Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Agreed. I think CK enjoys setting himself for disappointment, regrets and recriminations. ;) I mean, heck, Nvidia announced Kal-El just a couple months ago and said it would be ready by August. That's just to go to the manufacturers to get all familiar and cozy with it. Tegra 2 was announced in Jan. of 2010 and didn't see its first actual device outing until Mar. 2011.

Sometimes too much knowledge can actually be bad for your mental health. Waiting for that bestest ever smartphone can turn into Waiting for Godot.

You will see. People tend to overthink things. A + B has gotta equal C......bzzzzzzzzz wrong! Tech moves fast and the mobile market is gaining momentum by the hour. Your thinking is already behind the curve :) Tech is a World Class Olympic Sprinter. You don't stay ahead of her she will run right past you.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who get binary and those that don't. But, honey, your brain is watching Star Trek DSN while manufacturers are just completing episodes of NG. ;)

On that note, gotta get to bed and see a man about a brain tumor in the morning. Sounds fascinating no matter which end you're on that one, eh? lol

this was just posted by kbman over at HoFo. while he is talking about the Atrix 4G having an unlockable bootloader, maybe this is the what the 3rd rev is about???

Its not an engineering build that kennethpenn has, it is a prerelease retail build.
He also has a secured stock device. This does work and it does require adb to use the fastboot oem unlock, like the Xoom.

This is very exciting news for a lot of reasons!

Exclusive: Atrix 4G Bootloader Unlocked with Android 2.3 Update - BriefMobile

So it sounds like they're on the final testing revision then. If that's the case, it can't be more than a month away, though it obviously depends on whether they just got that prerelease retail build or they've had it for a bit.

Except with the correct programming a quad core phone would take less power than a single or dual core.

As someone who designs embedded systems, I'd like to know where you got this info. A quad core will take slightly less power than 4 single cores, but less than a single core? Show me the evidence please.

So this is a little off-topic, but does anyone have any clue as to when we'll start seeing 28nm Cortex-A15 SoC's in released devices?

It is more than a year away, maybe the end of next year, maybe 2013. Depends on how good the first chips are (and if you believe the release schedule the manufacturers publish).

I'm willing to bet you won't see a quad core phone until mid to late q2 2012.

Some OEM will push out a quad phone early, but a decent quad core phone is a ways off. NVidia is thinking like the PC market, but the best words on the box as opposed to the best chip in the phone. I would avoid the quad core chatter for awhile.
The first quad core stuff will probably be tablets, a different configuration makes more sense for phones (which will probably be marketed as quad core, but it isn't what you think it is).

nope, other than what Kellex posted. i posted on HoFo, asking whether the 3rd rev. was going to be prior to release, or whether that is referring to development beginning on the next generation (ie, Bionic 2). wnrussell, Winston, et al. haven't responded. so, looks like it's still up in the air...

I don't comment on development stuff like that and anything like that would be outside wnrussell's view.

To much discussion on a "3rd revision" without have a clue what that would even mean. Hell, I can think of a dozen different things that could mean and of those 12 at least 10 are things you would never notice because they are under the hood.

that makes sense. Kellex' reference to a "3rd revision" was pretty cryptic and vague. i was just wondering whether it (assuming "it" is even valid to begin with) was something going on now, or whether it might be for a future device. from what you've said, sounds like it's not something to get too worked up over. thanks for the response!

LOL! It's that damn Alzheimer's I tell ya.

Back to the subject, it still remains that Phil himself said July, no?

i think that's true. but, people over at HoFo have said "about" 4 weeks after D3 release. in fact, kbman just posted this morning that it's looking like Aug or even Sept. personally, i think a July release is just fantasy - it will be mid to late Aug, or Sept. my personal speculation is the Thursday before Labor Day weekend...

You got Winston who already said it will be released at least a month after the D3. Nuff said :) if that's not good enough CZ said the same thing.

Save yourselves the aggravation and letdown of thinking its going to be a july release.

And commenting on that tweet from Motorola, They've been using that SAME EXACT response before. I don't think they're on a 3rd revision. check this out.
