Here is my story...
Got a Storm 1 during the bogo deal in 2008 so that my wife and I could both upgrade and merge our separate lines into a family plan. I was in love at first. Even on .76. You all know how that part of the story ends.
I got a Storm 2 when an exec in my company cracked his screen so he could get a Torch. (We call that engineering a failure in the biz) So for $50 I got a new acreen, replaced it myself and had an S2. The 256 memory and WiFi were huge improvements. But I think we all know how this part of the story goes.
So there I was sitting in an upgrade, waiting in the bionic and watching Craigslist. On Friday of last week I saw a post for a guy looking to TRADE A Thunderbolt for a BB curve 9330. I exchanged a few emails with him, figured he was legitimate enough to take the leap, and headed to VZW to get a free Curve as a renewal. I originally thought it would be $50 but it turns out there was a $50 rebate. I met up with the hit and made the trade. He is a film maker and HTC sent him the bolt for free. He used an ATT iPhone as his main device but wants something on VZW for coverage. The Bolt was too big to cart around with the iPhone.
So I got a free Thunderbolt. Not only that, but since I have box for the 9330 for the VZW rebate, I can send my Storm 1 back to RIM and as part if their exchange program get $60 from them.
Since my dear wife is still rocking her Storm 1, I will get her the iPhone she wants the rebate from VZW and the by back $ from RIM show up. She has the $50 waiting on her account so we'll pay about $40 for her iPhone.
So I guess I can't complain at all about RIM. In a way I am getting a Thunderbolt and a iPhone (about $500 worth of devices under contract) for $40.
And that is my tale.
