Battery Life on my Z Fold 3.

Shouldn't have to do factory reset for new phone.

Technically should not. But I did see difference as the phone gets the update when you start the phone (without logging in) and a factory reset keeps the phone at latest software removing files not needed anymore after the update.

Interesting, definitely will take note next time.

Today something went wrong...... It was charging and the battery was still draining. Temp was around 109. I had to turn it off to get it to charge right. I assume it was a rogue app

If you have the Amazon Alexa app. disable background use. It was sucking 19 percent of my battery even though it didn't get used much.

Don't forget, if you have the AT&T version, to uncheck the mobile diagnostics setting under Connections- Mobile Networks -Mobile Network Diagnostics That will help with battery life.

I am following up here with genuine questions - not looking to start a flame war. My phone is 10 days old. I did a hard reset and installed all my apps fresh. I am still getting terrible battery life. This is an ATT device. I have disabled 5G. I am running 60hz all day. Dark mode. All apps other than email and texts are in deep sleep mode. The battery is brutal. Yesterday, I was able to "make" the phone last from 730 am to 1130 pm basically by not using it. I had a total of just under 3 hours SOT. Battery was at 39% at the end of the night. If I browse online, I can watch the meter drop a percentage after 3 or 4 minutes. If I stream bluetooth music, it will drop a percent every 15 minutes. I do not consume media. I do not game. I use the phone for basic email, texts and web surfing, chrome, reddit etc.

Today, my battery drained 10 percent in two hours with 19 minutes of screen time. I am not new to Android. I do not think I am missing anything. My battery stats do not show anything unusual. The only big drainer I see is wifi calling. That will absolutely kill the battery.

So, this is a legitimate question, is is possible there is a hardware issue with my phone? Over in reddit, there are numerous people reporting battery life like mine and then a ton of people claiming they are getting 7 hours plus of SOT time. All I can say is something seems amiss. Any ideas? My choices are to return it (which I do not want to do), hope it gets better or perhaps pursue a warranty claim. I am looking for honest feedback from this community which is far more knowledgeable than the reddit community.

To follow up on my own thread, as best I can extrapolate over a week. The phone is burning about 20 percent battery every 3.5 to 4 hours with about 1 hour of SOT time during that period. So that puts it at about 4.5 to 5 hours SOT per average 16 hour day. Is this consistent with what others are seeing? Again, no gaming, no heavy lifting. Just farting around on email, reddit, chrome etc.

Personally haven't had issues with battery life, honestly I don't turn on battery percentage on the status bar. Been doing that for many years on all my phones and that takes the battery anxiety away for me. My phone lasts full day on battery and before I go to bed I put it on a charger. That's my only benchmark, for my daily usage does it get thru the day and I generally don't keep track of percentages. My usage is mostly browsing various forums, reddit, news articles, YouTube watching, podcast listening etc thru various parts of the day. No games since not into it. I do have the US unlocked device direct from Samsung, not the carrier version and carrier firmware. Not saying that makes any difference but just stating what I have.

Coming back to your question on battery life improvements. Check out this video where he suggests turning off WiFi scanning and Bluetooth scanning in Settings - location. That supposedly improved his battery. Mine is on and I'll keep it on since I'm doing fine on battery. But may be if this is on for you, try to turn off and see if it helps anything.

Thanks. I had these two already turned off. Question - are you using the 85% battery limiter?

No I don't, since I don't plan to keep it more than a year max

I think that's more useful for long term battery health. Makes sense if you plan to keep it for more than 2 years I guess.

I'm really thinking on that. How many people get an F3 with the idea of keeping it more than 2 years? Folks that get the F3 want the latest and greatest. ...most of the folks anyways. I think about a year is all most of us F3 owners plan to keep these toys. I am using the 85% limiter and I took it off the charger this AM at around 5A. Still got 58% left at 4:47P. I was worried at first about the battery life but even with the limiter enabled I think this thing may do just fine for the amount of time I'll likely have it and it's doubtful that'd be more than a year.

This is precisely why I am not going to sweat some of these things, because I - and I suspect almost everyone here - will only keep this phone for a year max. As enthusiasts, we are going to either upgrade to the ZF4, or if there is a Note 22.

Will definitely upgrade to next gen.

I'm getting 5 plus SOT with some battery still left before i go to bed when I measured couple of times. Haven't turned off any features (not my thing to turn off things), adaptive brightness, 120 hz and everything else mostly on default settings. I also think variations in battery life depends on how much time you are spending on the front screen vs the full tablet screen? I do use the tablet screen while watching videos etc but I also use the front screen a lot while browsing forums, reddit etc. Could be that's why we are seeing vast difference in battery life depending on how much time you spend using the tablet screen vs front? Just thinking out loud.

Yep the main screen is big and it only makes sense it's going to use lot's of battery... how could it not? I think if someone uses it mostly like a tablet they're going to be disappointed with the battery life. It's got a tablet sized screen without the tablet sized battery. I think some concessions will have to be made in the way it's used to get the battery life folks are used to with traditional single screen phones.

Not having any battery issues using the big screen
