Your comments clearly show you have not seen or used the display. If you did use it you didn't look beyond the homescreen or you simply weren't paying attention. I don't just make things up. That would be pretty ridiculous.

At any rate, even if they do use it it doesn't mean its a bad thing. Some people wont even care. Its a deal breaker for some and others could care less. That's usually the way these things are.

Yes, if you grossly over magnify the screen you will see the grid pattern of the pixels and pentile looks very different than RGB stripe. This is not inherently worse, just different.

If one does any research on pentile you would find that there is a lot of imaging science involved behind the scenes. What most people state regarding 1/3 less subpixels is a gross oversimplification of the technology.

Will I like pentile? I have no idea yet, but to state unequivocally that, since you see issues with it, everybody should is a bit egocentric.

This is ridiculous. It's like I'm on crack. Every hour on the hour, I'm checking this flippin forum for something, anything. I got the shakes, I've lost 50lbs, my wife and kids left me.. Wait, scratch that last part.

I never said that. Quite the opposite. If you had read my ENTIRE posts about this topic you would have seen: "even if they do use it it doesn't mean its a bad thing. Some people wont even care. Its a deal breaker for some and others could care less. That's usually the way these things are."

Sounds like me last year when they ran out of Dinc's! (Ahhh... those were the days! When a man knew exactly what he wanted... But a measly shortage of amoled screens from Samsung kept him from having his dream come true!) LOL

I played with one for a good length of time, and compared it to the G2X I had at the time. The Atrix was NOWHERE near as bad as any of the other Pentile displays I've used. (I've had a Nexus One and a Nexus S) The pentile was barely noticeable compared to the G2X, except for the areas I mentioned. Text display was not bad, nor was anything else. The ONLY areas I noticed it was in color reproduction and the way bright colors were displayed.

As others have said, just because it might bother you doesn't mean it is as bad as you claim it is, or that the population at large will notice it.

Like I said before, I haven't spent much time looking at pentile displays, so I don't know if this will effect me or not. My only issue with what you're saying CK is that you are stating it as fact that the flaws are obvious when there are several people(including Winston) who say that the vast majority of people WON'T be able to notice it. I'll reserve judgement until I can play with one, but maybe you should back off this a little CK. Maybe its not just a case of noticing it and being ok with it but in many cases it might not be noticeable at all.
 
At this point, my guess is that whenever this phone comes out 84% of all people that responded in this post will get the phone.

there is little to no arguement, if its noticeable or not.

The point is if that type of display bothers people, and like people said it more than likely wont. It is even more likely the same people who complain about pentile display probably never seen it in real life. SOme people just listen to reviewers on a site and never think for themselves.

Would i rather have SGII's display, sure its nicer, but thats like putting a lamborghini next to a ferrari, again to some people thats how much they see the difference.

colors don't bother me on a screen. I think it was you who brought up a good point. When a handset is by itself you can't really notice bluish whites or washed out colors etc etc. It's only when you have another point of reference (side by side)that things stand out. But again some people notice these things right off without even comparing.
 
exactly, i feel people overblow the whole pentile screen sooo out of proportion its not even funny. I bet its the same people that screams for the best dual core, 2gig of ram, 13MP camera. Is it the best possible screen available? probably not. But if it really saves as much battery as they say, then im all for it.

Couldn't agree with you more. I played with my boss' Atrix long before I ever heard of this whole pentile thang and never noticed anything remotely annoying or grainy or whatever. In fact, compared to my OG Droid, it looked beautiful. All the pics they show of the pentile screens are over-magnified beyond belief and not anywhere near how they appear to the naked eye.

I swear that half the people ranting about pentiles are mimicing what they've read on blogs without any experience with them. "Oh, I hear those pentiles are bad...I'm not going to get a pentile."

If it looks good to me and the specs and UI smoothness are better than any other phone I consider at the time, I couldn't give a **** what they call the screen. Right now, I think my comparisons will be between the Photon, Bionic and Samsung S2 and two carriers. And, surprisingly, maybe even the new unnamed LG in Sprint's ID could prove interesting considering it might possibly have a physical keyboard.
