Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Holy freakin' crap! If prices are anything like that, Sprint is a no-brainer for me. That will thin the phone choice herd for me. And that 4g pricing must include the 3g, too, right? That couldn't possibly be in addition to, could it? Even if the prices are wrong, if they only allow a minimum of 5 gigs for 4g as an excuse for whatever pricing they do use, I'm outta there, unless it costs the same as a data plan does now. I just don't use that much.

yes 4g includes 3g.

I can deal with 5gigs for $30, but 5gig for $50 is insane.

If i somehow miss the chance to lock into unlimited because they announce it the day they implement it, then Sprint is a no brainer.

Guys, Those are Tablet/Hotspot prices. Not phones. Look at the photo harder and read Kellex's comment.

VZW LTE pricing for phones will not be that bad. They're not that stupid.

I hope. But just like with tethering, I still don't see the reasoning for different rates if you have a limited amount of data? How is using 5gigs on a tablet or hotspot costing them anymore than using 5gigs on a smartphone?

There's no reason to believe that phone data plan pricing will be as expensive as tablet and modem plans. Verizon has to stay price-competitive with the other carriers, even with LTE.

You're thinking about it from the point of view of a common-sense ridden consumer, not a money-hungry-screw-everyone-else corporation. It doesn't cost them any more for it, it's simply a quality-of-life luxury that some find useful - others necessary - and they're going to milk you for every last penny they can.

Ok, not to derail this thread any further but:

Exclusive: Google Nexus 4G detailed - 720p display, 4G LTE, Android 4.0

If that is true (it seems like it is) and it's coming to Verizon around thanksgiving (give or take a week) then i'll be waiting for that bad boy. With my work (my boss and I support the smartphones) we stick with Motorola droid phones but i think i can convince him to wait and go with pure Android with these specs easily. All depends on how much info we get about this "Nexus 4g" and official Bionic news between the actual release date of the Bionic.

And then when Nexus 4G almost releases, youll her about Quadcore phones, the cycle doesnt end.

Well i try and not to play the cell phone catch up game too much, but i do sometimes. Thats why i dont have a Droid X2 and am waiting for the Bionic, but with a powerhouse like that running pure android it might be the thing to wait for, because most of us skipped the charge, thunderbolt and others for the Bionic, maybe wait a little longer for this one?

I also think quadcores are WAY off further than most think and even more so for the software to use them well. TI is talking about releasing another dualcore 4470 @ 1.8 soon and quadcores are coming on Jan 2012? i dont think so. If this baby is on Verizon and the Bionic's official specs aren't anything to write home about, then i'm jumping the Bionic ship to that Nexus 4g.

Bionic would have to be:

1.2 or 1.5 TI OMAP 4460
4.3/4.5 Screen
1gb DDR2 RAM or more
Newest android build
etc..

As long as my dual core phone doesn't lag, I'll be alright with settling with it than wait half a year for a quad core. Plus I'm not big on gaming on my phone, that's why there's gaming consoles for :)

The one thing that doesnt make sense to me is why would they release the phone near July 6 when thats when they are going to end the free tethering. Are they going to try and hook people into tethering? It would seem odd that they are going to release it before July 6 when thats roughly 3 weeks away and we still havent heard anything official.

I think you would see the new phone "coming soon" on Motorola. They had the old Bionic coming soon for a while before scrapping it.

I guess if you look at this way you are paying for ACCESS to the wireless network and not for a specified amount of data. The limit on the amount data consumed is a condition of that access, just like the way in which you access the network (phone vs hotspot). Accessing the network via hot spot capabilities is deemed a seperate feature from the data connectivity of your phone and therefore one subject to additional fees.

I think it sucks any way you look at it.

This will be one of AT&T's first LTE devices I bet. I would love to see it on Verizon's network but its too good of a handset to land on Verizon.

I'll go all in on this being AT&T's

What are the odds the Bionic will fail to meet expectations?

I've been loyal to Motorola for a long time and I've been interested in the Bionic since I first learned about it at CES.

That said, I really question whether Motorola currently has the ability to deliver an outstanding device. I think most would agree that the Atrix, the Laptop Dock and the Xoom have all been failures from a performance and sales perspective. Add to that the fact the original Bionic had so many issues it had to be scrapped and I start to wonder if Motorola is capable of delivering the goods.

I also question the competence of Motorola's management team. In my opinion they lied when they stated earlier this year that both the Atrix and Bionic were on track despite rumors about heat issues that would delay their release. While the Atrix was on track, the Bionic clearly was not. I also think the management team has done a horrendous job of keeping potential Bionic owners informed - their continued silence is driving loyal customers to other OEMS.

I hope the Bionic's a hit, but if I were a gambling man I'd bet against it....

The Xoom is not a failure. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Atrix? Maybe. But I think your overstating how badly they're doing.

How could they be lying if the information they had at the time supported their statements? Because that's what it boils down to. The statements they gave were accurate then. In the course of the Bionic's development, they ran into serious issues, most of which did not come to a head until it had reached the widest phase of testing.

As for the point about keeping people informed; I'm not aware of any company on the planet that keeps its potential customers informed about the development of their products. It just doesn't happen. They've said pretty much all they needed to, and that was that there is a new Bionic coming that fixes a lot of the deficiencies of the original. there's not much else to say.

No Voice plan.

I want to lose my Android vcard to the Bionic but I may settle for the Thunderbolt and ensure I get grandfathered into the unlimited data plan
