I'm new here and have searched the forums. My problem is this. A few days ago I updated my system. Then i used the task manager on my HTC amaze, killed all- which included the factory contacts icon. Now my call history and contacts are gone. My phone icon disappeared too. I had to reinstall it. Now I just need the other two back and i'll be golden. Any thoughts? I don't have a backup, and they are not in my app drawer. Thoughts? Really confused about these new fangled things.

I have the same problem. How does one reinstall the call icon and contacts?

You can't delete these, the apps are built into the firmware. Task Manager will harmlessly close them from running in the background, not delete them. I have no idea how you "reinstalled" one, perhaps you restored a shortcut to it from the apps drawer to the home screen.

Troubleshooting. First, click the "All apps" icon in the "favorites row." ensure you have "All Apps" button selected, not "Frequent" or "Downloaded." If you still don't see Phone or Contacts, something's wrong. Go to Settings | Apps, click "All" tab, and find Contacts, Dialer, Phone -- they should all be there. If you find them at the bottom marked "Disabled," someone's been messing with your phone.

If none of this works, you may need to Factory Reset with T-Mo's technical support reps' help, maybe just restart => hold the power button down until the popup appears, click Restart.

Have you read the Quick Start guide and User guide, available from the T-Mo support site? Check my topic there. ;) I'd download both manuals to your phone so you can refer to them any time.

Have you rooted and/or flashed this phone?

I just experienced this same problem. I've searched everywhere for an answer with no luck. I'm trying to avoid a full factory reset. I have an HTC Amaze running ICS 4.0.3.

The dialer and contacts just vanished into thin air, even though they are a part of the firmware and supposedly not removable. They are not in the apps list or anywhere else. I had to install another dialer app just so I would have a dial pad on the phone. Otherwise I couldn't make any calls. The new app came with a contact list and surprisingly all my contacts showed up in this new list. So my contacts are still on the phone somewhere, even though the HTC firmware has no record of them. I called T-mobile support and they were as helpful as my dead grandma.

On the bright side, I don't think we'll have to worry about the technological singularity anytime soon. Smart phones still aren't smart, so I'm sure world domination software will be in the beta phase for at least a century.
