Call forwarding Issues

Ok guys,

It is an AT&T software issue. I had a Note 3 and it was working great with my Gear S. I traded my Note 3 in for an S6 Edge. The Edge worked fine with Gear S even after an AT&T software update. On Saturday (07/18/15), I traded my S6 Edge for the Note Edge. I wasn't paying any attention to the call forwarding until Monday (07/20/15) morning. I got the infamous Failed to Connect on my Gear S. I went to the AT&T store and swapped out the Gear S SIM card. We tried call forwarding and it worked even though the watch said Fail to Connect. On Tuesday, I swapped out both SIM cards. Still had the same issue. On Wednesday, I swapped out Note Edge for another Note Edge. I didn't check out what Android version was on the phone. But the call forwarding was working fine. No error message.

I decided to check to see if there was an AT&T software update. My mistake, there was a software update. I decided to download and install the AT&T software update. Now, the infamous "failed to connect" error message has appeared on the phone.

So that means,my name has been added to the list for the notification of the software update to fix this problem.

Too bad , there is not a restore point to go back to prior to this update or uninstall this AT&T update.

You probably have the wrong sim card in your Note Edge. AT&T is doing this to a lot of people. Go to your phone settings and try to forward a call to any #. If you get a sim card error then you have the wrong sim card. Go back to your store and ask for a sim card that is UICC-G or higher. The phone you have is supposed to come with a 4g card but AT&T has been sending them out with older cards especially in the big market areas. Most of the employees don't even know this or the fact that the Gear S has its own sim card. Hope this helps.

AT&T pushed a 5.0 update for the Note 4 yesterday. I took it and the phone's fine. Right afterward I got a notification that an update to Gear Manager was available. Took that too with no issue. My auto call forwarding never had a problem before and it's not having one now. If this was as widespread a problem as some are claiming the hue and cry in the forum would be much louder.

Trust me I spent 20+ hours on the phone with them trying to figure this out. Like I said go to your settings in the phone app, tap call, then more settings, then call forwarding, try to forward a call to any # preferably your home # or Gear S. If you get a sim card error message then you have the wrong sim card. AT&T by way of lollipop and the wrong sim card effectively turned off all call forwarding for a lot of Note 4 and Edge users. They know about the problem. Barry if you don't believe me then live without the call forwarding, what can I say. I'm just trying to save people some time and not have them go through what I experienced.

I'm not saying you and other's aren't having a problem. But explain why I'm not? I've had my Note 4 since early October. It has the SIM it shipped with in it (an "8"). I started on 4.X and have taken all AT&T's updates including yesterday's. I've never had a call forwarding issue. If it were some mammoth networking or s/w issue more people would be impacted. I posted instructions earlier on how to completely remove Gear Manager from your phone. If I shared your problem that would be the first thing I'd do.

You are both correct. It's not widespread but it is real.

Thank you Mark. Barry you probably have had the correct sim card from the get go. Like I said in my previous post most of the old sim cards went to the big markets because as per the rep I spoke to the big markets are the last to get all the latest perks. Make no mistake about it there are Note 4 and Note Edges that went out knowingly with old sim cards. I live in NYC hence the old card. AT&T as a company is aware of this however not all of their employees are up to speed on this or the Gear S. Most reps have no idea the Gear S even exists. If you don't believe me give customer service a call and try to trouble shoot with them. Most of them are horribly under trained in the wearables market. You said in your post that your sim card has an 8 so yes you do have the correct card since the new sim card has to be 7 or higher. Believe me Barry I tried for days and spent countless hours on the phone with customer service and this is the only thing that worked. Before the sim card I had uninstalled Gear Manager, factory reset the Gear, factory reset the phone. I even went to the Samsung store at Best Buy and had them reflash my phone. Nothing worked until I got the correct sim card. It is real and it is out there.

This was posted in the AT&T Note 4 section of another forum today...

This update fixed the call forwarding issue between my note 4 and my Gear s. Before this update, going to the phone app, then settings, then call forwarding resulted in a sim card error and wouldn't let me enable it. Now, I don't get the error.

There's a new GM update out too. For those with other model phones you probably should update GM to see if it helps.

