Best cleaning solution for LCD screen

I use baby wipes to clean my Hero and my HDTV. **** works better then the LCD cleaning solution I bought from Best Buy.

That's the first I've heard that the Evo has a plastic cover; everything I've heard is glass.

That said, as a chemist I can assure you that 30% iPrOH / water is not going to touch or mar the kinds of plastics that'd be used for something like this. That solution is very hydrophilic, and isn't going to penetrate to any significant effect.

One warning: use sparingly. There are two water indicator patches on the inside of the phone, so that Sprint can tell if the phone got wet. This solution would trigger those patches if they were to come into contact and Sprint could get huffy if you tried to bring the phone in under warranty or insurance. So don't slop the solution around - just wet the cloth and rub gently.

OK, it looks like my info about a plastic screen was wrong and that it is actually glass -- that's good news...

Yep, I'm aware that most phones have moisture sensors and I do make an effort to minimize the amount of 30% IPA I use. I should also add that when I enter the clean room at work I have to wipe my phone down with a clean room wipe with DI water. Water is nearly as good as 30% IPA but if you've been eating wings and get the screen dirty with your greasy fingers it helps to have something with a little solvent action that can cut through the grease a bit better. Also, IPA will tend to pull water away and evaporates quickly.

steel wool or 80 grit sand paper if I cannot find any steel wool.

Man, so many half measures, I'd say go the full 9 and use a die grinder with Carborundum disk! And not one of the wussy *ssed electric die grinders either.

I am cleaning my laptops screen with a paper towel and windex . Works like a charm , cleans everything , no streaks . Could try that for the Evo . I am going to second alcohol as a cleaning solution for anything that goes in my hands .

HUH? English please LOL

That was written in English. Meh, some grammar or prose criticisms come to mind, but rather lucid communication. ;-)

I've used a 30% solution of IPA and distilled water along with a micro-fiber cloth to clean the glass over the 3G iPhone LCD but the Evo has a plastic cover over the LCD and I'm not sure I want to experiment with 30% IPA without confirmation. So, what's the deal with cleaning solutions and plastic covered LCD screens?

Brian

And I always thought that an IPA was just a delicious beer! :p

You do NOT want to use Ammonia on any plastic so even with a glass screen the rest of the case is plastic so do not use any product that has Ammonia in it.

Windex has used Ammonia in the past put there may be formulas that do not use it. Still, better to use nothing but water and a microfiber cloth. That alone is more than enough most of the time. I have a spray bottle with 30% IPA and give one small spray on the glass then wipe it clean and use the very slightly dampened micro fiber cloth to clean the rest of the case.

I was concerned about the Evo because I'd heard it had a plastic cover over the LCD screen but later word is that it's glass.

See my note at the end ... but any product with Ammonia in it can yellow plastic. It won't happen right off the bat, but over time it will tend to yellow.

When in doubt a slightly dampened (with water) micro fiber cloth will work nicely most of the time. I use 30% IPA because it is mostly water but with just enough IPA to help cut through finger prints and greasy crud.

That's right about ammonia. I personally only use Fountonium on all my electronics and it works great. Price is the best I've found too for this sort of thing.
