gets hot. I'm really loving this device but not with these issues.

I'm not having any heat issues... I've been on calls all day and browsing but mainly unfolded...

I just set my device up today and it was, naturally, warm and draining quick. But after everything was setup it cooled down and battery seemed to normalize. I kept the phone open the entire time as well. No issues thus far.

They may need to do an update or something, I can use the cover screen only and still get worse battery life than my Note 20 ultra. It gets hot when doing very simple tasks such as just sending messages. This is with all other apps having been closed out just in case something is running overtime in the background. And yes I've tried without closing all apps too.

A restart may help. Worth a shot if you haven't done so already.

Re: Battery Test

what are your expectations for "pretty good". I am now 4 days in and I am getting pretty "awful" battery life. Looking like a 4 to 5 hour SOT phone over the course of a day. Today, during my "normal" usage, I have dropped to 60hz, put most apps into deep sleep and use the phone like normal. Off the charger at 715 am. SOT of 2 hours. Total battery usage 53%. No particular apps are causing problems. Looks like standby drain of 2 to 3% per hour plus 2 hours of SOT. After a full day, that would get me to 4.5 ish SOT. Also, on wifi almost all day. Not sure what to expect here but this seems pretty damn poor. My iphone 12 pro max was getting 7 to 8 hours a day SOT. I wasn't expecting that but I wasn't expecting this either. Just trying to understand if my phone has an issue or what. I've seen battery reports that are all over the place. Many reviewers only getting 3 to 4 SOT and then some people claiming 7 SOT. What gives with huge disparities.

I don't believe that statement. Every Samsung phone I've had since the note 8 I've gotten 5 hrs of SOT. Which is good enough for me.

Another day another poor showing. I’ve neutered the phone as much as I can. 60 hz, dark mode, brightness reduced, disable 5 g etc. looking like 4 to 5 hours max over an 18 hour day. By any measure it’s garbage and not ok for an 1800 device. I’m seriously frustrated. It’s also much worse than the fold2. I do not have any particular apps draining. Just normal email, Reddit and web browsing. The phone has quite a bit of standby drain. 2 to 3 percent per hour. I love this phone but I don’t think this will work for me. I do not understand he decisions to reduce the battery size or why it’s performing worse than the f2. If it was to say it’s thinner and lighter it wasn’t worth it.

Mine is still July patch so a update definitely going fix some issues people are experiencing.

We're talking about a difference of 100mAh which amounts to nothing, so that's not realistically the issue if you feel it's bettery life is worse than the fold 2.

So I'm using my z fold 3 for 2 days now, and I see much battery improvement every day, coming from a Galaxy s20 I don't see much of a difference in battery life. This phone rocks

I imagine once the phone learns your usage it will perform better. Glad you are loving it!

Try to do clean install without restoring and see. If this doesn't behave the same or draining that mean some app of yours are causing this draining issue. If not, you have phone issue because a lot of us here don't experienced it.

I always factory reset before using the phone for the first time and I think that helped me.
