Battery life since Feb 5 update

It occurred to me to go into Google Play and look for updates - there were a couple there that I could envision affecting things (visual core and carrier services). I updated them and I think things have gotten better. Nothing concrete to offer - but it's worth a try!

My battery life has gotten ugly. Overnight, note the screen usage time of a whopping 5 minutes! No apps used, only system stuff.

I have to concur, since March mine is draining like crazy and I can't figure out why.

Have read these responses to the S5 February battery drain. Now I may have a sort of answer. By sheer fluke I have added to my S5 an induction charger circuit, in the battery compartment. So I can easily charge during day when battery becomes severely discharged. This is the good part, I have been charging the S5 mobile on it at night, twice now. Both days of use has now shown battery is charged to 61% at end of day. Since February update, I normally have to charge mobile during day. Not sure if that helps any one in the same situation. Seems to have corrected my excessive battery discharge. How or why is at present out of my grasp.

Now into October 2018, we maybe able to understand the reason with Samsung being fined for deliberately sending out updates that are full of special code to reduce quality of phone. I will certainly be looking for Samsung to provide new updates to resolve the deliberate faults they have programed into the software. I will not be allowing automatic or manual updates to occur, without fully understanding them. What else have Samsung done to their other products. Also, what have other manufacturers done?

Good luck with that. It's not like there's a line item in their published notes saying "4. Added code to slow down older devices".
Unless you're a coding expert familiar with the Android OS, the kernel in particular, you're not going to find anything like this through cursory examination. Heck, none of the wide range of experts out there blogged anything about this - it was merely a strange coincidence that after a certain point devices like the Note 4 suddenly seemed to be running slower.
