Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Imagine if the Bionic really was released before Tiered Data came out and all our *****ing and fears would be for nothing. Of course this won't happen, but still would be nice.

I personally a STILL worried that since you have to activate 4G phones differently than 3G phones, that they will differentiate between the two and if I keep my 3G DX and upgrade to the Bionic AFTER 7/7, that they will count it as a change of service and tier me. People are pointing out that data is data as of now, but if they change that later, I will be pissed. The only thing keeping me from getting the Charge before 7/7 is the hope that this will stay the same for me.

Im in the same exact situation. Here is to hoping we get grandfathered. Instead of grandmothered, where vzw tells us to go pick a switch from the tree.

Fair enough...now let's see if OXN delivers again with the goods.

The straight faced rep when asked by Oxn if he knew anything about the Bionic the straight faced rep, who by the way was totally straight faced the ENTIRE time, began to smile and said "NO" .That's huge right there if you didn't know.

Keep in mind he was straight faced the WHOLE time not just MOST of the time. History has shown that reps withhold valuable and secret information and the smile from the straight faced rep indicate there was some wink wink deception going on in this exchange.

I'd say based on Oxns smartly played ploy to extract information from a straight faced rep that the Bionic is going to be released in July.

Personally I would have waterboarded the guy but going from being straight faced the entire time to grinning and dropping a huge bomb like "NO" is pretty solid evidence something is cooking.

Haha you fun ruiner.

Forgot to mention that Oxn really stressed to focus on the word ALL. As in ALL he said was "no"

This is key.

Forgive me if I am missing something, But... The new tiered data plans still want you to pay an additional $20 to be able to tether (rediculous). But if you are "grandfathered" what will they charge you for tethering? and will they put a cap on it at that point?

Are you asking if they will cap the data limit? I'd be willing to pay the tether fee if I keep unlimited. But there is a hidden cap. They dont like it when you bust the 5 gig and 10 gig points. They have dropped service in the past for abusers.

Since it sounds like most of us will still have unlimited data, what will they charge us for tethering? and will they cap the tethering for those of us with unlimited data plans?? does that make sense?

Ugh! Every time I hear the Bionic will need to release After the D3 I get car sick. To me the D3 is a dated design as shown, just an overgrown D1.

I'm going on record saying the D3 will be a sales flop.

I have to respectfully disagree Gapi, and not just because its you.:D But My thinking is the D3 will sell very well, far surpassing sales of the DX2. A LOT of folks out there really like the physical keyboard, and this phone is supposed to be a beast, as well as have an improved camera over the DX2. Guess we will have to wait for the fat lady to sing though. :)

p.s.
With latest rumor of the 3rd revision of the Bionic taking place, if it comes out looking different it doesn't mean the pictures we saw were "fake" :p

The current Tethering Plan is data capped already, same as the 3g/4g modems.

That said, I do not know how the current plan affects unlimited data under current conditions, which is what I believe you where asking about? (IE if you use 5gb on your phone, and then tether 1gb of data, you've technically "used" 6GB, but only "tethered" 1 GB). Any clarification on how the current tethering package actually works out with unlim data would be apreciated.

If you where asking about whether someone who was grandfathered into unlimited data, is then forced to tiered data by purchasing a tethering option addon, then I don't believe there is enough info available on that, yet. My gut feeling says that it doesn't/shouldn't, but again I'm not entirely positive on how the tethering plans currently interact with unlimited data, as I refused to pay for a "make believe" product when there are free tethering options available.

edit: Lastly, if you where implying that paying an extra $20 to tether if you are already data capped via tiered data, and have rightfully purchased a set amount of data is stupid, and a bogus way to generate revenue from a "fake product". Then I agree.... Honestly, I will do everything I can to hold on to unlim data, and then do whatever I have to (Root/PDANET/ETC), in order to have the OPTION to tether if I need to (my building's internet seriously sucks, and goes out frequently).... If VZW just came forward and said, "You are already data capped, w/e go tether if you want" I would swap to tiered in a heartbeat.

I am just curious if the current Tethering plan is going to be changing for those of us that will still have unlimited data, and yes how do they differentiate your phones usage of unlimited vs. the object that is tethered to it? I am just confused on this subject still.

I'm assuming they will if you buy the dock.

Bmx has told us before vzw knows when we tether root or legit. so I'm sure they track the two uses of data. Ie phone vs tether. What I want to know is just how much data gets used during games like cod to see if it's even a viable alternative for when I travel to a hotel with shirk shifty internet.

In fact I noticed my tether wifi garden kept dropping on me a few weeks ago when I was rooted. It would work for a few minutes then drop. Could have just been me though. I was in a hospital and my reception wasn't as good. Never bothered to research it.

I can only speak from the perspective of a pc gamer, and only have a month and a half of data/4games I can report on from last summer when I was about to move, and my internet subscription ended 1.5months before my lease......

Team Fortress 2: First Person Shooter game, playable but not good latency wise (~200ms)... but data wise this game/genre are a no-go. You use something unsustainable data wise, and it basically consumes data at full download speed. Could easily rack up your entire monthly tether allowance in a few hours. Basically playing a game like this makes makes you "that guy" that is getting tethering hated on.

World of Warcraft (MMO): I've actually tethered wow many times, mostly when my regular internet connection is having a bad day.. The data use depends on what you are doing, as much of the data transmitted comes from other players. If you are alone, leveling or something, you can use less than 50MB in 5+ hours, it's pretty reasonable honestly. If you are doing something like battlegrounds, or arenas +skype you can expect higher numbers. Highest single day total from WoW I ever had, was ~350MB, while I had the flu, and literally played something like 10+hours. A reasonable day spends between 30-120 depending on what you are doing.

Starcraft (RTS): I don't play this anymore, and only tethered it once, so this is somewhat anecdotal, but I remember the data consumption to be surprisingly low. Don't remember ever clearing 75MB let alone 100MB in a single days play

Assassin's Creed (Single player, but requires constant internet connection): The connection doesn't actually do anything but ping a server or something, I've never gone past like 5mb. If you are going to tether for gaming, this is the type of game where you are screwing the network the absolute least, because literally a youtube video is more taxing to the network.

Bmx is not a truly reliable source

Thank you drosul, I know I can't use tethering for that then lol.

And bmx may not be the most reliable either, but I figured if he worked at vzw he would know somethings. Didn't ATT also start ban hammering tetherers that weren't paying for it?
