Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Is there any information about when the Galaxy S II will come to Verizon? At this point, it seems like the Bionic wont be out for months, so if the Galaxy S II comes out before, I'm jumping on that.

Im still speculating unlimited will end after i5 or bionic drops. I still dont see any other reason for vzw to wait at this point. I'm willing to bet originally they figured these phones would be out and they would be able to capitalize on an impeding doom, errr, impending tier plan. If they switch now, people will run out to stay unlimited rather than go tiered, therefore hurting sales on new equipment. They already have us by the froyos, but they also know unlimited is too good to lose. It would be smart business on their part to release their flagship devices with the fact that tiered follows right behind. They don't want to turn us off on future gear like bionic or i5 due to the new plans. I'm also willing to bet moto or even apple doesn't like that. Especially moto. They have surely gone over budget and will not want to lose anymore sales than they have too.

That's what I've been thinking from the beginning, I would think VZW would want to launch all four of the initial LTE devices announced at CES, giving each manufacturer a bit of time to sell devices with unlimited data before switching, and all subsequent devices would be under tiered. It doesn't really seem fair to Moto to be the only one of the four without the opportunity to sell phones with unlimited LTE. However, I'm guessing Moto has lost their "preferred manufacturer" status by now anyway, and VZW may feel that missing out is well-deserved with this Bionic fiasco. Verizon had hoped to have a market-leading flagship device by now, and they don't so they're stuck pushing the Charge instead.

I like the Charge, and again, every day I get closer to just grabbing one. But hardware-wise it isn't the fastest thing on the market. I'm still hoping that they wait to let Moto sell with unlimited for awhile, and that all this pressure from better phones and ATT's LTE network will force VZW and Moto to go ahead and bring this to market. As I said, I know its difficult to get such a revolutionary (no pun intended) new device to market this quickly, but if you can't handle difficult, you have no business being in the highly competitive mobile device market.

Again, if it has OMAP4, it'll still be a market-leading device no matter when it launches. However, if its not till August, public perception will see it as yet another dual-core Android, and I'm afraid the iPhone5 will still outshine it. If they drop it in the next few weeks, it will be the best phone in the United States hands down, and VZW and Moto will make a killing with it. Neither company's executives could be blind to this fact. I don't know why they've kept so quiet about it, but my thinking is that they don't want to release ANYTHING until its ready, then they'll launch it ASAP. If so, they would lock down all info very tight, and either hide everything from people they know have leaked info in the past (generally a good viral marketing strategy) or simply made them sign non-disclosure agreements and they can't tell us anything.

Its this reasoning that makes me want to keep waiting a bit longer. But if I do find out its not coming till August, and unlimited will end before it launches, I'll just grab a Charge now. I don't understand why they refuse to tell anyone that, however. For now, the wait continues...

Oh, and Jasper, I remember that tweet from BMX, don't read anything into it. He was ranting that night about having more choice and an open marketplace, and was full of great ideas like that. It was really interesting, but he even said it was nothing more than his own idea, its not "leaked info" or anything, just fyi.

Well said Cruiserdude. I agree with your assessment. It makes much more sense to get this thing released sometime in June if at all possible. I will probably hold out for another 2 or 3 weeks and get the Charge also if we still know nothing further.

Can only hope. Seems to be very logical, and the best way for Verizon and Moto to make some money....

So, is the Bionics's release delay considered a Blunder on Motorola's behalf? Or Verizon's? Both?
I find it hard to believe a number of CES attendees come by the Motorola booth and drop a few comments and "Due to feedback" we have postponed, yadda yadda yadda...

I'd get the Revolution over the Charge any day, but that's just me. The Revolution and the Thunderbolt have a newer chip than the Charge. The Hummingbird that it has is from the Galaxy S devices that all launched last year.

Does anyone else find it hilarious that the Bionic was initially billed as "The End of Waiting" at CES and in the promo materials?

I was tired of waiting and bought the Charge the day after it was released. Is it laggy from time to time? Yes. But overall it is a great phone and now I only check this thread once a day (as opposed to every hour or two BC - before Charge). I have another upgrade to burn in a few months, so now I may skip the Bionic altogether and wait for a dual core LTE with NFC.

At first, yes. Now, no.

Lets hope some of that so-called feed back at CES was "WHAT!?! A LOCKED Boot loader! Hell Nooooo! Webtop? Can I turn it off? NO? You can keep that POS, it's shaped just like an iPhone. No wonder you have all the horsepower in it. It needs it to run the crap-top.

The Bionic didn't have WebTop at CES. The bootloader was a problem, but WebTop was never an issue.

Not to mention the whole "consumer feedback from CES" thing was just PR cover for "the Etna has fatal flaws and cannot be completed, therefore this device is being scrapped and the Bionic name will now grace another device we had in the pipeline", seemingly the Targa. Granted, they are trying to make improvements while they have the chance, and will almost certainly be giving it Webtop, but most of us realize the real reason was the Etna was DOA.

It was all an attempt to avoid killing their stocks by announcing that they were not successful in building the device as announced, though their stocks seem to have taken a well-deserved plunge anyway. Nobody cancels a device they were about to launch just because everyone asked for more RAM, that would be stupid. If they did, nothing would ever get released from anyone.

I will not buy a phone with WebTop on it. I hope to god that Verizon gets an Evo 3D competitor with LTE out of HTC ASAP.

Well they are saying its a new spec period. Adding RAM isnt really a new spec. Sure its not the original amount announced but I would hardly call that new hardware. Im wondering if these changes were radical in nature. Moto knows they are going to have to bring it on now that it has been withheld. Let us hope the specs are truly wow. Lets pretend that they have the worlds first quad core proto and they are going to surprise us and smash the i5 in the mouth. Not going to happen but if everyone is making rumors why not start our own? Lol seriously though, I am holding on for this new phone until the unlimited runs out. If the unlimited does end then I will change phones to something else. And as said earlier, everyone knows that the i5 will be the phone to beat period. Lets hope moto has what it takes. I waited for the elusive storm 3 until 3 or 4 months ago so this wait is nothing. All those promises of a new qnx os and a revolutionary storm on the horizon for nothing :_(. And by the way, bmx and ck thanks for what you guys have teased us with. Even when you werent and we took it a whole different direction, its been a fun ride for me. Same goes to all the leakers out there. Unless you lied.... I hope you fall into a vat of bacon grease. Then meet a wild pack of wolves. With lasers. Lmao

Switching SoCs during a phone's development process has to be a huge change in how the phone turns out. The entire phone is pretty much laid out around the underlying components and then built up from there. The Targa will be a drastically different device than what we saw at CES if the rumors and are true.

The specs won't be any more radical than what the rumors say they are, IMO. The device would be freaking awesome if it were to have the OMAP dual-core and LTE with solid battery life.

Webtop is fine for me. But paying a monthly fee for webtop is just WTF?

Makes no sense at all. We already pay for the data plan. We already pay for the dock. Why are we paying a fee to use the dock?
