Bixby ruining main reason for getting S20 + 5G.

My S20+ 5G 512gig has replaced my Blackberry Key2. Main reason is waterproof and Android 10 features as some of my work apps don't run well under Android 8.

Waterproof is important to me as I ride my motorcycle about 50,000 km / 30,000 miles in all kinds of conditions. I have been able to keep my Key2 dry and safe but I hated having to worry about it.

On my motorcycle I have the phone connected to my Cardo Packtalk Bold (PTB) and my Garmin Zumo XT. I can say "Okay Google" on the PTB and on the Key2 it would quite properly open up the Google assistant and I could give it any voice commands I wanted and it would react accordingly

What I find it that when I do that with the S20 Bixby responds and usually does so in a useless manner. Same thing when I hit "Voice dial" on the Zumo XT (which normally gets Google Assistant) I am not talking with Google Asistant but am talking with Bixby,.

I have the side button deactivated Bixby as well as deactivated "Samsung daily:" (Or whatever it was called.)

How do I get Bixby to stop intercepting

I can still make and receive phone calls dialing thought the Zumo and read text messages, etc. Just can't connect with Google Assistant.

(Last night i was playing around with "Bixby Routines" and thought I had it setup to connect to Google Assistant but cant find what I did or recreate it.)

Please let me know what I can change to make this work.

Thanks,

Tom

There is a way to disable Bixby, and I'm sure people will chime in soon. I just wanted to say, I read this week that Google is in talks with Samsung to push google apps, including assistants over Samsung's. I think this would be a great move, as having two of a lot of apps is confusing to some people.

We would loose good lock if Samsung gave into Google.

Thanks,

Is there any risk to doing this? Can it be reversed and is it fairly easy for a relatively non-technical person to use?

Thanks,

Tom
No risk , very safe .
Download the app disable what you like, if you want to enable again just go back in and enable , very simple . I used this app for long time on my Samsung phones through the years .

I installed the app and it looks pretty straigtforward.

The FAQ says disable these apps:

How to disable bixby?
Disable the following packages:-Bixby global action,Bixby home,Bixby service,Bixby voice,Bixby dummy.

But they aren't all present. Bixby Service and Voic are there. Bixby Voice Stub has something in it with "dummy" so I disable that but there isn't a proper "Bixby Dummy" or "Bixby Global action".

Perhaps it's android version difference or S20 vs older Samsung differences.

Others that show in a search for Bixby are:

Bixby Routines
Bixby Vision
BixbyVision framework
SettingsBixby
Systen UIBixby2
Voice wake-up

Did I disable the right stuff and/ or miss something?

I disabled anything with Bixby in it and it seems to have worked. Thanks!

Still some tuning to do as when I stopped spotify with voice commands google couldn't restart it.
