Battery life since Feb 5 update

I always wait for the battery life thread after update 8.XX. BTW people with crazy battery life what settings do you run it on what apps do you use to improve it. Im on the 2xl fyi. I run it on about 20% brightness easily lasts a day. I wish google had a full dark mode for all windows.

I don't claim to be one of those with crazy good battery life but I'm happy with it. On my Pixel 2, I'm using it at 35% w/adaptive brightness on. All services (data, WiFi, Bluetooth, location, whatever) are enabled. I just trust Android to do the right thing and it does so on the P2 for the most part.

I don't have any supplementary apps to help improve battery life, but I am very particular about what gets installed on my phone. Apps that misbehave and abuse battery get uninstalled immediately.

Yup worse for me.... Normally I would have been at 50% - 40% on a work day like this.

Strange.

Looks like increased battery drain with the 2/5 update may be affecting a significant number of users.

It's interesting how they talk about warm phones. I've always used a quick pocket check every now and then to see if my phone feels warmer than usual. That often indicates something's draining my battery when I expect it to be idling. My Pixel 2 remains cool most of the time but will warm up for unknown reasons when I start moving with it in a vehicle or on foot.

Updates get blamed for a lot of things. Thing is if it's really update related I expect it to impact bigger numbers. Could be anything really.....sometimes cleaning caches and factory resets correct the problem. I got the update and battery performance didn't take a hit until yesterday. Rebooted my phone and battery is back to normal. In my case I doubt it was the update.

well... like yo said, could be anything really, but in my case after the update on February 7th , my battery just last 5 hours. I always use the same apps for work, GPS, photos, messages, whats app, that;s all I use systematically. Prior to that I ended up a full day of use with 40% left, now I need to recharge the battery around 2PM. Note that I turn off my phone every night around 11PM until 8 AM the following morning, so I reboot my phone every day. Tonight I chatted with Google Support for about 15 minutes about the issue, they are looking into the problem and they instructed me to mail them the bug, for them to fix it. In those 15 minutes of online chat my battery drains 9%. Definitely IMHO has to be the February update in my particular case. I will let you know when they resolve the issue. Incidentally my phone does not have any temp increase, it's not warm or hot at all. I hope they can solve my issue quickly.

I agree and even in this case where some (exactly how many is "some"...who knows?) users are reporting this happening in safe mode, it's hard to say if the update is to blame.

I'm just selfishly glad I'm not seeing any impact.

Change your wallpaper to something dark or solid black. It'll switch you to a dark theme

I pretty much see battery drain complaints after every update. Personally I remember this happened for me in November or something. I went ahead and factory reset which resolved the issue. For me factory reset isn't a big deal since all my stuff is backed in the cloud and was up and running quickly. After that I haven't had any issues after all the updates. But yeah I have seen a recurring theme where someone or the other complains about battery drain after every update.

Part of what I'm saying though is that I can't attribute my battery spike because of the update. Yes is was after the update but not until 1 to 2 weeks later

Finally updated to the Feb update today. Then saw this thread. Hopefully I continue to have great battery life.

I can't compare it to other software numbers since I just got mine yesterday but so far I am blown away by the battery life on day one. I am coming from a S8 Active which is known for good battery life and my Pixel 2 XL is already killing the Active I had.

definitely noticed a drop in battery life..... have not noticed a warming issue though.
I'm a very light user (text, email, some web surfing).... before the update, I would have approx 75% life remaining when I would leave work (using WiFi from work).. past few days the battery life is about 55-60%
also noticed that it would loose about 5% just sitting in the stand-by (about 1 hour of inactive use)... would maybe drop 1% in stand-by previously...
checked me settings, no changes made...
no new apps etc..???
have to wait and see..

Hi everyone.. This is a follow up from my original post on battery drain afte the Feb update. I had the opportunity to speak / text with a rep at google to discuss this topic. I went to a level ll tech and the guy assisiting me had me put the phone in safe mode. I went ahead and charged the phone to 100%. See instructions below if want to do this yourself as a test.

Keep in mind....

In Safe Mode, you have the basic text, phone call, playstore and web Chrome available. Everthing else will be disabled. I went ahead and put the phone through its paces by using the Chrome web for Twitter, reading web pages etc. I tried to emulate by daily usage. Its a harder way to do things but at least you can see how the battery is performing. After 6 hours of usage on /off, I still had 65% of battery left.

I think we will either see a quick patch come out shortly or March update will be released soon.

Safe mode on your device.

In safe mode, all third-party applications will be disabled. This can help pinpoint issues caused by third-party installed apps. To restart your device in safe mode:

Ensure your device's screen is on, then press & hold the Power button.

Touch & hold the Power off option in the dialog box.

Touch OK in the following dialog to start safe mode.

To exit safe mode, turn your device off and on again.

It's recommended that you try safe mode for a few hours or up to a full day, if able.

If the issue persists, please write back to us with the following information so that I can verify and proceed further:
