Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

I thought they scrapped the original for "improvements". It seems like some things have taken a step back possibly. So the improvements are more ram (which half is used for webtop), webtop, and the processor actually works on handoffs:p

Did they improve the ffc?

Well, I think the statement on "improvements" was as much PR-speak as anything else. Moto/Verizon had to cover for the failures in the hardware and the need to modify the device to fix them. That said, there are improvements in hardware, albeit maybe only slight improvements.

Originally it was at 1930 and that's pretty darn good, us they held it back to bump.up.the specs so I don't think either of us willbe disappointed

The processor and baseband are two different chips and different manufacturers. While TI provides the CPU, Qualcomm provides the CDMA radio chipset.
Correct, the processor and baseband are two different things. He is correct that they use Qualcomm for the CDMA processors. My original comment was to illustrate that Motorola does not use Qualcomm for application processors. I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola weren't working on their OWN CPU chip. Sanjay marvelled at how Samsung is vertically integrated. This debacle with the Bionic may have them working on that, either through development or acquisition. BTW, I tried a Samsung Charge for 13 days. Awesome device, HORRIBLE battery life (not as bad as TB) and it runs HOT. I mean REAL HOT. Can't wait for BIONIC.

Wrong. Droid X, X2 and Droid 2 use TI

Wow, you are wrong in correcting me, and just to add insult to injury you are wrong in your bad information.

Qualcomm provides the baseband chips, which is what the discussion was about.

Oh, and the X2 uses a NVidia application processor not TI.

Wow - why does everyone state unequivocally that half the RAM is exclusive to WebTop. I have yet to have anyone provide concrete evidence to support that claim.

CK provided a link, which I believe was earlier in this thread. And I think the link was to XDA Developers site. Basically, my understanding is that what they found with the Atrix was that the WebTop OS was running all the time regardless of whether you were using it or not; thus, taking up resources that may be better served for other purposes. And the fact that you couldn't unload it or prevent it from loading, particularly if WebTop was not being used (or would ever be used), seemed to be a waste. If I'm wrong on that, someone please correct me.

That is my understanding too, and if the bionic is the same, I will surly never consider it. I don't care if weptop is possible, but if I have to allocate resources to maintain it plugged in or not, I don't want it. To bad, because motorola had been on such a good roll :(

I don't recall an XDA link and, on a VERY cursory search didn't see anything that looked like an explanation of how WebTop worked.

I do recall the motodev link alludes to the fact that WebTop is always running.

However, always running is a FAR cry from 'I've got half your RAM and you can't use it for anything else.'
