Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

I want to lose my Android vcard to the Bionic but I may settle for the Thunderbolt and ensure I get grandfathered into the unlimited data plan

Correct me if I'm wrong.... If I buy a new phone off-contract, then I can do an ESN change and keep my unlimited data plan, right?

The whole "grandfathering" is all speculation, but would make sense. That said, they may differentiate between 3G and 4G plans. I believe thats why people are opting for a 4G device beforehand to make sure that they are on a 4G plan before tiered pricing goes into effect.

That is what I plan on doing if possible. It will either be grandfathering and you keep the contract you signed or a change of contract which at least gives you the option to break it and go month to month if you want with no charges.
But then hell, the tiered might be priced better and I may want it. All maters how much 5GB will be I guess.

Exactly how i feel. If 5GB remains $30 then its fine with me, ill wait for Bionic.

But if its anything like whats being speculated right now, then no way. Ill get a Charge and Grandfather in with off contract purchases of phones in the future.

4 Days with my Charge and I'm up to 500 megs - 3 weeks with my Eris and I'm at 800 megs. All of this with a signal strength of 0-1 bars AND on 3G only.

I don't think I'll be happy with a bandwidth cap and a 4G phone...

The Xoom is not a failure. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Atrix? Maybe. But I think your overstating how badly they're doing.

Almost every review I've read about the Xoom suggested it was overweight, overpriced and not ready for prime-time. What about the Laptop Dock and the Droid X2? Motorola Mobility's stock price has dropped 30% since the beginning of the year - I don't think I'm overstating their poor performance.

How could they be lying if the information they had at the time supported their statements? Because that's what it boils down to. The statements they gave were accurate then. In the course of the Bionic's development, they ran into serious issues, most of which did not come to a head until it had reached the widest phase of testing.

I don't buy it - Motorola knew the Bionic was doomed months ago but denied the rumors in an effort to buy time so they could fast-track a new platform. When the first reports about heat problems with the Bionic emerged NVIDIA's stock took a hit. If Wall Street knew the CES version of the Bionic was dead I'm sure the Motorola executives knew too.

As for the point about keeping people informed; I'm not aware of any company on the planet that keeps its potential customers informed about the development of their products. It just doesn't happen. They've said pretty much all they needed to, and that was that there is a new Bionic coming that fixes a lot of the deficiencies of the original. there's not much else to say.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Using your logic, why did Motorola even show the Bionic at CES?

As another example, look at the efforts GM and Nissan made to promote the Volt and Leaf while they were in development. Both companies were promoting their vehicles for well over a year before they reached production. There was no risk of cannibalizing their own sales since neither company had a vehicle that competed in that market segment.

To my original point, what are the odds that a company that has made so many mistakes can deliver an outstanding product witthout any issues?

i mean slow forum day

Atleast most of these people waiting are on a Smartphone of some sort. Im using a dummy phone, sort of, with no data plan.

Msot these guys got a Droid or something to keep busy. I got nothing.
I'm in the same boat as well. The waiting isn't too bad...all the bickering/knee jerk reactions have been quite amusing.

I'm still carrying my RAZR on my hip and my Franklin Planner PDA and Video player in my backpack. I really am anxious to roll them all into a Bionic on my hip. Even after waiting this long it still gets tiring.:D

History will repeat itself eventually. Motorola is doing the same thing that got them into trouble in 06 when their market share plummeted to the single digits. Failure to innovate.

Incremental upgrades to their existing handsets and zero innovation will be their doom. What a shame. One would think they would have learned their lesson.

The problem is that they're dead-set on Blur. They don't realize that the Droids made them popular because they were stock or close to it. The more Blur they put on the phones, the worse they get. But it seems like Jha himself is leading the Blur push.

Sounds like a page from RIM's "playbook," pardon the pun!
