Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Yeah Jasper I do A LOT of reading so I noticed it right away. Like I said before you may or may not be bothered by it.

I just wish instead of trying to cut costs they would go with a better overall quality screen.

Maybe they went with what they feel IS better overall quality. I haven't taken a close look at the pentile display or the Super Amoled+ screen but it seems to be an issue of to each their own. I know you hate the pentile display CK, but I've read just as many people here and on HoFo who hate the SAMOLED+ and think the color is oversaturated. Like everything else in the smartphone world, you have to go with what's best for you. I don't think its fair to bash a company for using a display that 99% of their target customers seem like they will be very happy with. just my $.02

The D1 is nice. I'll be going down to Verizon to see the DX2 side by side with it.

Other than Battery savings, and I have not heard to what degree of savings, I believe I read its better than some in the Sun also.

I highly doubt this. I believe it was primarily done to cut costs.
I disagree. Motorola has more cash in the bank than they really should have. My guess is the battery life issue. I have owned the Droid Eris, Droid Incredible, Droid X, and the Droid Charge. Took the Charge back because there's nothing worse than wondering if you can use your phone for fear it may run out of battery. The Droid X battery life is outstanding compared to many other devices. I assume the screen has something to do with it, not solely though. Also, I think the screen on my DX is more than adequate. I do like the SAMOLED better, but it's not that big of a deal to me. It's less than five inches. Much bigger concern on say a TV.

I will agree battery life was another thing that went into the decision.

You also have to consider that some of the major issues with Pentile displays are mitigated by the qHD resolution. That increased resolution goes a long way towards addressing the issues.

I had a Nexus One with Pentile, and it was awful. It was extremely noticeable in anything with color. The text not so much.

A few weeks ago I went to play with an Atrix at AT&T and the ONLY area I noticed the pentile was in bright colors. Text on web pages was no different. Text ANYWHERE wasn't any different.

I really think you're making a mountain out of a mole-hill, especially since we have no idea if the Bionic will have it.

I am almost 100% sure I am going to buy the Bionic. But I am also 99% sure it will have the Same PenTile screen that all the other Moto Droids are released with. Just my speculation / ASSumption.

I'm with CK on this. I can definitely see the difference and much prefer the SAMOLED+ on the Charge or even the Thunderbolt's screen. I know it's a personal preference, but the brightness and contrast of the colors on the SAMOLED+ are just flat out amazing to me. Admittedly, I don't own and have never owned a SAMOLED+ or pentile LCD device, so I don't know how either would effect me with daily use. So, I really can't speak on either in this sense. But, comparing both side-by-side, I much prefer the SAMOLED+ display.

Although I haven't seen for sure whether the Bionic will have a pentile display, BMX did recently tweeted that "its a shame that moto puts this damn pentile display on their devices. But htc QHD isn't all that good either ... just have to get sammy now".

I am 100% sure i will buy a Bionic granted it comes before tiered data plan.

If after tier data, then it really depends how the plan looks, if its 5GB for $30, then im 80% sure ill be getting Bionic.

If its like the plan ATT got going right now, then im 0% sure im getting bionic.

Partly, but the display size is also bigger on the Bionic versus the Atrix. So the PPI on the Bionic is lower. The Atrix and D3 would actually be better than the Bionic in this sense since they have 4-in qHD displays versus the 4.3 (or 4.5) qHD display on the Bionic.

Here's actually another reference that shows more of the pentile display.

Now you are just making things up Droid800. You obviously did NOT go beyond looking at the homescreen and a few apps.

Your comments clearly show you have not seen or used the display. If you did use it you didn't look beyond the homescreen or you simply weren't paying attention. I don't just make things up. That would be pretty ridiculous.

At any rate, even if they do use it it doesn't mean its a bad thing. Some people wont even care. Its a deal breaker for some and others could care less. That's usually the way these things are.

Make sure you carry a charger with you 24/7, or have it docked and a car charger. Maybe carry an extra battery

That's the thing i don't get and have to tell everyone all the time at my company. We have about 60 or so Droid phones (D1, X) and my supervisor and I take care of them all. People always complain about the battery life of these "smart phones" but we tell them you have to have them plugged in and charging ALWAYS. I have a docking station at work for my computer and home for my night stand, a charger for both my cars and one for my computer at home.

I agree. I have a D1 and use a Pro Clip hot cradle in the car. I have a spare battery and a 12V charger for it also. If you think your gonna use Navigation on a long trip with no charging, think again. And from what I hear the HTC Evo 4G cannot charge fast enough to keep up with Navigation usage.

Its the nature of the beast and I love it still. I keep mini USB cigarette lighter socket adapters in all my vehicles and gear bags with cables.

I sure would like to hear the numbers on how much power consumption a Pentile display saves over the others. Anyone have that data?
