Battery Life on Nexus 4 after 4.3 update?

Major battery woes here too. It never sleeps. I turn off all syncing at night. Charged all day (Took all day to charge). Went to bed with about 88%, woke up with 50. Before 4.3 if I went to bed with 80 I would normally wake up with maybe 70-75. 10 of the 15 hours were awake.

No root. Location reporting turned off, Wi Fi always available turned off. Tried hard restart. That only made it take forever to charge.

I used to easily get over a full day with about 4 hours screen time. Now I'm at 15 hours with one hour sot and at 29%

Looks like I need to get a wakelock reporting app.

thanks. i'm just trying to get 4 hours haha.

3.5 hours is considered good if you don't toggle power settings.

Btw, thanks again for pointing me to disabling Google maps location reporting!

My phone lost a good 40% in 3 hours yesterday, all due to Google Services. Rebooted, charged up, went to bed with 94% and woke up 4 hours later with 91%. F'in weird.

I was having major battery issues just prior to and after receiving the 4.3 update, either 'Android System' or 'Android OS' were showing very high on the battery meter (sometimes even above 'Screen'). I hard reset my device and re-downloaded all my apps but the problem persisted. I then performed another hard reset and this time did not download my previously installed applications. I am now experiencing battery performance that is even better to what I was getting prior to the 4.3 update. My theory is that one of my apps had an update which caused a system process to get carried away. I'm in the process of slowly building my installed apps back up and keeping a keen eye on the battery meter as I do so.

I hope you manage to find and fix the cause!

I have the exact same issue, system is draining battery.
Prior to 4.3, Nexus 4 ran all day without any issue (typical day is light usage of phone as I'm on laptop all day).
Post-4.3, system drain is high. I even did a system reset (but I allowed all apps to reinstall).

Today, for instance, the phone has been off charger for almost 12 hours, again very light usage (email notifications mainly, which I typically just swipe away), with the OS taking 36% battery usage.
Phone has only 46% battery left :-\

If you track down the cause, please post!

Get a wake lock detector and post your findings.

I am having the same problem with the increased Android OS battery drain after 4.3.
I used to have almost two days of battery (I can save battery!) in 4.2. Now I am down to 18/20h.

Here are my screenshots, including wakelocks. Any help would be very welcomed.

Thanks!

The new version of wakelock detector helped identify the issue FINALLY.

The battery drain is caused by msm_hsic_host (Kernel wakelock)

Now what?

Same here. Android Os is draining lot of battery. Can't seem to pinpoint issue in wakelocks.

I like all of you have noticed that Android OS drains the battery by staying awake, not allowing the phone to deep sleep. Seems there's no real fix for it aside from restarting your phone.

the problem seems to be intermittent.
it will temporarily disappear when you restart your nexus. but i will comeback again in a few days.
hope Google acknowledges this problem.

That is unfortunate. Thankfully its easily fixable and doesn't require settings to be turned off that disable parts of the experience.

I haven't noticed a difference. But coming from a LTE GNex, anything is better. I easily get 24 hours of the plug.

Got better, at least the wake lock issue fixed itself after a few "normal" cycles. But it's still horrendous...

I have an 8 hour flight on Saturday and my phone won't last much more than 2 hours screen time from unplug. Awesome.

Nope. I just bought mine a week ago and found this thread because I can't get through a work day with the thing just sitting on my desk. Not sure what it is but not old versus new phone. Stock, unrooted 4.3 is all this one has had on it. There are some helpful tips here though that I think may help.

I can get about 8 hours with some heavy web browsing. Streaming I'm guessing 3-5 hours and light usage probably 15-18 or so.

Hello everyone, Ive been viewing this site for quite a while now but never really wanted to register( too lazy). The screenshots I've attached was my best battery life before 4.3, and kinda hard to beat even with 4.3. However, on average my battery life on 4.3 is better, simply because my phone's temperature stay relatively cooler than before. My nexus 4 was fully stock, no custom kernels or roms, and still is. Normally i use my phone mostly for web browsing, i manually adjust brightness, which seems to yield better battery life. I only turn on gps or sync when i need them, and if I'm not on wifi, my 3g is always on( i use the app, Lookout, just incase if my phone gets stolen). I have minimum apps and delete or disable those no longer used.

Currently testing my battery life on 4.3, 50% battery yielded 3.25 hrs SOT on lowest brightness web browsing with wifi. And now testing other 50% battery on full brightness web browsing using same wifi. It seems I'll be getting 2 hrs Screen on time with full brightness, which is still not bad.

awesome battery life you got there.
I noticed that Chrome can make my nexus gets very hot and it consumes quite a lot of battery.