The Note Edge price dropped, so I took my Note Edge back to Best Buy and picked up a new Note Edge with Android 4.4.4. Everything is working fine. I don't think I will update to AT&T Android 5.01

FIX?
I have 5.0.1 on AT&T and was able to solve this by disabling Enhanced LTE Services under Connection>more networks>mobile data. Then checking Call forwarding worked without the Sim error. The odd thing is that I wanted to test that it was a repeatable fix so I re-enable eLTE and call forwarding still worked. I wonder if this fix somehow set a bit that permanently fixed the problem.

The problem is not with the hardware, software or Sim card, it has to do with account settings on the AT&T network. You can take a SIM card out of the device that is working on a Note4 and put it in the Note4 that is receiving the error, and the error will go away. I did this using the display model at a AT&T store.

It is NOT an issue with the firmware, Samsung, Note4 hardware, Sim card but an issue with backend of AT&T networks and privilege settings on the account.

Flashing the Rom, updating the firmware, reinstalling the software, putting a new Sim card in will have no effect.

I spent two weeks of hell that I will never get back figuring out the problem for them. In July, I bought Note4 I got call forwarding network or SIM card error msg. Hard Factory reset did nothing. I took it into a store for a another new Note 4 with a new SIM card, same problem. Now I know that AT&T or Samsung wouldn't be selling defective phones which would put them in hot water with the FTC.

So I took the Sim card out of their store display model and put in the Note4 that was not working and the issue went away. So they made up another SIM card but this one was a secure SIM card same problem. So it has to do with something on the back end with your account settings privileges. Otherwise all Sim cards would be defective if it was a hardware, firmware or software update issue.

Disabling Enhanced LTE Services under Connection>more networks>mobile data, did not work for me. In fact, I could not uncheck Enhanced LTE Services setting that was checked. Also my call waiting was greyed out. I came from an HTC phone so it has to do with setting privilege settings on your account. AT&T is still working on it after a year. Perhaps the store Sim card had privilege settings that I did not have on my card but making new sim cards that the store used did not correct the problem.

I was told to take it to a sevice center and have them reflash the rom back to 910nu...Anie and update the both the firmware and software. I called the service center and they told me that many customers came in with this problem but this did not correct the issue.

replace note 4 with s6 imei and made sure samsung account was logged in on both phones. // TTR Succes // note 4 was not forwarding calls to gear s watch for att. THIS IS COMING FROM ATT TECH SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE. CALL ATT AND HAVE THEM PLACE A S6 IMEI THAT INCULED "VOLTE" FEATURE AND IT SHOULD WORK. I JUST FIXED THIS ISSUE TODAY.

I could not get AT&T to replace the IMEI with one fro a S6 over the phone, but I did get someone in an AT&T corporate store to do it for me and it worked!

Big thanks to kingjuice for posting that!

On Edit: I should have said that this resolved the issue with my Note Edge (AT&T 5.0.1) and Gear S.

Maybe I spoke too soon.

My call forwarding only seems to work as long as I restart my phone every day. I have tested it the last two mornings and it fails to forward until after I have restarted my phone. Frustrating, but at least I have a work around.

Sorry to say, but this is NOT the case. As I had the SAME Note 4 and took that SAME SIM out and put it into the NEW one. BAM this is when I started having the problem with forwarding. Now the ORIGINAL one I had since December of last yr is having the SAME problem. This is NOT a SIM issue. 4 SIM cards later, including the ORIGINAL SIM and still have the SAME problem now on BOTH phones.

It seems like this problem happened with BOTH phones and the SAME time. I'm guessing it has something to do with factory reset on the older one and receiving the new one with factory settings.

This is what BOTH of these phones have in common. Factory settings... Now what?! Ugh this is so frustrating.

Sim card solution worked for me. Since I got my new sim card I have not had one problem with call forwarding.

My Note Edge was updated to AT&T 5.1.1. The call forwarding is still not working correctly. I guess, I will try a new sim card tomorrow.

S6 Edge Plus with Gear S Tmobile.
I am unable to dial out from watch over mobile network meanwhile I'm connected to mobile network and able to use data on watch.

I put SIM from S6 Edge Plus in Gear S6 and mobile network is fully functional. The mobile network issue follows the SIM when inserted in S6 Edge Plus.

Tmobile already replaced Gear S SIM. Gear S SIM and S6 Edge Plus SIM contact points are physically different.

Samsung and Tmobile have not offered a solution at this time.

Please help my utilize this device!

Thanks

My issues was resolved only by adding a voice line for the gear S. Wear plan is not functional with my gear S.
