Bingo! I finally figured out how to get things straight in my Droid X 2.2 update

Man... I really need to do this, I've been putting it off because it will take so long to set everything back up again, plus I'm not sure I remember my VZW pin for backup assistant...

My X has been really buggy for a while (even before 2.2), and it just keeps getting worse. :/

Sadly I'm still having issues even after a few factory resets. I'm just writing them off as issues with Froyo that need to be fixed in general.

I'm having issues with my google search lagging horribly, even though I've cleared the cache out properly.

Having issues selecting contacts from said google search as well. Kicks me back to the search screen when I select them from the menu.

Having a ton of issues with my music player just crashing and locking up. Especially if I use the visualizations and the like. It's somewhat baffling.

I was having terrible, terrible issues with the music player after the Froyo update. I did this factory wipe and reset method yesterday and music seeeeems ok. I'll find out for real tomorrow during the commute.

I was also having the bad lag with Google Search and that seems to be gone now. However, I am seeing the Contact selection bug in Google Search.

As you stated, there are some general bugs in this 2.2 release and Moto has to fix them.

Wow, Im running 2.1 rooted, with LP+, and I couldnt wait to ugrade to 2.2 but now Im thinking Im glad I havent pulled the trigger yet. Im on my 2nd X and was sent a 3rd, but it was a refurb and obviously used so I sent it back without activating it. Even with all this, I still love it. My friend at work has a Dinc and I couldnt see myself switching to it. The colors are off too much for me.

So, what's the verdict? Still good?

Hi All... So I went through and did this today, no problems and the Quadrant score bumped up a little, so yay. But, one question... After the initial 2.2 rollout, I did a factory reset via the Privacy settings and Factory Data Reset method. After doing that, I had to go through the process of re-activating my phone (where you have to dial a phone number and all that). But after resetting my phone via the method outlined in this thread, I did not have to do that. Just curious as to why? Thanks!

Just did the reset and everything went smoothly. I dont know why i waited this long before trying it. My only complaint, which has nothing to do with this guide, is the sms bug still isn't fixed, I was hoping for it but hopefully Motorola will update our devices sooner than later.

Anyway, like droidrat said, I did not have to dial the phone number too. Weird but hey, everything works great right now and i can't complain.

Thanks again for the guide!

Sadly, no. My Google Search still locks up sometimes, no matter which keyboard I'm typing with. The music app is still a little hokey at times, the camera app just decides to not even open at random times now. Also, I tried watching a video on my commute today (a .mp4 which alwayssss had worked) and the device didn't recognize the file. I tried playing a video I actually shot WITH the X and it said it couldn't play it either. A reboot fixes these issues but it is very upsetting. I guess Froyo was ****ed from the beginning. Moto really needs to release an update to fix these issues.

I am thinking of calling and getting a replacement X (it would be my 4th!) but I don't even know if it would fix these issues as they seem inherent to 2.2 in general.

Edit: However, doing this wipe DID fix some things that were pissing me off. So that's good.

First, I've had very few problems with Froyo to begin with. Things are generally smoother, faster, and battery life has been better. However, I noticed that playing videos no longer works, and using the camcorder just crashes to Home after I press the record button. My friend has the same issue and was the one that actually brought it to my attention (since I don't watch videos or use the camcorder on my phone to begin with ).

I did some Google searching and people have been reporting camera and/or camcorder issues post-Froyo.

I searched through the pages of these replies, but didn't see anything here about it. Does performing this fix as stated in the original post fix this video camcorder issue?

Not for me, it hasn't. Yesterday my camera/camcorder app would just crash automatically.

Okay, so I did a test.

First, I unmounted and remounted my SD card (through the Options), thinking maybe it would fix the video/camcorder issue. Video playback and camcorder still not working. Youtube also wouldn't work, and my music no longer worked (when it had previously), saying that the file types weren't supported.

I shut off the phone, pulled the battery and pulled the SD card. Put back the battery and turned on the phone (without the SD card), used it for a few hours (I was at Starbucks on my laptop anyway).

Then when I got home I turned it off, put back the SD card, turned it back on. So far, everything, including music, video playback, Youtube, and camcorder, are working just fine and dandy.

Not sure if it'll work for everyone, but so far, so good.

I have a DROID X inbound from Verizon tomorrow.

Does anyone know if they are coming with 2.2, or will I need to upgrade amd follow the procedure in POST #1.

Obviously Newbie here.

George

Most likely it will, mine did today. It still has "restore data" ticked off by default. Mine wasn't freshly reset either... Either way it comes, do a factory reset and make sure the backup and restore options in privacy settings are ticked off before you log into any accounts. That should be all you need to do.

For what it's worth, I'm told by a Motorola supervisor that they are investigating some of the bugs and general problems with the 2.2 update and this thread is one that they are using for "input/feedback". Supposedly. I've talked to various levels of support and management at Motorola... So far they seem to be listening more than they're doing. I hope they really are working on a bug fix..

Yeah...we all do. Personally I'm disgusted by how botched this release is. My OG Motorola Droid on 2.1 was essentially bug-free and now we move onto this. I am considering leaving Motorola when I choose my next Android device.

I upgraded OTA to 2.2 and was having bugs. (music player, etc). I just completed the steps on this post.
I formated the card under the "Settings" of the phone. I hope that was correct or was I supposed to format the card in Windows?
The strange thing is after the factory restore I never really had to activate the phone. I did it on its own. Everything was wiped and I had the first screen where you press the adroid mascot logo but never had to activate the phone.
It's too soon for me to tell if I still have any bugs. Does this sound ok?

formatting the card in phone is fine. You should know if you formatted, all of your apps would be missing, accounts etc. if you're unsure, just format again.

I want to do this, but wondering if I need to. I just activated my phone on Thursday (21st) and did the update on the (23rd).

I had only downloaded one free app prior to doing the 2.2 update.

Do I need to do this (step-by-step on page 1)?

I've read through this entire thread and saw a few people mention the "texting bug." What is this problem exactly?

I guess I don't know if I'm having any problems. Even if I don't do this, should I uncheck "automatic restore"?

I believe the texting bug is a problem with your phone not keeping your texts in chronological order. They come in and get mixed up in your "inbox".

Text Msg - Maybe Not Bug

I think the text messaging issue is not really one, but rather a difference of operation.

I noticed that messages sent, but not yet replied to, remain at the top of the text messaging list. Or are pushed to the top at the time i sent them. Then, whomsoever replies first, the message response drops to the bottom of the list of messages that have not been replied to as of yet, but remains at the top of the list of messages that have been replied to already. (in sequential order).

So to me it's not really a bug, seems intentional, just very different from what everyone is accustomed to.

I'm following the steps as outlined, but things start to go wrong when I get to step 8.

My phone boots as normal. It doesn't allow me to "skip" through.

I am disabling the the "back up my data" and "automatic restore" options under the "privacy" tab before I do the reset.

Any advice?

Thank you.
